She's been in the game for over a decade and she has definitely seen and been thru her share of adversity but to look at her now, she is lovely.  No more tight clothing or hip-hop look but she looks like more of a DIVA, the DIVA that they declared her as several years ago.  Her new album establishes her as that DIVA as she holds the crown.

Mary has matured and deserves the queen title, if not just for still standing tall in such a devious industry. She has a Testimony on BV about her past drug problems: http://blackvoices.aol.com/black_lifestyle/soul_spirit_headlines_features/testimony?id=20051216134509990002

Mary I'm rooting for you!

I think she has matured with age. She has been through a lot of stuff and I am so happy for her. Her new cd is good.

big ups to Mary for being strong enough to change when it would have clearly been easer to live the distructive life that would have lead her to a very unhappy and unhealthy place.

i love mary she's the bomb i ride with her if she sad or if shes happy its unconditional. Its crazy how wen she dresses like we the ghetto, inner city folk wateva they call it dresses its considered bad. Aint nothin wrong with gowns and hollywood shyt but aint nothin wrong wit the way the old mary dressed either
it all depends on what you do in your life the way you dress. if you want attention you can dress a lot of differant ways but if you want attention and respect you would dress the way you want people to respect you.

Ones profession has a lot to do with how you dress also, Mary is an entertainer and entertainers do and should dress different than ordinary people with ordinary jobs.

I love Mary and I love her style. Her personality is edgy (which i like about her) and a little hood (even though she's slowly becoming less hood) which is why the way she dresses fits her totally!

Her new cd is all that to me. It is mainly slow songs, but I'm 28 and thats where I'm at right now with the music so I'm feeling it all like that!

Its so non-106& Parkishhh!!!!

I am so happy to see Mary J doing well.  I remember seeing her at the Essence Music Festival in 98 or 99.  She looked & sounded a mess.  I guess she could sense what the audience was thinking because she kept saying "yall, I'mma be alright!"  At the time I was wondering what she meant...but after that she started making gradual changes.    She got in better shape physically, mentally, & spiritually.  I love her new album.  I will definitely get it!   Hopefully, she will be at the Essence Fest in Houston.  I would love to see her again!

Way to go Mary and all the other sistas out there growin, livin, and lovin'   Keep your head up!

Peace & Blessings,

Natydrdgurl (Nia).

Mary is the bomb!!!!Of all of the female R&B artist Mary stands above. I love her honesty we all connect with you Mary.We feel what you are saying we are experiencing what you sing. It's life and nobodys is perfect. We all have flaws. She is beautiful inside and out and we support her in her ups and downs. She is definitely admirable by me.Much love

Oh it feels so good to see Mary coming of age and growing into a true diva. She most certainly has rolled with the punches and came out on top. I like that in her.

Somethings should be left along.  I hope her husband is not turinging her aganist her family.    what is everyone thought  on this....
I reside in Yonkers as well. I never got the opporunity to meet Mary, but, I had the honor to meet both Mary's mother and  Aunt, who are both lovely people. In Mary's mother's home, pictures of Mary are expose through out the house. Mary is doing well and I PRAY that she continues the good work. God Bless you Mary.

Mary J. I'm so happy for you that God has blessed your life with a told love, Only thru God we find the Husband that will stick it out thru the long haul. Thru your husband's strenght of demanding nothing but the best for you, and God also has a hand in this has showed you that "YOU ARE LOVED SO VERY MUCH BY US FOLKS OF THE WORLD' all colors of the rainbow! I too was a child from the ghetto who watch my mother go thru physical abuse from my stepfather was teased by the neighbor hood kids at home and school because they could hear my mother being hit and crying,me and my 2 sister's crying and scared for my mother. This went on for 9 years, then came the drugs" crack it destoyed our family, thru the abuse that my mom was going thru she was a good mother to us. She worked 2 jobs, she's very talented and smart, as small children my mom never smoked, drink or did drugs. She was stricted on us girls, but spoiled us unconditionly she demanded good grades and high moroles and standards for us, sister girl raise us right! As a teenager i first heard Mary music 411 album something in her music, the story's and words were and still is so real to me it touched my life, that was me in her music, feeling unloved because my mom was supposed to be strong and she wasnt and me being the oldest child i wanted to fix things i could'nt. I was just a kid myself. Mary your music gave me strenght back,  then and it stills does this day, I have every album you have made. You are my inspiration as a women and very soulful singer, You helped me so much in my own young at the time troubled life. Your music saved my soul and my spirit and God changed my heart to love again myself first and then my mom. Thank you Thank you so much you have touched my life thru your music and concerts you are the real deal "KEEP IT GOING FOR ME" I depend on you To keep making bomb music so i can roll in my car turn up the volume ( 600 hundred watts amp) with the 12inch sub-woof speakers, I rolling hard listening to Mary and the people in the car next to me can hear her music too! Mary, Mary, Mary,----------I LOVE HER!!!!!!!!!! I love her realness.  I also love that fact that we have seen her "rainy days" & also have witnessed her "sunny days".  It's always good to see a person go thru the fire & still come out on top. When  Mary sings,  you feel the "Essence" of her.  I can't count the number of times I have listended to one of her songs  (My Life-whewwwww-- HEAD BANGER)  & been like "Damn" she made that joint for me.  It's good to see her happy---happy with her life, her music, & happy in her marriage.

Mary is the Queen of Hip hop and RnB. I mean I agree she has had her share of problems but the music she puts out is real she tells her story in every album that

She puts out mary will always hold her Throan as the QUEEN

I can see where you're coming from when you state that Mary should never have spoken against her family. I, too, hate it when I hear people always talking about how bad their relationship is with their family, especially their mama. However, I didn't interpret Mary's comments as a victim statement. When I read her comments, I heard it come from a place of healing and deliverance for her; she was coming full circle from the demons of her past and she was talking about the sources of some of her pain: the women in her family.

One must be very careful about the statements that they make against their mama and their family, especially black folks. But, the reality is that our families are being destroyed from the inside out because there are things that we aren't talking about in the family or outside the family. So, I think Mary's statements were her way of letting others who are holding on to familial ties that they need to sever, that it's okay to let go and be healed. You don't have to hate your family, but you don't have to hang out with them every weekend either.

As a Black man born and raised in the South Bronx, I can say that I can somewhat relate to the "enviroment" thing Mary was talking about, it can swallow you up if you allow it. It take some type of positive suport whether it is from family and/or friends to rise above the situation. I want to say that I am very proud of Mary and how far she has comee in life and pray that she will let God be the focus in her life and all her endeavors. Mary, stay strong and sweet.
