Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick ordered jailed after judge finds he violated his bondThe mayor made an unauthorized trip to Canada last month, leading the county prosecutor's office to request Kilpatrick be punished and triggering the judge's ruling. Only minutes earlier, the mayor offered an apology to the court, telling District Court Judge Ronald Giles that for seven months, "I've been living in an incredible state of pressure and scrutiny." But Giles sent the mayor to jail anyway, telling him he would have given any defendant the same treatment. "What matters to me though is how the court overall is perceived and how if it was not Kwame Kilpatrick sitting in that seat, if it was John Six-Pack sitting in that seat, what would I do? And that answer is simple," he said. Kilpatrick's attorneys immediately headed across town to circuit court where they intended to ask a judge there to release their client on appeal. "The judge did what he thought was right. We don't agree," said defense lawyer James Thomas Earlier Thursday, Kilpatrick waived his right to a preliminary examination and will head to trial on perjury and other criminal charges that could land him in prison for up to 15 years. THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below. DETROIT (AP) — A federal judge ordered Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick to jail Thursday for violating the terms of his bond in his perjury case, a decision the judge said he would have made for any "John Six-Pack" defendant before him. The mayor made an unauthorized trip to Canada last month, leading the county prosecutor's office to request Kilpatrick be punished and triggering the judge's ruling But Giles sent the mayor to jail anyway, telling him he would have given any defendant the same treatment. that would cause the prison sentence to start sooner..he is simply trying to cover his tracks right now by staying in office and hoping whenever he leaves no one can turn up some of his messes. yes, but to continue as he is now only further soils the credibility of the office of mayor. he needs to do the right thing for the people he is supposed to have served and step aside. as for the "other messes" that train has already left the station. whatever is out there yet to be discovered is being dug up by reporters now. you know the drill beat him while he's down. furthermore, everyone with a political or personal axe to grind will be offering up tidbits of info for hungry reporters to investigate as well. he has disgraced himself why take the city with him... |

Good Lawd, this thing is really a mess! I've been following this story since it broke in January, but I did not see this coming. I thought the judge was soft. Well, I stand corrected!
Kem, where are you? The perp walk came early! Edited to add: go to freep.com for lots of articles on this foolishness.
If you find yourself going through hell, KEEP GOING! |

If he were thinking of the good of the city of Detroit, and not of his own ego and selfishness, he would have resigned with 'text message-gate' first erupted. But no, he has to stay around and have himself, his family and the citizens of the city of Detroit be further humiliated. SMH..

"...ultimately, the man you are sleeping with is a direct reflection of you character..."
"Some women spend more time shopping at Nordstroms for the right thing to wear to the club, that they do trying to find a decent brother to be the father of their child..."

yes, but to continue as he is now only further soils the credibility of the office of mayor. You need to understand Detroit...the city had a mayor who had sat as a justice on the state supreme court, became president of the national bar association, and is the managing partner of one of the oldest and largest law firms in the state, and is now a candidate for governor--BUT when he was in office he was accused of acting white because he associated with business people who could put money into the city, publicly he didn't try to sound like he was from the hood--he was voted out after one term. he needs to do the right thing for the people he is supposed to have served and step aside. as for the "other messes" that train has already left the station. this guy has never cared about the city. whatever is out there yet to be discovered is being dug up by reporters now. you know the drill beat him while he's down. furthermore, everyone with a political or personal axe to grind will be offering up tidbits of info for hungry reporters to investigate as well. you are talking about his text message mess...that is all but over in terms of investigation ..this has to do with what the judge ordered him not to do..it is very cut and dry..he admits he screwed up. No one is investigating the text message mess any more. he has disgraced himself why take the city with him... |

I missed the part about his kid. What happened? he told the judge he respected the system (the one he disobeyed mind you) that he brought his son to court with him so the son could witness how it works and that it is fair or some crap along those lines. Judge in essence said, good your boy can see you walked out and to the county jail
