American Black Film Festival On Tour
Posted: 2006-10-06 13:31:24
ABFF on Tour is a traveling exhibition of Black and urban-inspired independent films. Its mission is to promote the work of independent filmmakers to diverse communities while cultivating a theatrical market for independent Black cinema nationwide. Conceived as a spin-off of the American Black Film Festival (ABFF), this unprecedented tour will give general audiences the opportunity to watch quality films, typically limited to the film festival circuit, at their local movie theater.
ABFF on Tour will launch in two phases; with phase one kicking off October 2006 in Atlanta and Chicago and then expand for five additional cities by spring 2007. Markets under consideration include: Cleveland, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, New Jersey, New York, Oakland, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.
The Tour will feature highly-acclaimed films selected from the 2006 ABFF. As an enhancement to the movie going experience, select screenings will be followed by a Q&A session with the filmmaker or a cast member. The Tour will kick-off in each city with an opening night screening event.
The marketing and promotional campaign will be strategically similar to those initiated by Hollywood studios in support of major theatrical releases. It will include elements such as: radio commercials, internet advertising, in-theater advertising, direct mailings and street team promotions. As is the case with the ABFF, the Tour will also enlist the support of Black Hollywood.
