A documentary is considered successful if it makes a million dollars at the box office.

I don't think a documentary's success should be measured against action/pop culture movies. That doesn't seem fair but even for a documentary, it didn't do very well.

LOL i'm trippin on folks actually rating a documentary at all. since when did a documentary get labeled successful or a failure?

i know michael moore's work gets lot of attention. but i believe that's mostly due to the sensationalism that surrounds his movies. but other than that, what's the big deal? i swear folks are tryin 2 hard for nothing.

Look at the list I posted. Some docs do extremely well. If they put it on the market to be seen by people then the element of success or failure is going to become a factor.
Lol. I saw that!

You also have to weigh how many theatres it's playing in...actually, for a movie that's only been in limited release (and only for two weeks), it's done pretty well...

Alcoholics Anonymous

AA meeting sign

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is a worldwide fellowship of men and women who share a desire to stop drinking alcohol, and subsequently maintain their sobriety.[1] AA suggests members to completely abstain from alcohol, regularly attend meetings with other members, and follow its program to help each other with their common purpose; to help members "stay sober and help other alcoholics achieve sobriety."[2][3] AA created the twelve-step program used by similar recovery groups like Al-Anon, an auxiliary group for friends and family members of alcoholics; and Narcotics Anonymous, a group for substance abusers who may or may not also identify as alcoholics. Although AA's attrition rates are high,[4] it can be effective as a treatment for alcoholism.[5]

where did u get your list from? cuz here's what i'm lookin at. u can't just compare the gross without lookin at the number of theaters it was in. is the number after the gross the number of theaters in your list? cuz check it, i looked up 4 Little Girls (couldn't see it on your list) and it only made $130k roughly. one could say that it was a failure. but it was only shown in a couple of theaters. literally. LOL so technically it did well. so i ask again, what's really a failure?

right, i was just pointing out the same thing. people wanting this movie to "fail" so badly that they're not able to see the big picture.
Oh you still want to act like a dumb ass bish hold on dummy fck you and that got damn boat your ass road on.

You do know that children of alcoholics are more likely to grow up co-dependent, right?

Now back to the topic at hand. Any way you cut it, this movie failed all expectations. Whether you factor in Chris' notoriety, Oprah's support, studio profits & losses, etc. Chris stated he wanted to do more documentaries. How much you want to bet that no studio is gonna be willing to back him?

For a documentary, I'm sure his budget was much larger than most. I heard he spent over $4 million to make this thing and it looks like this thing isn't even going to turn a profit. He's going to have to make at least double or triple the budget for the studio to turn a profit. So, technically this film BOMBED!!! LOL.

I wonder the real reason why the movie failed, I know on BV it was all controversial but outside of BV I don't think it was.

I can't believe even Religilous made more money, that movie was banned from a few places
