The Poverty Pimp Rev. Al Sharpton is now calling for WFAN to fire radio host Don Imus. Imus, jokingly, called the Rutger's NCAA women's basketball team players "nappy-headed hos." Anyone who's ever listened to Imus knows that he insults EVERYBODY!! He insults his friends, e.g. Senators Kerry and McClain... He insults Presidents, e.g. Clinton (at the press banquet) and Bush. Message to processed-head Rev. Al!!: Imus wouldn't have KNOWN the ignorant-azzed word "ho" if it wasn't used in songs by the IGNORANT-AZZED Black minstrel rappers that you promote and defend!! A white radio shock-jock jokingly stating that "those are some rough nappy-headed ho's" is the LEAST of our problems! Getting rid of these tired "so-called" BLACK LEADERS (Rev. Al and Rev Jesse) is priority ONE! |

I'm halfway with you on this one Bway. I love Al but in this matter he should just shut up. It isn't worth the aggravation. He has bigger fish to fry in suporting those who were nearly murdered in the Sean Bell case as well as Sean's family and should use his enegy for that.
I'd listened to Imus for more years than I care to recall and the one thing I've noticed time and time again is that he very rarely if ever makes vicious fun of fellow jews but every chance he gets to make fun of a Black person he takes it and rakes them over the coals. If a Black person makes any kind of a faux paus you can believe that Imus in the Morning will be commenting on it within 24 hours and doing the best he can to make a fool out of them. I finally had enough and stopped listening to him at least a decade or more ago.
It is a big enough deal to get him to admit he was wrong and to apologize. Nothing more needs to be done, imho.
Sass
Edited to say: I wrote the above long before I found out that Imus apologized in the past and promised to stop saying nasty things about lacks but the sucka back flipped right into it again. Maybe his firing will be a wakeup call to him and everyone else who feels it's ok to demean Black women in particular. Let's remember though that Imus is an old man who was calling Blacks names long before Hip Hop was started so YES he should be held accountable.
Guys you can't do what the girls do and still be a man. Edited by SassAhFras on April 17, 2007 10:37:40 PM

Here are some more Imus comments
He called Venus and Serena Williams "animals." He called national journalist Gwen Ifill "the cleaning lady." He likening the appearance of certain black NBA players to "apes." He referred to residents of Harlem as "moolingans." He referred to the black wife of former Secretary of Defense William Cohen as a "big-haired ho. "He was forced to admit in a 1998 "60 Minutes" interview that he had hired a producer specifically to do "N " word jokes." Columnist Clarence Page once forced Imus on his own show to promise to drop the racist references. Imus has a problem keeping some promises. Bernard his co-hosts is worser than that he puts on his klu klux klan uniform and makes fun of blacks. |

There is so much PLANTATION SYNDROME in the minds of some of the posters who responded to this thread. Black people don't stick up for one another. A White man is showing another generation of White youths to disrespect your children. That means the little Black baby boy or girl that was born today. The legacy of hate and racism goes on because NOBODY will step up. It's okay because it has always been done either by Black or White people. That isn't the problem. The problem is when are YOU going to respect YOURSELF? When are YOU going to DEMAND it from others no matter WHO they are? PLANTATION SPEAK and PLANTATION SYNDROME so alive in the DNA of the African American experience, that they are TOO conditioned to fight back or to even see that they are ENABLING their own disenfranchisement and ULTIMATE demise. I feel sorry for all of the brand new baby boys and girls out there. These grown Black folks aren't going to help you one bit. They're too PROGRAMMED to accept what has ALWAYS been. So, they just drop back and join in the CHORUS.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. I Could not believe some of the stupid, ignorant and ill informed comments made here. Like it is no big deal, we should just accept it and go on. I think that must be the mentality of the newer generation. (not all) and those who have NO self respect. And to make insulting comments regarding Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson is crazy. Afterall when something does happen in the black community, who else comes to the rescue, whether it is in front of the camera or not. I sometimes wonder what the H___ is wrong with this generation of people. Just what did our ancesters fight and DIED for. United we stand and divided we fall. If we do not come to our own rescue who will. We can mingle with the other races all we want but if the boat were to come for you, You would not find them and You would scream for Al and Jessie. to intervene on your behalf. You are absolutely correct, if this is the mentality of this generation, they are only going to just pass it onto their children. With thinking like this, we cannot go forward. Won't be long before we will once again be on the sale block. |

