I agree can its is a bit interesting, but I think it speaks more to the fact that  Barack no doubt thinks of himself just as often as being Bi-Racial as he thinks of himself being Afro-American or Black.

I mean, if he were filling out a census application and the only choices on the form were:

Black, Whyte, Bi-Racial

Which box would he check?

To a degree we ADOPTED him just as we 'Adopted'  Mariah Carey and Tiger Woods

and both of them publically and briefly became "uncomfortable" with being put on the spot to choose a "side"  about who they were.

(Remember Tiger Woods proclaiming - "I'm Calabasian")

We are mostly following the "One-Drop" Rule or the "Paper-Bag" Test

Barack is Afro-American to "us" and he obviously has no problem with that title - but it is also clear that he sees himself as not just being AA.

I am LOVIN that the BROTHA made it up there BUT we also need to keep our PERSPECTIVE - He aint da "Messiah"

We should be careful about "Rubber Stamping" EVERYTHING he says and does

Because his jab at himself may be cute

BUT...

We know if  someone whyte got on TV and called him : "President Mutt"

peeps would be pissed

you are right......he is human and is bound to make mistakes. but lets be honest about it......it was a mistake. folks have swept it under the rug..... this is still a racist country and folks are going to rip him to shreds. he has to stand strong and be on guard...

we cant condone the use of racially derogatory remarks against blacks and mixed race people...... we would not allow it from others so why do so many of us do it to ourselves? it shows a certain lack of self respect.....

In all actuallity I've never came across any white person to call me a mutt it was a term used in the black community, what white people would call me is a ngger. Both terms are hateful and no I don't let sheit get me down you know why I got bigger issues to deal with than other people's ignorance. Now like I said his term was not used against another person it was used against himself. His appology to Nancy was justified because it was directed at her. If you think he meant you when saying mutt then write him and ask for an appology.

 *************************

I couldnt care less about what kind of dog he gets or nancy ........if someone used the term against black people folks would be up in arms. if a white person called you a mutt you would not be laughing it off or downplaying it...

degrading oneself seems to be cute in the black community.

he lost me on this one and I have always been one of his biggest supporters.

he mispoke and we shouldnt take it lightly......if you think its cute thats your right. I am not suprised.....*smh*

Thank you! Obama is a very humble person who likes to poke fun at himself. The man used a word to describe "himself" and himself only, and now all of a sudden he's insulted an entire group of people. If he would have called himself a nerd, would he have offended all nerds? What if he called himself crazy, would that have been an offense against all mentally ill people? If Barack Obama would have called himself stupid, would all the dumb asses be in a uproar?

Give me a phucking break!

Tsk tsk tsk... Is that really the best you could do? LMAO.... Too bad for you that I can view that thread myself. If you wanted to post relative posts of mine you could have. Your ass even posted in that thread. Remember? LMAO.... When did you and your forefathers jump on the Obama train?

I'm curious to hear other reasons as to why black women in particular aren't supporting Obama.

Ok, here's one - because they don't have to! And they don't owe you or anyone else an explanation. We all have a free will to vote for whomever we choose, and for whomever we feel is the best candidate and should not be made to feel guilty or be intimidated by those who oppose our views. That is not what our forefathers fought for.

If I decide to vote for Obama, that is my right. If I decide not to vote for him, that is also my right. Now, I believe in blacks supporting other blacks - wholeheartedly.  But DO NOT tell  me that I am obligated to support another black  person - just for the sake of them being black! I don't owe Obama anything. The only black men I am obligated to is my husband and my father. That's it.

There is all this bullshyt talk about black women not supporting Obama, but no one is explaining why they should. What makes him THE better candidate? His half-blackness? What will he do more for black people than anyone else? How has he PROVEN that he's done more for black people than anyone else?

Please my brotha, lay it down for me!

Under construction.....

Oh and this is how you were received in that thread... Lmao... do better next time clown.

What forefathers are you talking about?????

    Black people's forefathers were SLAVES/Enchained,

--that's the REASON black people tend to vote together in the first place.

Because of our common struggle as oppressed, enslaved people.

So if you want to support that White Bitch over a black man fine.  That is your right as an American citizen.

But don't hang your shit on our forefathers as though they owe Hillary's RACIST ass anything.

Shit, it's BECAUSE of our forefathers that you should support OBAMA and MICHELLE.  None of these damned politicians are any different.

Most of us biracials that are mixed with black and white do consider ourselves black it's those that are not in the biracial group that think they can think for us. Tiger Woods is not your adverage biracial he's not clean cut black and white he's asian/black. I just wish people get off this token that they can define who we are when they are not in position to do so. My advice to those that want to get in our head and decide what we think should be more on the side on figuring out who they are, it just might serve a better purpose.

oh and here was my response to you... too easy.. I clearly tell your dumbass that all I want to know is why black men supported Obama while black women were struggling to do the same. I remember a lot of black women on this board back then really being resistant to being led by this half black man....

