Boycott Imus(122)

Here we go again, another white man who thinks he can say what he wants whenever he wants. Here we go again, black folks not realizing and using the power we have.

Marching and protest in front of the radio studio is not enough. We need and should target the show's sponsors. That will force him to resign.

I have a personal network, that includes email addresses, in the San Francisco Bay Area, of several hundred people. We are ready to move against Imus.

There is no debate on this. Spread the word.

That's alright.  You go on ahead and do your thang.  I'm gonna be munchin' on some steak and shrimps.  Ya dig?
I do not understand what the fuss is all about.  I never have and never will listen to the Don Imus Show. I detest him.  Who were the ignorant blacks that actually listened to the BS that racist SOB ever spouts?  As far as I am concerned this is America, he is free to express his racist comments, who gives a rat's behind?  By making a big thing out of his rude racist remarks, you blacks are giving this wizened old skinhead too much power.  Racism is alive and well folks, you just have to learn to deal with it. That is why I get really angry at black folks who get on this forum or any other forum and criticize Farrakan.

You don't get it and I don't think you ever will. That wonderful woman whose photo you use understands it. I met her once ( Angela). I never understood why she did not  exploited her fame when she had a chance to. She could have, but she chose the path of obscurity. It's about POWER, Sista. It's about respect. I suppose you nappy headed coons will never understand that. (I'm joking of course) Ha, ha, ha.

The critical issue is not Imus's statement, but that he felt safe to say it. What is needed in this writer's opinion is that we as Afro-americans should use this as a focus point for our own organizing efforts among our National Community. We have no representative national organization that can define, develop or defend our interests on a national level. We need an Afro-american National Congress that institutes a National Black Agenda that represents the collective interests of black folk nation-wide. Why divert our energies trying to get Imus fired, when all he has to do is go to Satellite, like Howard Stern, where he will have an even wider audience.
What we need are national formations that make those of his ilk feel unsafe to make public statements such as this, which they make at home every day. It also points to the need for formations of Black Panther, FOI (Fruit of Islam), and Simba Wachanga (Young Lions) formations to be in every major city in the country, who should be at his office door the next morning. But these types of formations must be under the direction and control of a National Congress, which itself receives its policy directives from a nationally endowed Council of Elders. The time for demonstrations and marching is over. We should have learned this from Katrina. The CALL NOW, IS TO ORGANIZE, ORGANIZE, ORGANIZE!!!!!!

Unitl those of us who also make deragotry comments about black folks stop making deragotry comments about black  folks we cant complain too much. Entertainers constantly use words like whoes and bitches when referring to black women. Even some black women refer to each other as bitch. I rarely watch or listen to rap and Black stand up comics because they feed streotyoes that misrepresent black people. The sterotypes that people fought against are now comodified by some of us, and healthy profits are being made as a result. This does not excuse Imus at all, but we have some household stuff we need to deal with.

And what is the percentage of black people who actually listen to Imus in the Morning? LOL. Boycotts are only effective when those you boycott against have benefited from your group. And this is not one those cases.