Bway....how ya livin? I am with you on this one I am sick of these so called black leaders calling out nonsense when Jesse Jackson fathered a child out of wedlock with a young lady who worked for PUSH and was subsequently relocated to the Los Angeles office just before she had the baby so nobody would know what was going on until someone blew that wide open. If he was a real black leader he would be a better example to black men that fathering babies out of wedlock is wrong. Al Sharpton needs to give that 1970s pimp press n curl perm hairdo a rest it's tired and so are his views.
|
|
I forgot about that baby that Jesse Jackson fathered with a lady not his wife. In all fairness, I think that he supports the child, however he did that woman AND his wife dirty so it's ridiculous for him to talk about respecting women when he is so disrespectful of the women in his personal life. A baby is NEVER a mistake and the child is a blessing to her mother's life, however it's very sad that her father did what he did. And he was advising Clinton at the same time about Clinton's infidelity! As for Imus, I don't usually watch him that much and I never listen to him on the radio so I don't give a damn one way or the other what he does. Even if he loses his job with MSNBC some other network will pick him up and he will still have more money than I have and more money than any nurse who works in a hospital saving lives, and that shows just how screwed up this country is, when a person can become a multi billionaire for bloviating! And that goes for Sharpton too! Sting got it right: Poets Priests and Politicians, have words to thank for their positions, and while their eloquence escapes you, their logic ties you up and rapes you. |
|
First off Bway1ner U are way off on saying that Imus got ho from rappers, the word ho has been into play way before any rapper said it, and furthermore i've never heard a rapper directly call black women hos its always been asumed that they were talking about black women. But to sit here and make excuses for Imus is way out there, Why did he feel that saying those words about those young ladies was a joke? what was the point? there was no excuse for his statement period joking or not. Great minds talk about things Small minds talk about people!

I agree that Black people are over sensitive in this case. Why? Because listeners will make Imus pay for his Idiocy. All this apology, and fire him raging is going to do nothing IMHO because it doesn't change the heart. I can respect a person being up front and telling me he hates black folk than one who just says what he needs to say to keep his job. I'm a black man. I don't care for Sharpton or Jackson. While they have done some good I think they are political pimps. If we as black people don't understand our INDIVIDUAL ability to speak for ourselves, we're already in trouble. There was a time for "We Shall Overcome" but no more. It's time for a united black effort based on the interest of "Black People". No longer beholding to any political party but more like the Black Nationalist Party that Malcolm X was forming. We have children listening to music that degrades black women alot worse than Imus ever did. It broadcast and streams into black homes everyday. But we buy it for our kids and we dance to it???? What's wrong with this picture??? |

What a bunch of ignorant spineless morons. Like Cedric the Entertainer said, I WISH someone would make a racist comment toward me or my people in a public manner. It's one thing for someone to say it privately since it is a free country (only because we had to suffer and fight to make it that way). If it was up to everyone else, blacks would be the most disrespected and forgotten about race on the planet. We've been through Hell and back, and still prosper in more ways than most (and not just in sports, as many would love to believe: do research on some of the best inventions/cures ever made). Also keep in mind that we did all this way back since slave times, when we weren't even allowed to learn to read and write. I'm tired of everyone thinking that we should just deal with some of this sh** that public figures say about us. If we did that, we would still be slaves and servants. And so what young black men do a lot of ignorant and dumb things in their music videos and Al Sharpton had a kid out of wedlock; it is a bad, bad thing. What about Marilyn Manson? What about Bill Clinton and Monica? What about all the other presidents who had extra marital affairs? It's never a good thing, but we are humans. It's not something that just blacks do. What do you expect young blacks to think about themselves with stuff like those radio comments are still being said in public? The point is, segregation took place not even 60 years ago, and still is present in subtle ways today, and we have gained extraordinary progress in several areas of life. And to the poster saying that today's generation just accepts it: Please. We don't march passively anymore like back in the 50's. Remember what happened with the Rodney King incident? Even though we thought he was an idiot for apologizing afterward. We don't accept that sh** anymore, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. No one wants to talk about Emenim dissing him own mom on and wife on a rap album for money (I like Eminem, but your mom?) Blacks have advanced the most in the shortest period of time considered we were just slaves not that long ago. Remember, if it were'nt for us, most other races would not even be allowed to be free in the U.S. True, we have a long way to go, but damn, don't blame it on the rappers. I have the feeling that people in general are starting to get a little uncomfortable with the power Blacks have today. I would feel "threatened" too! I think there's a ton more to get off my chest, but I'm sure someone else can write it... |

