Baseball's Blackout(51)

That is not really strategy.  The main premise is that baseball is a very boring sport.  Once the pitcher pitches the ball, if the batter does not hit the ball, then everyone stands around, players spit, the pitcher tugs on his cap a few times, kicks the dirt, walks around the mound, then stares at the catcher and about five minutes later he is ready to pitch.  Meanwhile the fielders are standing there probbably thinking about what they are going to do after the game to keep their mind occupied.  If you ask most children today why they do not like baseball their number one answer is, "It's boring."

No, the main premise is that baseball tends to attract intellectuals.

I think the reason they think it is boring has alot to do with not having a true understanding of the game. Bo Jackson and Dion Sanders were two of the best athletes ever, and they both loved baseball. We as black males have to take the time with the kids at a young age and make sure they have an understanding of the game...................I don't think the latin players can be classified as intellectuals. Baseball doesn't want and is not going to allow African Americans to take over what they think is their sport. But we ha a plan for all that......

I think the reason they think it is boring has alot to do with not having a true understanding of the game.

Why is it that a person has to be lacking in an understanding of the game of baseball to find it boring.  There really is not much to understand.  A pitcher pitches the ball and you try to hit it.  If you are trying to move runners on base you try and swing the opposite way or if you are a pitcher in the National League batting you usually will bunt to try and move the runner.  There you go, a complete understanding of the boring game of baseball.

Baseball has endured in America for over 150 years now. Wouldn't it have died by now if it was as boring as you claim?  Remember, Americans don't like to be bored. It is now a religion in South America.  Japan too.

I wonder why so many people are adopting the game if it's so "boring."

I  must be talking to someone that has never played baseball. Baseball is life. You can hit the ball hard as hell and hit it right at someone. Baseball is the only sport that you could have one hand and still be a star(jim Abbot). Hitting a baseball is the hardest thing to do in all of sports. 1st you have to get over the fear of the ball. Well bore my sons because it is the only sport with guaranteed contracts. Go back and look at the Negro Leagues. This is our game. You have to have all the skills(if your black). Throw, run, hit, catch and most important be patient. .
baseball is the national pastime, but football is the national pasion.....the only good stories in baseball are the yankees and red sox drama.....
Intelligent commentary welcome.  Only story is Bo-Sox/NYY?  What about Bonds chasing Hank?  Ryan Howard hitting 58? Shef in Detroit?  Even the Pete Rose thing will always be interesting.
nobody knows who the heck ryan howard is....ok u right, i forgot about bonds homerun chase...but baseball is behind pro and college football in popularity......here in atlanta, the georgia bulldogs are much more popular than the braves

LOL...since when is a cultural backwater like georgia relevant?  go to cities that MATTER, like NYC and Chicago, and Yankees and Cubs DOMINATE the landscape.  Go to Boston, and the city is DIE-HARD Red-Sox.  And you're gonna tell me about Georgia Bulldogs?

LOL!!!!

You see, in America, the cities with high IQs and lots of appeal (unlike ATL) go for their baseball teams.

(and it's truly sorry to hear that you don't know the young black man who took the baseball world by storm last year by belting 58 HRS without steroids: ryan howard.)

here, educate yourself on this amazing man:

Ryan Howard was the National leauge MVP for 2006. Baseball is not marketed in the black community. If you go to the games, everyone in the stands are white. They (MLB) has done a brilliant job of getting us out of the game one and off the field. This is sad. Josh Gibson, Satchel Paige, CoolPapa Bell, and a lot others died thinking they had sparked a change.  Thanks to the end of the Negro League they now own baseball. WE NEED OUR OWN LEAGUE in something.
But Baseball fashion is marketed to the black community.  In a report I posted a while back, New Era MLB hats makes its most money off of young male African Americans.
You right about the hats. This has everything to do with the hip hop artist. I know for a fact that everyone wants to rep there city with new era. The hats are all diffrent colors and this helps cities like Boston to sell to gangs

I  must be talking to someone that has never played baseball.

Actually, I did play little league and recreation league baseball when I was growing up. It was just something to do until basketball season rolled around.

Baseball is life. You can hit the ball hard as hell and hit it right at someone.

What is so exciting about this?

Baseball is the only sport that you could have one hand and still be a star(jim Abbot).

Again what is so exciting about this?  This does not prove that the game is not boring.

Hitting a baseball is the hardest thing to do in all of sports.

Again this does not mean the game is not boring.

Usually when people discuss baseball and the lack of interest it is referring to people int he US.  Sure baseball is a very growing sport in the Latin America countries and some places overseas and most of that is due to the fact that there is not much else to do in those areas so why not play baseball.  Here in the US there are plenty more opportunities to do things and participate in.

This is how boring baseball is.  What other sport does a player have time to fix his clothes, spit, chit chat with the fans, tug on his shades, grab his crotch, stretch his arms, etc. before the next bit of action takes place?
I guess if you think of the game in that way then it would be boring. I just love the and I see the game as fun and exciting. Baseball is not for everyone, so my suggestion to you is not watch. I respect your views, but I don't agree. I will say this, if you have a kid and want him to be able to walk after sports, then baseball is the way.

Baseball is not for everyone, so my suggestion to you is not watch.

I do not watch.

I respect your views, but I don't agree.

Ok and we can agree to disagree.  While you are watching a baseball game you can get caught up on alot of paperwork for home, work, etc.  There is enough time to do that between pitches.

I will say this, if you have a kid and want him to be able to walk after sports, then baseball is the way.

Baseball is not the only sport where a person is able to walk after their playing days are over.  My son tried baseball one year and he did not like it so we told him he does not have to play it.  He plays basketball, tennis, and is taking drum lessons.  He does not need baseball.

No, he doesn't need baseball.  And baseball doesn't need your son's mediocre talent.  So it's a mutual, well-befitting relationship.

Let us move on.

Your right, he shouldn't play if he's not going to give his all. But we as blacks don't need people discouraging the ones that do want to play. We are trying to rebuild the game, and we don't need blacks(if your black) talking negative about something they have no idea what they are talking about. So do us a favor and shut up about baseball..........

Yeah, no kidding.  I find the NBA unbelievably boring and uninteresting, but I don't bombard NBA threads with derisive rhetoric.
