...and black people. He goes on to say that New Orleans will once again be a hahahahah Now that time has passed since the hurricane... we can now see who the "real" screw up down there was.. This guy should not be re-elected ... |

i heard about that if he could not take care of crime before, what makes him think he can NOW? Nagin needs to be removed from office and have a more competent person back in office I suspect that 1). with elections on the horizon this year; 2). his gaffes and misteps before, during, and after Katrina; 3). the demographics of New Orleans have changed in part due to the hurricanes; 4). there are people stepping to challenge him for the mayor's office because of 2). and 3). his comments where an attempt by Nagin to shore up his base (translation: pander to black folks in New Orleans). Rather this strategy works or not remains to be seen, considering alot of people still view Nagin in a negative light.

hahahahah Now that time has passed since the hurricane... we can now see who the "real" screw up down there was.. This guy should not be re-elected ... To be honest there were alot of other screw-ups down there besides "Mayor Bus" Ray Nagin, like Gov. Kathleen "blank stare" Blanco. And he shouldn't be re-elected, considering he's shown all the leadership of the caboose.

the darker version of Pat Roberston, huh?? Why don't folk leave the God talk alone?? The experience of going throug Katrina is reason enough to re-elect Nagin. Folk on the outside (of N.O.) are critical of the crime and poverty in N.O. The ugly side of N.O. didn't begin with Nagin--he has presided over what residents there uplifted as a way of life..and as a tourist city it has been hard to beat. There's no reason to turn him out of office. |
|
The impression I get is that Ray Nagin is a young guy with a good heart who's just overmatched by the challenge Nature has dumped in his lap -- and make no mistake, it's an enormous challenge, to rebuild an American city. In many respects, New Orleans would have presented a huge challenge without Katrina. g. |

The ugly side of N.O. didn't begin with Nagin--he has presided over what residents there uplifted as a way of life..and as a tourist city it has been hard to beat. There's no reason to turn him out of office. No one is taking him to task for the crime and poverty in New Orleans (which is an entirely other matter) they're taking him to task for the way he handled things down there in the wake of the hurricanes. I disagree for the fact that a critical component of elected office like being mayor of a big city like New Orleans is leadership and management (especially during critical times) - a component which he failed. If you recall, this is the same person who made poor choices (like using the Superdome for an emergency shelter during a category 3 storm when he was specifically told a year ago not to), blamed others for his choices (like his profanity-laced diatribe on radio asking for buses when there were a lot of school buses sitting blocks from the Superdome unused), his blatant exaggeration of lawlessness and anarchy in New Orleans (remember the murders and rapes that he said were happening in the Superdome and Convention Center that come to find out never really happened), misinformation - like the number of people who died, and allowing and encouraging evacuees to come back to the city (against the advice of Federal authorities) when it was getting ready to hit by another hurricane. And you think this guy deserves to be re-elected? In my opinion the answer is no, but then again I don't live there.

i remember and the press went inside and saw nothing like that He and the former police chief (Eddie Compass) repeated this same lie on Oprah. he also stated 20,000 dead in NO. That chrome-dome was lying like crazy to get attention Yep, I remember that too. I don't think the final numbers even reached 1000.

One of the truly distressing things to me about Katrina and those ugly false rumors being spread around about the behavior of black folks during the disaster is that, in many cases, it was black NOPD cops spreading them. I know this because I had some of those rumors told to me directly by black NOPD officers when the National Guard unit I was embedded with, 2/185 Armor Regiment, arrived in-city. Really disappointing. g. |