I am not sure if this Imus guy is worth all the attention that has been given to him. We have so much problems to tackle I don't even know where to start and Imus in not, know where on the list. Are we getting this girliman effect now that everything so idiot says we pick up and picket? jesus have mercy on our souls...We are dieing halfway across this planet while our families are falling apart in silence here at home. Our your generation of our kids are been skillfully seperated so that the next way of economy we are again slaited for poverty. We have now accomplished everything that is in the negative and we as a race and cultures are moving away from each other in lightening speed.

I DON'T KNOW WHO MADE THESE TWO ASSHOLES LEAR=DERS OF THE BLACK COMMUNITY. BUT I HAVE NBEVER FOLLOWED EITHER ONE OF THEM. ALL THEY ARE DOING IS TAKING FOCUS OFF WHAT NEEDS TO TO DONE IN OUR COMMUNITIES. RACISIM WILL NEVER BE ERADICATED FROM SOCIETY, AND SHARPTON AND JESSE SHOULD FOCUS ON HELPING OUR PEOPLE INSTEAD OF WHAT SOME OLD FUNNY LOOKING WHITE GUY SAYS. SOON SOME OTHER FOOL WILL SAY SOMETHING JUST AS OFFENSIVE ABOUT US AND IT WILL START ALL OVER AGAIN.

A+ The rabble-rousing, race-hustler has a true footnote in most history books for, among other things, : 1. Hiring a group of perpetual protesters to march against the gocerers and record industry in NY according to taped police conversations. 2. Cruelly using a young girl to promote a racist hoax onto this nation merely to promote himself in the Tawana Brawley case. 3. Instigating and promoting the first and only anti-Jewish riot and lynching in US history in Crown Heights. 4. Unlike Cosby, never truly speaking about important and necessary topics unless they involve his own media-hungry, narcissistic self-promotion. He is a hero for those who believe that the most important thing to pay attention to is making sure that Denny's should be punished and blackmailed after serving one young couple 5 minutes later than another couple. |

First, Sass, Imus isn't Jewish. At least that's what he said only last week. Second- I heard him make fun of Jewish people numerous times. His agent is a Jewish woman and he dogs her daily, all in fun. Rev. Al's shotgun approach to civil rights is despicable. Of course, with a shotgun you might hit the target once! But, what about all the Chicken Little "The Sky Is Falling" race campaigns he and Rev. Jackson has led Blacks through? People like Al and Jesse SURVIVE by making us think that racists are waiting around every corner! They got rich by using this trick. Racists MAY be waiting around every corner! But, so are droopy-pants, uneducated, drug-selling, gun toting, Black thugs!! Let Al and Jesse walk around that corner! |
|
How ya been, 'nilla?? Maybe it's because I experienced extreme racism from whites since 5th grade that remarks like "nappy-headed" doesn't phase me. I've been called a LOT worse in my time!! The talented young sisters from Rutgers SHOULD be insulted by Imus' comment! He should have been suspended. End of story. But, "Shotgun Al and Jesse" saw a chance to get in front of a camera and they jumped! If Al and Jesse had a book to push, they would have leaped at a chance to get on the Imus Show, because they know he sold MORE books than Oprah! Al and Jesse are getting rich from their assumption that their fellow Blacks are ignorant. They count on the fact that some Black people would rather blame white racism for their own self-made problems. Al and Jesse get wealthy. Their followers get duped and dumber! |
