SO GOOD HAIR: WHAT YALL THINK(274)
|
Someone need to get them young girls and let them know there is nothing
unprofessional about wearing their natural hair.
Maybe they'll get that kind of exposure while they're in college (if they get there), because more than likely, that opinion will be reinforced in their home. When a black woman wears her natural hair to me it shows strenght, power and and a whole lotta self esteem. See to me, this is just another way of adding a label to someone based on their hair style, and it's no different than people ASSUMING a woman with a perm is somehow weak, powerless, with low self-esteem. Just because a woman's hair is natural doesn't means she possesses those qualities that you THINK are associated with natural hair (and I know you know that), but my point is, there could just as easily be some women being manipulative and getting those styles to portray a certain image and get their foot in certain doors. The bottom line being: Your hair does say SOMETHING about you, but what it says is based on the interpretation of the viewer. Some people see Black women with natural hair and threatening and aggressive. I wear wigs sometime just for a quick change. Some people think women wear wigs because their real hair must look a hot damn mess. However, I love my black hair because that's apart of me. If I don't love , me who will? No man wether he is black or white wants a woman with low self esteem!!!!! True, but a hair style alone isn't indicative of a person's self-esteem. I'll ask you, since you haven't said it outright, what do you think of a woman when you see her with a perm. Nothing overly fancy or weave-laced, just a straight wrap? ![]() ................................................................................. but seriously i never really think of it as being anyone else i just saw a certain look and wanted it .
And I think for some people, WHY you wanted it would come into question. Was the "certain look" prompted by a hispanic woman? If so, then that's telling! LOL. ................................................................................. Have you heard of "The Empowerment Experiment"? http://www.eefortomorrow.com/ Check it out. Tell a friend. |

You know, now it's hair. When you know the majority of Black man wouldn't have anything to do with a woman who has nappy hair. It's men who drive the hair industry, because women will do what they think is pleasing to a man. And we all know this. And the way that a lot of Black men are hunting down white women proves this point. Wasn't the whole Black and Proud Movement and going natural instigated by Black men? And what did Black women do at the time? You people are hypocrites. If you've got your straight hair, then that's fine. If a white woman want's to kink her hair or just stay as she is: then that's fine. But everybody feels that they have the right to jerk the collar of a Black woman and tell her what she should do with herself: something a BLACK MAN would never accept. You people can beat up on Black women all you want. That goes for the white man too. Black women have come to far and are too wise to listen to the whine of Black and white men (hey Imus!) about our hair. The Bronner Brother show, John Johnson, Johnson Hair Products: ALL UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF MEN. Get off your stump and REALIZE that many Black men have this preference (permed hair).

Most times I hear people say "they're proud of
themselves and don't feel they need to change", but I think it's a
bunch of BS personally. I applaud every celebrity that started off
poor and ugly and got some money and improved.
and let's not pretend that changing your looks in some way only happens in the black female community. white women ... need we say more? they treat their bodies like ala carte (I want that , that , and that). asian girls stretch their eyes to look more american. latinas get surgery to make their bodies more shapely and injected lips. botox and all that just like white women. yet somehow, black women deciding to put a removable weave on their heads is an issue worthy of a mainstream movie? |

I wonder if that fool on the right would be one of those ones to SWEAR that's his "natural hair". LOL.

Where did i say the whole movment was about hair... What I said was black hair has been and is used to make social, political statements about black image and black sef esteem.. If you dis agree do the research. And U metnion Malcom X but you again ignore that by is own accord... Stated taking out the conk was a social statement. That his natural black was was ok..

I think for SOME it's treated like a pathological issue, but other are simply curious. I do think there's something to be said for an industry in which we provide THE LION'S SHARE OF THE PROCEEDS TO to not be controlled BY US, and for it to have been SYSTEMATICALLY REMOVED FROM OUR GRASP and later WILLINGLY TURNED OVER, that bothers me.
I also think there's something wrong with the perm/weave/fake nail culture that we have as Black women, and what's wrong with it is rooted in a racist past that doesn't appreciate our african features or heritage. ................................................................................. But I don't think wave cream damage your hair like perms do.
From what I've seen, it's the SAME THING, if you mean "wave cream" to be the same as a "texturizer". And I used to always think "guys with waves" got them from all that hellified brushing! LOL. I learned for some, that's simply not true. .................................................................................
