NOVEMBER IS LUNG CANCER AWARENESS WEEK

CONGRATULATIONS ON DROP-KICKING THIS FILTHY HABIT!   (YOUR LUNGS WILL LOVE YOU FOR IT!!)

...NOW, HOW IN THE HECK DID YOU DO IT?  (how hard was it, really?)

**what advice do you have for anybody who also wants to be a quitter???***

I was more or less scared into quitting.  Although I had been trying to quit for years, or at least intending to quit, I never did.  In February I had a mamogram.  Then my doctor told me he wanted me to go have an ultra-sound because I had lumps.  Now that scared me so bad that  took my whole pack of cigarettes that I had just bought, and threw them away.  Broke them up in little bitty pieces so I would not be tempted to go back and get them.  That was in February of this year.  I have not had a smoke since.  I don't even have the urge to smoke.  That did it for me.  Now I have actually smoked since I was sneaking at 16, and today I am _____.  Well, that is a long time.  I can look at other people smoking and it doesn't even bother me.  Only now I find myself not liking the smell of smoke.  Oh and by the way, my ultra sound was negative, so I am fine.  So its like I got a new lease on life.  I am not putting anything in my body or defiling this temple ever again.  I feel so much better.  I can even breathe better.  There are a lot of things I enjoy better,  now that I have given up the cigarettes.  But the down side is the weight gain.  Lord, that is an uphill battle.  But one I will win.  If I can give up the cigarettes, I can get a grip on the weight too.

4yrs without never had a desire to pick up again.

Much props to you!!!!! I'm trying to stop myself.  Set the quit date for my birthday which is coming up very soon.  My present to ME!  I've been smoking for almost 30 years and I can't expect my good luck to hold out forever.  Besides, I have a history of cancer in my family-BOTH SIDES.  I've tried a couple of times- once stopped for almost 2 years, but now I REALLY WANT to give this awful habit up FORVER!!!! I can't use the patch or gum (HBP), so I'm going hypnosis.  A friend of mine did it over 12 years ago and hasn't smoked since.

GOOD LUCK TO ANYONE WHO WANTS TO STOP!  I WISH YOU THE BEST!!!!!!!!!

Trying to quit smoking was a very bad habit that i could not handle on my own. I would stop for one, or two weeks. Then when I got stressed out I would run to the store and buy a pack. I finally got restless, and I called upon the name of the Lord, and I have been freed from the smoking demon. Jesus is our doctor, whatever you are struggling with he will help just have faith.    GOD BLESS ALL.

Hey,

Actually, many factors contributed to my quitting smoking.  A great factor was fear.  My sister and I both have asthma.  She is a non-smoker and had to get a tube down her throat after a severe asthma attack.  I was a smoker, and had never been "tubed".  I was scared, but not scared enough. I continued to smoke.  Then I got sick with a respitory infection and was unable to smoke.  When the infection totally cleared up a month later, I had no desire to smoke.  It's been a little over 3 years.  Everything happens in its own time, quitting smoking included.

I can't possibly give a reason why I started smoking in the first place!!!!   My mom smoked, my dad smoked (but he moved out years before I started) & my best friend smoked!!!   My mom actually died from hypertention.   I started smoking when I was 14, real smart choice!!!  Was the stupidest choice I could have made for my life.   I don't think I did it for popularity (only one of my friends smoked & I didn't even see her that often).   All my friends who didn't smoke, looked down on me for smoking.   My mom quit afterwhile & I smoked till I was 21.

I made the choice to quit because my sister and brother in-law was moving in and they are asthmatic, also they wanted to have a baby.   I had to quit, also smoking was slowing me down & it made me smell bad, was messing with my lungs, had me coughing like crazy and the last straw was when I started spitting up food from the coughing!   I finally said no more!!!!   I had a small cigarette left, smoked that May 2, 2001... THAT WAS MY LAST CIGARETTE!   I never went back!   I don't even want to go back, smoking is a HUGE turn off for me now!  I can't stand the smell or even the sight of a cigarette!   Thank God, I think this might have saved my life!

