Breakout star Mo'Nique isn't considered that "precious" by executives at Lionsgate, which produced her forthcoming film. In fact, insiders are saying the 41-year-old comedian's bad attitude and shameless demands for money may jeopardize her chance for Oscar glory - all this before the highly anticipated movie opens on Nov. 6.

The star was MIA Saturday night at the New York Film Festival premiere of the buzzworthy flick "Precious." She also allegedly ditched her promotional duties during the Toronto Film Festival when she was denied a $100,000 appearance fee.

"That money didn't even include hair and makeup costs. She also demanded that her glam squad fly first class," sniped an incredulous industry source. "Apparently, she's ignorant as to how the Hollywood system works."

According to our snitch, exasperated studio chiefs suggested that executive producer Oprah Winfrey get involved to deflate Mo'Nique's substantial ego, but even O couldn't stop the actress from seeing green.

"Mo'Nique said she signed on to do this film for a small amount of money. She said she didn't care about 'no Oscar' - all that mattered was 'those Benjamins!' Because Oprah and Tyler Perry are backing the film, she feels as though there should be a budget to pay for her promotional duties," the source explains.

But the star's attitude is starting to work against her. Winfrey and Tyler have reportedly instructed Lionsgate to put their promotional machine behind fellow stars Mariah Carey and Gabby Sidibe for the Oscar race. Those two are adept at playing the game; both turned up in New York and Toronto to push the film for free (although Carey, left, was 30 minutes late to Saturday's Alice Tully Hall premiere and entered to boos from the audience in response to her tardiness).

"When people say, 'You care more about money than winning an Oscar,' well, what does an Oscar mean? An Oscar means more work when you win it, and that means more money!" retorts Mo'Nique in response to the allegations. "I couldn't eat that Oscar. Everybody needs money, baby. That's how we survive, right?"

Reps for Winfrey, Tyler and Lionsgate declined to comment, but the film's director, Lee Daniels, was quick to say, "Mo'Nique is not a diva. She puts her soul into whatever she does. I love her very much."

He does add, however, that "doing the press is hard for her because she's in the moment."

When will these C list celebs learn they can't get A list treatment?  smh

Ya know!!!!  I really didn't want to go there, but I so agree!

well it was a low budget movie to begin with, but I think Monique realizes that Oscar win does not get black actors more roles so She wants the money

She ain't lying. You can't eat and shelter on an Oscar. Look at Cuba, that fool ended up pretending to be half white and playing second fiddle to some dogs.

If she doesnt care why should we?

It may be a good move on her part.  Once "we" see the movie and decry the lack of good role models and slam the movie she may look ahead of the curve.  I can hear it now on BV.

1.  Why Black Women always have to be angry.

2. Why Black Women always have to be fat.

3. Why Black Women always have to be so tragic.

*I am going to bookmark this post so when I have to come back and pull a raccoon move it will be easy to find.  I predict all the accolades this movie is getting from BV'ers will change once they actually see it - if they stay true to the book.

"If you don't love yourself, how you gonna love anybody else?"
No, I'm sorry... I agree with Monique, why should she appear to promote THEIR film and not be paid?  Since she took the role for little money, her appearances should have been part of the promotional budget.  She can't eat an Oscar... Stand up for yourself Monique!  Lionsgate has plenty of money, make 'em give you some!
I doubt these are not going to be one dimensional, cliche characthers like in a lot of other black films
I think there's a way to handle everything....you can negotiate and let folks know where you're coming from without all the attitude and feeling entitled. Seems like she's going about it in a way that ensures ticking off people and setting them to working against her. Not a good luck.

I am hoping for a good result but you just never know.

Back to BV if you are a black actor and you dont play Malcolm X or MLK we won't like it.

"If you don't love yourself, how you gonna love anybody else?"
If it was all about the money, it seems it would have made sense for her to work out some sort of agreement on the appearance fees and keep her rep somewhat intact. If they aren't giving her anything, and now she's being labeled as difficult, I don't think that will help someone who is all about the money.
Has anyone stopped to think that Mo has her own "irons in the fire"? She's getting ready for her own show. She's got work to do for that. When she goes on the road touting another's work, she's not promoting her own.

I can see why she's doing what she is.

My uncle was a hairdresser. He wanted to teach also. When he went for a teaching job, he told them they had to match what he'd be losing in his shop. If not, it wouldn't be worth his while. Mo is in the same boat. O and TP already have it made, unless they can come up with something that's going to help her show, which I'm assuming it's just about the film, it's really not worth her while. If she's a good actress, she'll get the nomination regardless of how much publicity she's done for the movie.

Peace & Love 2 U.
As long as you keep a person down, some part of you has to be down there to hold him down, so it means you cannot soar as you otherwise might.

I never thought about it that way....Makes sense that she would promote her own show first. But I really don't understand why she doesn't promote precious either. I think she's failing to look at the bigger picture. Mo' Nique has the ability to attract people to a project, and the money that she can get from box office returns, plus the exposure could only be in her best interest too...No what I mean?

I was thinking the same thing, but you never know what's in the contracts. She might not be allowed to promote her show while doing promos for the movie.

I'm just trying to put another scenario out there. We will never know the whole/real truth, but I don't think it's fair for everyone to jump on her when we don't have all the details.

I think she's right.  She can win an oscar all day long and she will still not fit their   "leading lady" criteria.  So get the money now girl

she probably didn't even have an atitutude....

standing up for yourself to white folks equals attitude in "their" eyes.

I finally see what Monique is mad about.  She did this movie for less than what she's usually paid as a favor to them to be part of the project.  I think it's fair since the movie might make money and has Oscar worthy reviews that expect such.