Oh and as for him being half black, I never said he was anything but that. LOL, new game plan huh? Face it... This black man is and has always been consistent, and any change in thoughts or ideals I will gladly admit to.. Unlike for you I suppose, who I guess is all aboard the Obama bandwagon?

Ok, here's one - because they don't have to! And they don't owe you or anyone else an explanation. We all have a free will to vote for whomever we choose, and for whomever we feel is the best candidate and should not be made to feel guilty or be intimidated by those who oppose our views.

Make no mistake black women can vote for whoever they want. I just found it odd that there was such a gap between the number of black men who support him versus black women.

That is not what our forefathers fought for.

I'm pretty sure our forefathers fought for and end to their being ruled by whites.

There is all this bullshyt talk about black women not supporting Obama, but no one is explaining why they should. What makes him THE better candidate?

Well I'm not trying to sell Obama, and no one can do a better job of convincing the voters than he can. I'm just confused as to why black men are convinced he's the right person for the job, while many black women think that person is Hilary.

What will he do more for black people than anyone else? How has he PROVEN that he's done more for black people than anyone else?

Can he really do less than any other white president before him? You say he is only half black, but does anyone really expect an all white Hilary to do more? What exactly has she done to prove that she is going to have black people's best interests at heart?

But in the end, all I want to know is why this large gap exists between who black women and men seem to support.

LOL, I read that and wondered whose forefathers she was talking about. What they fought for was to end being ruled by whites, so I'm not sure how thrilled they'd be to see any black person choosing a white candidate over a black one. Even if he's only half black.

Sorry for the overlapping of the post lol im all over the net right now in various message boards. Just tell redheels lol sticks and stones may break my bones but words would never hurt me.cool

No, I don't think a man like Obama's father, who was equally as intellectually gifted, would have stood a chance at the Presidency, which doesn't make Obama himself guilty of anything, but rather points the finger back at a larger society who would deny any gifted individual a leadership role on the basis of phenotype and racial prejudice.

Well that was kind of my point. While some of the discrimination might be the same, it seems you acknowledge that those who are mixed race or just lighter will be afforded more opportunities and therefore face less discrimination.

I think Obama's biracial heritage helps a skittish population feel like they still have a racial stake in this man, but from the choices he has made in his life, I feel confident in stating that Obama's racial sense of himself  is not rooted in a concept of "biracial exceptionism," but rather as an individual of black biracial heritage whose racial experiences have defined his worldview, but not destroyed his empathy for others.

I agree that it would help define his worldview. And I guess the question is would his worldview be the same as someone who was fully black. I mean just the way he grew up lends to the fact his view of things could be very different from the average black person. My concern is that because he may have called himself black, that people believe he is black like them. Time will tell how closely he's able to relate with American blacks.

I'd just like to add that this whole discussion can get complicated, and I would be more inclined to believe someone who was simply light skinned, but came from two parents who identify as black, to be more willing and able to embrace being black than someone who has a white parent. So I'm not sure I'd equate your mindset and the mindset of your family with that of Obama either.

    So what?

And if that's the case, we do have to acknowledge differences between Obama and fully black people. One can see the possibility that while he faced discrimination, he might not be willing or able to understand that his struggle wasn't the same or as bad as someone who is pure black. But time will tell.

That fool will say anything to disparage President Obama (isn't that great to be typing it for REAL??? I've been typing it that way for months - and it finally came true! WHEW! I'm still in shock!)
I don't believe he was trying to offend anyone either, however, his comments have offended some. I'm not in arms over this, just think it would make for an interesting discussion. This could be nothing, but it could also give us a peak into someone who isn't as black as some would like to believe. Which I don't blame him for because he is half white.

    Under construction.....

He was talking about the puppy he was going to get Malia and Sasha...and he said his first choice would be to get a pound puppy - "a mutt - like me"...but he has to get a hypoallergenic one because of Malia's asthma.

He wasn't talking about the state of racial issues in America or anything...LOL!

Calm down please, you are being very emotional and irrational.. I just want a discussion on this because I was taken aback when I heard him say it. I thought the comment was inappropriate for the forum he was in, and might give insight into him not seeing himself being as black as some are hoping.

    Under construction.....

Glad you see that. Someone else also mentioned Kanye's use of the term mutt, and while I didn't see any of those discussions here, I'd bet a few dollars that there were plenty of people offended by the use of that term, and Kanye is a rapper who can pretty much say whatever he wants, not someone who is supposed to be politically correct.

    Under construction.....

So it seems. At any rate, it's a stupid point he's attempting to make. And yes, typing PRESIDENT OBAMBA does bring a certain JOY to one's fingertips .... lol...

    ferociously  ...... PANK!!!

You actually here white people say that most whites are racially mixed? That sounds like BS to me.
