Is there anyone planning on going to DC to witness first hand PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA be sworn in?

I wanna go so bad but everything is sold out. There is not a room to be found anywhere. I was thinking about taking the bus in very early and then come home afterward but I think we might miss it for all the friggin traffic that day. I wish I woulda thought about it before but I decided against it cause a small part of me thought the other party might steal it like we've seen with our last 2 elections.

I'm gonna keep my eye out maybe rooms will open up as those folks who supported the other team cancel.

I'll be there! I just booked my flight this morning for $148 r/t! Thankfully, I have friends and family in the District that I can crash with. My friend was able to find a room out in Gaithersburg, MD if that helps any...

As far as tickets go, I am on a writing campain to all Senators and State Representatives because I refuse (well at least right now) to pay $500 for FREE tickets. LOL

I'm planning on being there....but like you, I can't find a room.  My co-worker has a cousin who works on Capitol Hill so she's going to try to hook us up.  She has a lot of family in the DC & Arlington, VA area.

No, these are for tickets to sit on the mall and watch this event take place (the ball is $1500) and those are the CHEAP tickets. The VIP section is going for over $13k per ticket. Sheer madness. People really believe that you have to pay for these tickets which is beyond crazy. Here are the links where I saw the outrageous ticket prices...

I was online last night looking for a hotel because I refused to book a flight before determining where exactly I would rest my head.  I 'd be c oming all the way from Cali and I can't be out on the East Coast trying to bumb a ride, or a couch, lol.  I've never been to D.C. either but I was a pissed like a big dog that I was unable to find a hotel anywhere or what was available was almost a thousand per night.  Yeeesh!!! SMH!  <crying> I wanna go dammit....

I was looking at flights last night and they were awesome. I'm like, ok I'll fly in and then fly out but the problem would be where do we go? I saw those tixs and I thought it was free to stand on the PUBLIC sidewalk and see the new leader of the free world sworn in. I almost fainted at those prices. I'm like why? why? why? why? I wanna see it so bad its important to be there but I don't think its possilbe. Those parade prices were astronomical, I'm like its a parade. I'm not asking for a friggin tour of the private quaters of the Black House or even tyring to get into the ball I just wanna stand and cheer my President as he enters his new home at 1600 Pen.
Umm...you mean to tell me that there ain't no "free" seats????  I can stand my behind the reflecting pool.  Darnit, I have to hit the lottery to afford to attend the inaug.!

That's exactly how I feel. I don't have no family or friends in that area and it just doesn't look like I'ma make it either and I'm just 4 hours away.

Do what I'ma do call the hotels and ask if they have availability cause sometimes they say sold out on the internet when they're not. I've had luck with that. They somehow pull this one last room outta they booty cheeks.
I would suggest not focusing your hotel search entirely on DC. There are plenty of deals to be had (I'm looking at over 20 hotels with availabilty from Fri - Wed) for under $250/night. Try Alexandria, VA, Bethesda/Silver Spring/Rockville/Gaithersburg, MD or near Dulles Airport - you can take the Metro from all of these places directly into the heart of DC. Don't give up! ecstatic

I think that my husband just snagged us a room in Crystal City.  I'm waiting for him to call back as well as my co-worker.  We're about 5 hours away (coming from NC).  We're planning to leave on the 18th and stay until the 21st.  I didn't know about having to pay for anything and just sent my co-worker a message about that so her cousin is REALLY going to have to hook us up...LOL.

Oh my hot damn!!! I'm about to have an orgasm up in here....Thanks kindly ma'am!

Now the only issue I would have is figuring where exactly I would be going on the night of the inauguration.  $500 plus to stand on the side walk????  Are we serious??

!@#$%^ BV!!

I replied to your other post but it didn't show up for some reason. The tickets ARE free but you have to request them from your local Senator or State Representative (somebody correct me if I'm wrong please) as they will be the ones to distribute the tickets. The expensive ones on  those sites are for those who fear they won't get a free one and have the extra money to spare.

Ms Vain (((huggs)))

Listen.............are you from this area?ecstatic you certainly seem to be, and you are giving great advice to folks about not just focusing on hotels in the city limits. Great stuff.

Is you my neighbor, Ma'am?ecstatic

I wish I could go, but I am going to have an Inauguration party, like so many of us.  Similar to a superbowl party, but coming up with plans on how we can help support our president.

Obama Pictures and McCain Pictures

**Hugs right back to ya Big Daddy** innocent

I lived in DC for a few months last year (NW near 15th & U) and visit often but I currently reside in Georgia. So you could say I'm a ex-neighbor.  I think a lot of people fail to realize how close the other states are to the District so I wanted to point them in another direction so they didn't give up...I want us to have a Million+ Family March in DC come January. ecstatic

I already went to hotels.com and called a few hotels and motels and it is all booked.

Im thinking about flying to phily and taking the train to DC

I got to see this. I have been wanting to go since he accepted

I am already here.  I will be going to parade, any affordable galas.

Valerie, there are hundreds of hotels outside of DC where u can stay.  They all are near the metrorail system where you do not need a car.

mccain's crowd looks like a clan rally and Obama's look like the united nations
