Jdimytai Damour, 34, the Wal-Mart worker who died Friday after shoppers stampeded in a Valley Stream store, was an easygoing, helpful man who loved poetry, friends and family said.

Family friend Ronald Jean Myrthil, of Bridgeport, Conn., said Damour came to pick him up after he had staggered across the Brooklyn Bridge, fleeing Manhattan on Sept. 11, 2001. Another time, when Myrthil needed to go to the hospital, Damour took him.

Damour's father, a Queens school bus driver, is at a loss to understand his son's fate.

"I don't know what happened to him. He's gone. Only God knows what happened to him," said his father, Ogera Charles, of Fresh Meadows.

A Freeport High School graduate, Damour attended Nassau Community College for a year, his father said.

His family roots are in Haiti, and he had a brother and four sisters, said Nicole Jean, 60, a Rosedale woman who described herself as a close family friend. Damour's mother, who lives in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, is flying up this weekend.

Myrthil, who is Jean's son, said Damour was a big man and had no apparent health problems. Damour did construction work for a time and installed fences, he said.

Damour loved poetry, and he was a fan of the late novelist Donald Goines, the friend said.

He was easygoing - a nice guy, Myrthil said. "A very good kid

I agree with you! I usually do not respond to these trolls, but this troll was making comments which were not true regarding this tragedy, and he was not a witness to anything! His hatred of black people were fueling his comments, and it was so unnecessary! Also, I grew up in Long Island in Suffolk County, and both of my sisters reside there now. I am familiar with the population of every single town on Long Island and what ethnic resides in each town and Valley Stream is not an all black area.

I am just so saddened by the death of the young man who lost his life so horrificly in such a tragic event. What is wrong with people today?

debgirl12000, any thinking person respects your credibility over a troll's.

Any of us can take a photo to tell a story as we'd like it dictated. I am in a Photography & Social Change class that addresses that type of selective storytelling.

Any person who paints an entire race based on a photo while dismissing facts that conflict with their position, is just a racist. Anything with blacks can surface and the person will attack blacks. This is customary on the Internet, but I'm sure you know that already :)

well put lady :). it will just go over his weak excuse for a brain though. no use replying to him again. u made your point graciously :)

I think it is actually safer on the internet than to go to the mall sometimes.

Absolutely.  I do have to go to the store to get an alreadly-put-together bike for my kid every couple of years but I've been ordering my kid's toys and gifts for others online for years.  I don't mind spending a little more money in order to avoid scenes like this.

Well hello luv :)smile!  I hope your evening is going well.  (Sigh-Geesh, having flashbacks of that negative friend you are always trying to get away from because she whines about everything), it just get's so tiring hearing the whinning over and over again.

Whomever they are reminds me of the Wizard of Oz(1939 with Judy Garland) when the Scarecrow said if I only had a brain. Well this individual along with a few others definitely fall in that category. Without one(brain) we see/hear/read what we get(lol)!

Hey sweetie you enjoy the rest of your evening.

Take care luv :)smile!

Good evening caela  - This is truly sad. This man lost his life because of insenitivity of individuals trying to get a bargain?  The question would be, who the heck would wait in line for hours to get into a store that they probably go into everyday?(Hey if that is there thing in doing so fine, but at what price?)

Geesh, as if the prices were not going to change anyways after the holidays.  If you have to wait all year to get the bargins for one day?  I just don't know.  They have them on line as well. Or they need to asked themselves was it really worth it, those that didn't care. Hopefully it will get the consumers as well as the Stores to start managing better in making sure this doesn't happen again.

My heart goes out to the family.

Peace to you and thanks for sharing this story.

Good evening luv :)smile!  Sweetie you are explaining to someone that truly doesn't give a darn about your view on the matter, mine or the next. They already have their minds set on the race that in there minds are "savages".  He/She/They don't care. You could have a 100 Whites that watched/rioted/hurt several people within a time frame, but there could be this (isolated)incident and you have a race of people that are in there minds animals.  He/She/They don't care.

I'd put it to you this way, it's like a teacher/politician/local law enforcement/judge/preacher, talking about child molestation. They are advocates and so forth. They present themselves in a manner of helping, but all along the lives they live are not what they present.

I've always questioned individuals that present themselves in the manner that this person does. Their lives are not always what it seems. Their presenting themselves on these boards as a "concern"(I use that term very, very loosely) citizen on the wrongs of othe races, making this country worst. Very sad people.

Agree with you.

Peace luv

You know, this is absolutely ridiculous. People are so stupid and become so rude when it comes to these sales. In addition, most of it isn't even great sale prices because they jack everything up and while you think you're saving, you're really not because they have raised the prices to incorporatewhat you woud normally pay anyway.............This incident is a crying shame and if they can trace this horror back to the people who actually knocked this man down, then they shoud be prosecuted and receive whatever punishment they have coming. It's a shame because they say that they have no idea how large the crowd was and to think that someone may never be held responsible for this must be heartbreaking for his loved ones...................

Sisterly,

Ginaly

My mom used to take me, and my sisters to Alexanders at Roosevelt Field when we were children growing up on Long Island! They had the best clothes and kitchen bargains! When I would visit my Auntie's in the Bronx, when I was a teenager, we would go to the one there to shop as well! LOL! Then when I got married and moved to Queens, I would shop at the one on Queens Boulevard! LOL! I miss that store so much...............Sears is in its place in that area now, and it does not compare!