I commend everyone who has quit smoking!   And I wish the absolute best to those who are trying to quit this second!   DONOT GIVE UP!!!!!!
You can do it. You must first program the primary computer, the brain. If you really want to quite prepare for a challenge. I used the patch. I was a pack a day smoker. I started smoking when I was thirteen and quit when I was fifty five. It's been eleven years. I still have flash back, dreams that seem so real I wake up angry with myself because I thought I'd started smoking again. The patch is a six week program. You get fourteen patches to start with then go back for fourteen more and so on until six weeks are used. I really wanted to quit and only used thirteen patches. As I said in the beginning, you must first really want to quit. Take a large helping of determination and go for it. GOOD LUCK...I hope hypnosis is the answer

i quit in july 1997, and been cig-free ever since!

congrats to anyone that is thinking of quitting, you can certainly do it. i will be HARD work, but it can be done. i quit cold turkey, and it was soooo hard!! i couldn't afford the patch or gum since i was a poor college student, so i prayed first and asked God to fight it for me, and i admitted that i was too weak to do it on my own. then i washed all of my clothing and bed linens, and cleaned out my car and car ashtray. being that i still lived with a smoker (my roommate), it was doubly hard for me....she wasn't trying to make my journey any easier. she smoked around me constantly....in some ways, i believe she was trying to get me to fail....but i hung in there anyway. we also have a lot of friends that smoke too, and they were over at my place all of the time. i would sometimes lock myself in my room away from the smokers to allow the cravings to pass, then i'd return to my company. i also drank a lot of water and chewed a lot of bubble gum. my biggest fear was weight gain.....AND YOU WILL GAIN WEIGHT!.....but you can lose it too, i lost my extra pounds.

hang in there, it can be done! :)

I quit smoking by going "cold turkey."  Like you and everyone else, I tried to quit many times and sometimes I just didn't want to quit.  One time I quit for a few months because I was pregnant.  Then I had an abortion and went back to smoking.  The day that I decided to quit was when I realized that I was getting ready to smoke a second pack in one day.  I thought that was a bit much and I said "this is it!"  "I quit!"  And I smoked the last cigarette that I had in that pack and haven't smoked since then.  That was January 16th, 1993.  I also can't stand the smell of smoke and really do not understand how my very good friends and family had put up with my smoking in their homes.  Just like you, I have no intention of ever smoking again.  It's a nasty habit.  Some people have asked me how could I just stop it just like that.  The thing is that you must "want" to quit.  Yes, there will be times you will want that cigarette out of habit or stress.  But when you start to think how clean you smell, breath smells a lot better and folks don't mind being around you, you start to think twice before you light up.  But above all, you have got to "want" to "stop" smoking.  You've got to want it like a thirsty person needs water.

I went through hynosis four months ago.  That junk really work.  I didn't take any of the supplements that they offered because of HBP.     I went to Gorayeb Seminars in July.  Haven't wanted a smoke since.
GOOD LUCK!
I started smoking at 19, and by 23 I quit. I was beginning to pack on the pounds, and my heart couldn't take it anymore.

This is a true story. I had smoked since I was 16 yrs old. I would stop then start back again. Feb. 2004. I went to bed one night,  as usual I would have my ashtray on the nightstand along with my cigarette case. I got into bed and lit up. I was watching something on T.V. I don't remember what anyway, I began to smoke and, that cigarette tasted  awful, I mean it was awful, so I put it out. I turned the tV off. My half smoked cigarette and lighter lay on the nightstand. I woke up about two a.m. gagging my throat was on fire, I tasted fire inside my throat.. I ran to the b athroom and leaned over the sink and began splashing water in my mouth. This went on about two or three minutes. I came back to the bedroom and sat on side of the bed to collect my thoughts. I looked over at the ashtray ,the half smoked  cigarette and lighter was gone.I was like what is going on I know I put that cigarette in the ashtray and lighter on the night stand. By now I'm spooked out of my mine. I laid back in bed starring up at the ceiling until I fell asleep again. When I woke up. the desire to smoke was gone.  Haven't had one since. In a way I'm kinda scared to. GOD IS GOOD

Quite simple!!  Don't buy em and don't bum em from folks!!  When you get the urge to have one (and you will), just ignore it for 20-30 seconds and it will pass.  It will come back, but just keep ignoring it and sooner than you ever realized, it won't be an issue.  Also, try to look at it by keeping this thought in mind: "How am I going to allow a stick of tobacco to control me and make me do what I don't want to do, no way"!!!!  You may get weak in a moment of crisis, but you can do it if you want without any foolish patch or chewing gum.  You'll just get hooked on some chemical patch and chemical chewing gum!

Peace Out!!

I smoked from 13 to 19.  I quit by chewing gum.  It wasn't really that hard for me to quit. I really only did it to see if I could really accomplish something with willpower, not to actually quit the smoking itself.  I still smoke from time to time, but when I do I smoke clove.  But it's not something I crave.  I usually do it out of boredom.  I enjoy it.  As a smoker friend of mine used to say "well then bring on the cancer," LOL.

Pick a day and stay with . one day at time.

I quit on Oct. 16, 1995, at the Million Man March. God took the tatse for cigarrettes right out of my mouth that day.