I pretty much agree with what you say because had that same statement been made by a black man nothing would have been said and like you said this is america where you're supposed to be able to say what you want.
You are probably right and that does not speak well for us as a people. That does not mean that as a black man I have to like what Imus said because I don't.
I'm not saying that you have to like what he said but my god they are only words my grandma used to tell me sticks andstones may break my bones but words will never hurt you but I guess in some cases it does I just know that people say things about one another sometimes not realizing that what they are saying could be hurtful to someone else.
I agree with you both, when the time come for black women to join  together and first put a stop to all the people in music and television industry not just the artists but the owners for allowing us to be labeled as whores and bitches.  This all started when gansta rap to a turn NWA.. That's when it all started and that's when it should've ended.  We don't say anything because we feel well that's not me they are talking about and you know what  it's not but when a race of women are constantly being called that by her own brother that's really messed up if I have to say.  We are taught to support our brothers but how can we when they think of us as whores.  Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and these other political figures need to first clean up home first, everytime I turn around Al Sharpton is at some Russell Simmons HIP HOP Summitt and nothing is being accomplished, our sisters are being battered, raped and ridiculed across America and nothing is being done.  Yea what Imus said was wrong but what about Fifty Cent, Camron, Lil Wayne and all these other rappers out there who are constantly saying the same thing about us.  I am more upset with these black men than Imus, he's just saying what we allowed these black men to say to us constantly.  If we are going to protest go all the way.  How can a woman dance in a video when the lyrics are calling her a whore what do one expect and they consider this art or freedom of speech. What get's me is these young men say well this is what I grew up around.  Well I am 42  years old and I lived in Coney Island, Bushwick now Jamaica Queens and I never been around prostitues or drug dealers don't get me wrong they ARE around but I never was around them.  It's what you want out of your life.  As a mother I would be angry to hear my son call a woman out her name I think I would slap the mess out of him and I don't care if he's 22 years old.
Yes this is America and racisism will be here until the return of Jesus Christ, and we as Americans are free to say whatever, however being that this is America there is a need for folks to stand up and protest, because if no one ever stood up for what ofended them, black people would still probably be riding in the back seat of a bus or even picking cotton in a field or better yet in slavery.  So therefore there is a need to stand for what one believes.  Who knows how the world would be if everything goes.  Living in a free country that is full of many priviledges does not mean that one can go around publicly offending others.
Granted, but these were more than just mere words they were racist and meant to inflict pain. If it were as simple as some blacks and some Whites have made it out to be then he would have referred to the Tennessee team with the same degree of disrespect and nastiness. Let me ask you this if you have children how would you feel if your daughter's teacher called her a nappy headed hoe?

NOTHING SURPRISES ME ABOUT THIS SO CALLED CLOSET RACIST. HE IS THE TYPE THAT WILL SHAKE YOUR HAND AND SMILE IN YOUR FACE, BUT BE THE FIRST TO COME BACK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT AND STRING YOU UP HIGH. THESE PEOPLE MAKE ME SICK, THEY WILL NEVER CHANGE THEY ARE BORN LIKE THAT.

what can I say except that you are right and that gangsta rap is really something I think the world could have done without I always tell my 19 year old son that ,that ain't no music I think anybody can record some cuss words and proably make a big hit
its a shame that in the year 2007 this is still happening.  i am a 50m yr old women have been through the 1960 with the racist remarks then in the 1970 it got a little better. i lived in new york city.  i live in maryland now and the problem is worst here.  i have had to sit by and watch the racial profiling.  now this i am so tired of these racist coming out the closet every other year.  first michael richards now this.  i am so sorry for the young ladies that this affects.  get your education and show people like this that as a black race we will and have arrived and will keep moving on up.  pinkey
I do have children as a matter of fact I have a daughter and yes I proably would have been a little upset but I don't think I would have been outraged by it there are more important things in this world to be upset about and calling someone a nappyheaded ho ain't one of them, because you brothers do it all the time if we ain't bitches,we ho's so why get bent out of shape when a white man does it.,thats all I'm saying It's like the pot calling the kettle black.

Here we go again, another white man who thinks he can say what he wants whenever he wants. Here we go again, black folks not realizing and using the power we have.

Personally, I believe it's a waste of time, but if you insist on forming yet another protest to protest not being welcomed to their party, the thing to do is;

1) Identify Imus's corporate sponsors

2) Write and campaign against the show's sponsors I.E. IBM, Ford, IGA, etc.

3) Once sponsors withdraw, the network will happily deal with Imus, and it will not be as easy for him to find a new home.

In the meantime, I suggest those who are enlightened attempt to pass on this knowledge to those that are misguided and would cut off their right arm to be called an american, and find acceptance in their slave massas. If not, they'll exhaust themsleves in chasing the millions of Imus's in the country that merely vocalize what the majority of white america is thinking.

Bunny please go to the general boards and read my latest post and tell me what you think. I will address your point(s) in detail because I value what you have to say. Please do this!!!!! I am leaving for the gym and will post you when I return.

I have to echo your view I have a 7 year old who after watching a Wyanne Brother movie and watching "so called black" rap movies while spending the night at his cousin house made the statment to my wife and I that "black people are bad". How can we expect any better from others of the human race. I teach the young people who work for me never to let any one impower them self over you by making you respond negativly to there ignorance however I would have no problem supporting a boycott of the Imus sponsors if I listened to his show.
