Obama priest:Bill did a Monica on us(24)

Please read the article before making an opinion. God I love this man Rev wright is a good man i had the pleasure to attend his church and everything the white press say is lies. they spoke politics a tad to much for my tastes but is an extremely positive church. http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/nation/politics/bal-te.preacher16jan16,0,570668,full.story Obama's spiritual mentorPowerhouse Chicago preacher draws attention, and plenty of controversy CHICAGO The packed house at Trinity United - some 3,000 in all - had been in the pews for almost two hours, energized by a 200-voice choir and a rousing dance performance Sunday, when the Rev. Jeremiah Wright stepped up to speak. Man should not put limits on what God can do, but that's what people always do, he told the crowd. Just as God made five loaves and two fishes feed thousands, God has provided liberators for blacks in the past - from Nat Turner to the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., and now Barack Obama. But, Wright said, there were always reasons not to follow them. Some argue that blacks should vote for Clinton "because her husband was good to us," he continued. "That's not true," he thundered. "He did the same thing to us that he did to Monica Lewinsky." Many in the crowd were on their feet, applauding - amazed, amused and moved by the fiery rhetoric of their preacher, who is about to retire. It is just such rhetoric that has made Wright's remarks an occasional staple on conservative talk shows. They often make the rounds in anti-Obama e-mail. On occasion, the Illinois senator has distanced himself from Wright. In the past, the campaign has issued statements saying that Obama does not agree with all of Wright's comments. An invitation to Wright to give the invocation at Obama's announcement of his presidential candidacy last year was rescinded at the last moment, reportedly to keep the spotlight on Obama and not on Wright. Just yesterday, Washington Post columnist Richard Cohen noted that a magazine associated with Trinity United once named Louis Farrakhan as its person of the year, praising the Nation of Islam leader. Cohen called on Obama to denounce such praise of Farrakhan, known for statements deemed anti-Semitic. In a statement released by his campaign last night, Obama responded to questions about Wright's comments on Sunday. "As I've told Reverend Wright, personal attacks such as this have no place in this campaign or our politics, whether they're offered from a platform at a rally or the pulpit of a church," he said. "I don't think of the pastor of my church in political terms. "Like a member of my own family, there are things he says at times with which I deeply disagree," he said. "But as he prepares to retire, that doesn't detract from my affection for Reverend Wright or appreciation for the good works he has done." As in the past, Obama did not completely denounce Wright. The candidate's 1995 book Dreams From My Father depicts Obama's decision to join Trinity United as a fundamental step in affirming his identity as an African-American. Obama's mother was white, he was raised in large part by her parents and he spent much of his youth in Indonesia with his mother's second husband. He only met his father, a Kenyan, once. Obama took the title of his more recent book, The Audacity of Hope, from the first sermon he heard preached by Wright, whom Obama met while working in Chicago as a community organizer. In Dreams from My Father, Obama wrote of his reaction on hearing that sermon in 1988: "In that single note - hope! - I heard something else: At the foot of that cross, inside the thousands of churches across the city, I imagined the stories of ordinary black people merging with the stories of David and Goliath, Moses and the Pharaoh, the Ch ...[Message truncated]

This is what upset white people and the white press most about trinity church and the reason the call it racist. Mission statement We are a congregation which is Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian... Our roots in the Black religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. We are an African people, and remain "true to our native land," the mother continent, the cradle of civilization. God has superintended our pilgrimage through the days of slavery, the days of segregation, and the long night of racism. It is God who gives us the strength and courage to continuously address injustice as a people, and as a congregation. We constantly affirm our trust in God through cultural expression of a Black worship service and ministries which address the Black Community. The Pastor as well as the membership of Trinity United Church of Christ is committed to a 10-point Vision:

For a couple or 3 years I watched the Good reverend every Sunday morning at 7:30 a.m. Never missed a single one, because I liked the way he preaches( like a Southern Baptist), and he was constantly dogging Bush and crew. BUT...when I learned that Obama goes to that church, I stopped watching, and will never watch his sermons again. Not ever.

Wow , Ok your hate for Obama is personal and has a deeper source than you dont agree with his politics . It was rev wright that gave obama most of his views on helping black people and helping GL. so i dont understand you hate. You dont like him cause he part-african and Not african-american? |

I find it odd that whites seem to be at odds w/ blacks who they perceive as racist but it is these so called racist leaders that give black folks guidance that helps them avoid the same pitfalls the white people complain that we do like OOW birth, welfare, crime, drugs etc. Blacks go to them for personal reasons, not about white people. They only like the leaders who make them feel go about themselves and when it really about us and no one asked for their opinion. Jesse Jackson begging you for money doesn't give black people guidance. |

I agree with his assessment of Billery.
Agreed but don't tell supporters of Hillary that. It seems when blacks promote responsibilty it's a problem. Take for example Sean Hannity, I swear he is on Barack like white on rice. I am like dude accept the fact he does not like you and stop trying to start mess. He doesn't want to talk to you nor deal with you. Also don't bring Jermeiah's church into the situation as being racist, I am like dude do you want to know what the most segegrated day of the week is ?Sunday so don't even try and trip on Wright and company and he gets my full respect. It's white supremacy...and it affects Blacks as well as whites. They do not want to see Black people getting their strength and crediting other Black people for their success! |

I have the utmost respect for Reverend Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr I agree this is why i have faith in obama cause he recieved alot of his views on helping people from rev wright. But ill tell you this , if he does a judas on rev wright then person he admits help shape his life and views. Than i will agree with that he will sell us down river. But i have faith in his wife cause i heard his wife loves this church even more than him. |

It's white supremacy... this issue with obama church has everything to do with white supremacy and nothing to do with what the church actually believes. tell me want is racist or separatist about this How is this Racist please tell me: from trinity website

are you a member of trinity??i found them surfing on the net more than a year ago.what an amazing organization he has helped build.i even pondered moving to chicago due to this church.i'm not even christian!!lmao Not an official member, but the way i been defending them i should be lol Nah i visted for the first time in early 2006( my girl is from chi) and it was an extremely positive and progressive church. Now rev wright does like to talk politics but he was very welcoming to everybody no matter want color. it was refreashing to walk into a church and see pictures of black angels or a black moses. He was very welcoming to gays and lesibians, he helped the community. it had a huge young crowd. what more can you ask? But now they want to label it racist, Why cause it not ashamed of being black and proud of it? this issue has nothing to do with obama, the rev or the church it has everything to do with white supremacy. |

i totally agree. trinity is an example of Blacks coming into consciousness. the church is heavily involved in social justice. Many people see Jesus as a revolutionary figure that worked to change the world for the better. alot of churches are into social justice. Not allowing themselves to view Jesus as a meek turn the other cheek type of person.

Please tell me. Why is Jesse and/or Al dragged into everything. Because they are the media's racism ambulance crew, someone should ask them why they feel the need to comment on everything. Why is Sharpton bothering to comment of the Tiger Woods/lynch situation, Tiger said he wasn't offended. Those two always find their way of Fox and CNN and I don't think they mind being dragged into everything if they can get on TV |
