There is not a single black mention on Barack Obama's "short list" to fill the Supreme Court seat that is being vacated by Justice Souter. However, there are two Hispanics (Sotomayor and Carlos Moreno), and four White women (Elena Kagan, Diane Wood, Janet Napolitano, and Jennifer Granholm).
Actually, all of the above mentioned would make excellent justices. All are liberal-progressives. However, I find it hard to believe that the Obama administration could not find at least one qualified black person to put on the short list. In fact, I find it to be insulting to the black American community. It is further indications of Obama's callous disregard toward the blacks. (Exhibit one: His senior cabinet picks -- 3 Asian Americans, 2 Hispanic American, 2 Republicans, only 1 black American, and all others are White.)
On November 4, 2008 black Americans went to the polls in historic numbers, forming mile long lines, to help elect the first "African-American" president. In the Democratic Party primaries, where blacks represents 37% of the party's base (88% of registered blacks are Democrats), they deserted Hillary Clinton in favor of the first viable "African American" candidate, ignoring the long history of the Clinton's contribution to the black community.
Obama's economic policies benefits mostly rich White folks, with the expectation that eventually it will trickle down to black folks. What significant differences have the Obama administration made in the life of black Americans? Pride in the fact that one of their own (Michelle Obama) is in the White House? What else is there, and is that enough to satisfy most black Americans?

The Obama Administration is already the most culturally diverse in American History... and in case you forgot, PRESIDENT Obama IS Black. In addition, within his Cabinet, his Attorney General is a Black man... his Senior White House Adviser is a Black woman... his U.N. Ambassador is a Black woman... his EPA Administrator is a Black woman... and numerous positions within the Executive Office are held by Blacks as well as other minorities.
So... how is his not "finding" a Black Supreme Court nominee an "insult" to Black people?! It seems that YOU are just fishing for the "least UNcommon denominator" to cause divisiveness among Obama supporters, and more notably to manipulate the sensibilities of Black people in general. Typical AND Tired.
Sorry... but the simple-minded game you and those like you continue to play has played out. Because it doesn't matter whether a Supreme Court nominee is Black, White, Latino, Asian, or of any other culture. What matters is that the nominee is qualified, reflects the consciousness of THE PEOPLE and understands and considers THEIR diverse views and beliefs. Clarance Thomas is "Black"... but his views and opinions does NOT represent the views of the VAST majority of Black people and he himself doesn't even identify with the Black populace in general.
People like you think of Blackness in simplistic terms to promote even simpler conclusions. To you, it's just about a skin color and YOUR myopic perceptions... but to many of "US", it's the ESSENCE of who we are and HOW we've endured. BLACK is more than a "race", it's a state of mind that develops because of a dedication and committment to be responsible and accountable for OUR community and Our people.
So you can take those weak observations and conclusions of yours to a blog site where the "BLACK I.Q." is MUCH lower or non-exisitent. Because that's the ONLY place you'll be able to get away with espousing your elementary perceptions of Blackness just to promote your UNDER-developed "Black POV". Because it won't work here... not as long as I'm around anyway.

"The American half of him is white” may be the single most myopic statement about culture and race I’ve ever read on this site. 1st of all, since he was BORN in Hawaii, it makes ALL of him “American” by CONSTITUTIONAL LAW. 2nd, HE identifies himself as BLACK because of how WHITE America perceived and reacted to him CULTURALLY and SOCIALLY and how he has HAD TO "adjust" to THEN "ascend beyond" those perceptions as a man who simply "looks Black" in America. 3rd, his “black-white” bi-racialism is purely “biological”, NOT cultural or sociological, and other than the FACT that he is a NATURAL BORN AMERICAN, it’s the ONLY thing he had no control over. 4th, His MULTI-CULTURAL background consists mainly of Indonesian and American since “Africa” is NOT a homogenous “country”, it is a CONTINENT with countries of different cultures within it and Obama has never had to “assimilate” into Kenyan culture as he had to do in Indonesia and in America as a BLACK man “on site”, and it was the latter that made HIM want to identify HIMself as an African-American BLACK man, NOT a "bi-racial African-American", which is clearly stated in his book "The Audacity of Hope"…
... and again, BEING BLACK is more than a color or race, it’s a STATE OF MIND ATTAINED THROUGH THE COLONIZATION AND SOCIOLOGICAL EVOLUTION BY BEING PERSONS OF COLOR OF AFRICAN DESCENT IN AMERICA… and your retort proves beyond ANY doubt that this is WAY too deep for YOU to understand.
The "smooth talking con man" conclusion you came to is typical divisive rhetoric stemming from a single and VERY "simple" purpose... cause dissention by pointing out the LEAST common demoninators of Obama's presidency. And like I told you before, it WON'T work and Black people who KNOW the REAL deal are not and will not be insulted by the choosing of a non-Black Supreme Court justice. That's just YOUR sick fantasy that you contemptuously "hope" comes true.
I worked with the Obama Campaign last year but Robert Gibbs is certainly not my boss. Because I, unlike him and probably you, am MY OWN man with MY OWN business. MY boss is ME and I wouldn't have it any other way.

