good morning I just did a search. The hotel rooms are pretty much all booked up, many folks booked even before he won. The tickets to the events range from about 500 dollars up. If every person that Ive read or seen goes as planned......its going to be way too crowded to realistically witness the ceremony you will pretty much be in a detached group of people getting emotional over the moment like you probably were Tuesday night. Picture the million man march....then multiply it 8 or 9 times. Im going because I know all my friends will be there *LOL*...I have no disillusions that Im going to get anywhere close to the new President. Im still hoping I have enough clout with folks I knew during the Clinton years to be invited to a White House tour.

I was working in a hotel in the heart of Georgetown when Bush's 2nd inauguration happened and as unpopular as he was, things were cuhrazy in the whole DC.  Talk about things coming to a stand still.

If you can just imagine the pandemonium that will ensue for Obama's inauguration.  First security is going to be off the hook!  Then forget about driving anywhere outside of town cars and limos.  And you want to go out to eat......good luck!

There's going to be a whole lotta money that will be made that weekend/week.  If I had a town/luxury car, I swear I'd take off from work, book myself out as a driver, and make about 5 times my monthly pay in that short period of time.

Thanks for the info:) I have a few cusins that live in Maryland so lodging isn't a problem.  That $500 a ticket will be tough but for this I will just have to make the sacrifice.  Right now I think 4 or 5 of us are going and the numbers seem to grow every five minutes. LOL

This is the first time that I have been truly excited and proud to be an american.  So I can't wait to it becomes official. I just want to be part of history. *Just grinnin like a fool*

Thanks again

I know a bunch of people that are going.  Already booked and paid for everything.  I'm still undecided about accompanying mainly because of what Fig & Mojo said.  I'm no good in ridiculous crowds lol.
We've booked a hotel room in Virginia, which is less than an hour's drive away from where the inaugural will be held. Doubt we will actually be able to see it sans viewing it on TV, teleprompter. But we expect to enjoy being near this most special event in history.
See a couple of my friends did that too, but I'm soo worried you'll miss the whole thing in traffic.  DC traffic isn't pleasant on the best of days.... i can't even imagine for this.

We too have friends & family ( a bunch of them) in the area & they are planning to try to get as close to it as they can & we are considering actually going (which is big for us w/ Lil LJx being here & our family stuff that keeps us busy & makes us cancel most of our BIG trips) & staying w/ Ten's best friend for that event.

Just trying to make it a friends & family thing.

I'm kinna getting excited & I so rarely do that.

We have pretty much factored in the monstrous travel times. Heck, we figure if it get real crazy we'll just have fun eating, drinking, singing and celebrating in our minivan.

My sister-in-law and niece are Howard grads. They know the area and still scads of contacts and connections in DC proper. So like you, we're figuring to do okay there, even if we're not able to directly witness the inaugural.

We're really looking forward to making it a very nice and inspiring friends & family thing as well.

Yep, that's most late-bookers best bet......book in MD or VA and metro it in, b/c traffice in ALL directions leading into DC will be outta control.  Metro will be crowded too but at least you're not trying to maneuver with a vehicle.

For whoever might be interested:

Cities closest DC accessible by metro:

Maryland: Riverdale, Hyattsville, Landover, Lanham, Fort Washington, Seat Pleasant, Upper Marlboro (certain parts), College Park, Greenbelt, I'll post more as I think of them.

VA (I'm less familiar with): Arlington, Alexandria, Manassas, Crystal City, Annandale, I'll post more as I think of them.

I'm not good with crowds either.LOL  But for this I will make the exception. Just askin cause I don't know.  When you say you booked and paid for everything what are you talkin about.  The Tickets for the inauguration and if so how much did they cost?

Sorry I'm being nosey I just want to be there so badly I want to make sure I take care of what ever I have to as soon as possible.

Thanks

Well I'm in NC so even if I make it a day trip thats fine but I'll probably just crash at a family members house.

Even if I don't get up close just being there will be enough for me.  So I totally agree with you on that point.

I pretty much let my sister-in-law handle the travel arrangements, seeing as she familiar with the area and she's sort of travel whiz. I expect we will have as good time as is possible given the enormity of the circumstances.

But thanks for posting the info. I might really help foks who review this thread!

Lucky you!  I would be almost discouraged by how to get reasonable accomodations for this event if I lived out of state.

I hope it does help........I'm so excited about this whole thing!!!
