This is a MUST READ!!! Unbelievable! Okay, so there's overdrafting fees, and there's THIS SHIT RIGHT HERE!

Wow. This is so messed up. No, he shouldn't have used that card, but they are just ridiculous with their fees. Banks make billions a year in overdraft fees alone. Sad.

Like he said, one overdraft fee would've been one thing. But FIVE? That's just ridiculous. This was a common case of an HONEST MISTAKE. There's a difference b/t paying a penalty and being punished - say, $35 and $285.

I learned many years ago when dealing with Banks period...keep at least $50-$100 cushion in the bank and try not to go below it because that can usually cover any fee you get, granted that screw over they got wouldn't be covered but its rare. I know people who write bad checks to cover bills and then spend the next check after that paying overdraft fees.

I have been with BOA since they were Nations bank and only had 1 to 2 bad experiences with them.  One was i thought my checking and saving were "connected" meaning if i overdraft one, they would just take it from the other....and they did along with a FEE to click 2 buttons to tranfer funds from one acct ot the other and then she says you can do yourself and it won't cost you anything and I was like "gee thanks AFTER the fact" and someone got my card # from somewhere and bought some tennish shoes in NY and i live in GA but I did manage to get my money back after a couple of weeks.   You just learn how to stay out of banks radar because they will charge you a fee for everything possible.  I'm still waiting for them to start charging you for using your own ATM card.

That's absolutely ridiculous. I learned to stay away from the large corporate banks long ago when I banked with Fleet (also now Bank of America). In my honest opinion, I think credit unions are the way to go. I've been banking with a credit union for over 6 years now and have never had a problem. They're a lot smaller, privately owned by its members and they actually care about their customers. Most people are eligible for a credit union membership based on some factor in their life whether it be where you live, your job, old alumni connections etc...  It's definitely worth looking into for most people.
My mom uses a credit union and she swears by them!

What's all the fuss?  Don't overdraw your account and you won't have ANY problems.  If you read his article carefully, the banks make millions off of people like him, they're called IRRESPONSIBLE! Overdraw your account for a couple of movies? If people know banks do this then why not be smarter with your money?  If you can't afford it, don't buy it.  Check your account balance for free online instead of PAYING to see it at an ATM.  Banks don't rip people off, people rip themselves off.... simple.
Credit unions are absolutely the way to go. Most people are qualified for their local CU simply because of where they live. They're not just for teachers or firemen.
No one messes with Bank of America. It is like the Mafia of Big Banks, huge, powerful, greedy, dispassionate. The sad thing is that it has millions of Americans by the cojones, the majority of these which can nothing about it and Bank of America has no intention of letting go.

BofA did me a solid about 15 years ago...someone stole my new order of checks from my mailbox, and started writing checks. When I found out my balance was overdrawn, I went to the bank...and not only did they back out those checks and the overdraft fees, but they also backed out the ATM withdrawals I'd made MYSELF for that time period (I didn't ask 'em to...they just did it)...I was a happy Black woman for REAL! LOL!

But I wouldn't bank with 'em nowdays...I'm doing just fine with my HSBC account...BofA has gotten as shady as the rest of 'em.

There you go, that is just one of the many low down way in which they operate. I am truly sorry to hear what they did.
You got that right. WACHOVIA is also ridiculous when it comes to overdraft fees. I'm closing my account with them as of next week.
I think you misread me, SisterVee...doing a solid means they did a GOOD THING...LOL! They gave me my money BACK - including money they SHOULDN'T have given me back! LOL!

Left WACHOVIA years ago...Bankofthieves is next...but there's no where to run...I'm trying not to deal with any Bank, until the Government steps in and make them act fair and honest with (us) account holders...

But, not gonna hold my breath...