If Barack Hussein Obama, Sr. had met a White Canadian woman in Hawaii and fathered a child with her, would that child be African American, African Canadian, Kenya American, or Kenya Canadian. Contrary to Obama's contentions in his best selling books, he is not "culturally" black American. (I refer you to Reverend Jeremiah Wright, Reverend Jesse Jackson, Bobby Rush, Roland Burris, and Louis Farrakhan on that issue.)
Call Obama what ever you like. Let's say that he is Black, born, raised, and had the same experiences as the majority of black Americans. Would he have been elected president if he was as dark-skinned as Wesley Snipes or Michelle Obama? Answer truthfully.
All that aside, please answer the following question:
Specifically, and quantitatively, how has the Obama presidency made a bigger difference in black American lives than other Democratic presidents -- FDR, HST, JFK, LBJ, and WJC?

Answer truthfully.NO.
Specifically, and quantitatively, how has the Obama presidency made a bigger difference in black American lives than other Democratic presidents -- FDR, HST, JFK, LBJ, and WJC? So far, No. I feel he will help out Latins and illegals faster than helping black people. To me, he has not shown anything which demonstrates any real leadership. he has pelosi and Reed running court on him and says nothing but goes along with the extreme lib agenda. Most Black folks are not liberal but go along with ther agenda expecting handouts to keep going |

Columnist Ruben Navarette, Jr. SAN DIEGO, California (CNN) -- Things really have changed with the Obama presidency -- starting with the process for nominating a Supreme Court justice...... Now that Obama is president and controls the nominating process, things are different. This week, the White House put special interest groups on notice that this is the president's choice alone and they needn't bother putting forth their preferred candidates. The jab was clearly aimed at the left, where feminist groups are calling for the nomination of a woman, Latino groups want a Latino and the Congressional Black Caucus had the chutzpah to push one of its own members: Rep. Bobby Scott, D-Virginia...... In news reports this week, White House sources confirmed some names of candidates: Federal appeals court judges Sonia Sotomayor and Diane Wood, Solicitor General Elena Kagan, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm and California Supreme Court Justice Carlos Moreno. You'll notice there are no white men (or Blacks) on that list. But rest easy. There are already six of them on the Supreme Court......
By arguing that the job should simply go to the "most qualified" candidate, they assume that there is some objective standard by which a president decides on the "most qualified," as if you put all available information into this giant computer at 1600 Pennsylvania and out pops a name. And by framing the choice as being between merit and diversity, they also assume that the "most qualified" is never a woman or minority. Which brings us to the catch-22 that women and minorities can't shake. Not long ago, only white males were deemed "qualified" to attend law school. That was even truer at the elite schools that act as farm clubs for the high court. Eventually, society recognized the inequity and took "affirmative action" to correct it, allowing colleges and universities -- including law schools -- to take account of race and gender as one factor among many in admissions. That's beautiful. Before affirmative action, women and minorities couldn't get jobs because they were thought to be inferior to white males. After affirmative action came along, they shouldn't get jobs because they're suspect. Sorry. The game is rigged. Same as it ever was. At least the reader was honest. "In fact," he wrote, "some of the judges on the court now were not qualified when they were appointed and some of them are white." Exactly. The unqualified come in all colors, races, ethnicities and backgrounds, as do the qualified. By the way, some pundits are saying the odds are good that a Latino will get the nod. I hope I'm wrong, but I predict Latinos will be shut out again. Then the administration will expect to get credit for at least including a couple of token Latino names on the short list. After all, I suspect, that was the whole point of including them. Despite promising to expand opportunity and giving lip service to their concerns, the Democratic Party (and Obama) still takes Latinos (and Blacks) for granted. That much hasn't changed. |

Most Black folks are not liberal but go along with ther agenda expecting handouts to keep going KLTLUVRLT1:
Sonia Sotomayor? What's with that?
On the surface she sounds like a great pick -- humble beginnings, defying the odds, ethnic minority, gender etc. However, I find it inconceivable and inexcusable that Barack Obama, our first African American president, could not find at least one highly qualified black American to fill the USSC vacancy.
As my grandson might say, "That's messed up."
Is Obama taking the black community for granted. Damn straight he is. He got 93% of the black American votes in the Democratic primaries. A great number of blacks deserted Hillary's campaign to support him, for no other reason than the fact he was "African" American. Many blacks had never before heard of him. And, if 15% of blacks had voted for Hillary in the Democratic primaries, she would have won the nomination.
Hillary won the Hispanic votes in the primaries. Hispanics did not jump on the Obama bandwagon until the general election, in his contest with Republican John McCain.
The only black person on the USSC is CLARENCE THOMAS. Is it Obama's argument that blacks are already represented on the court, and it's time now to appoint an Hispanic? Someone should remind our first "African" American president that Clarence Thomas IS NOT representative of the black community. He is an Uncle Tom led around on a leach by Antonin Scalia.
I am firmly convinced that at this day in time any other Democratic president would have appointed a black female to fill the USSC vacancy. So why is our first "African" American president telling black American lawyers and jurists to go to the back of the bus?
