ATLANTA - James Brown, the legendary singer known as the "Godfather of Soul," has died, his agent said early Monday. He was 73.

Brown was hospitalized Sunday at Emory Crawford Long Hospital with pneumonia and died around 1:45 a.m. Monday, said his agent, Frank Copsidas of Intrigue Music. Longtime friend Charles Bobbit was by his side, Copsidas said.

The agent said Brown's family was being notified of his death and that the cause was still uncertain. "We really don't know at this point what he died of," Copsidas said

Didn't want to believe it when I read it. What a loss. May he RIP.

one thing is certain is death.  yes, its been a sad year with mrs. king dying to now mr. james brown passing.

I AM SO SORRY THAT HE WAS SO GRAVELY ILL.

Oh my goodness...this is so sad. I feel badly for his family.

...didn't know he was in the Atlanta area.

Sincerely,

Curly Head Kid

I'm a huuuuuuge fan of his music and had always wanted to go see him.  Something told me that I'd better get a move on it cuz he's getting up there in age so I spontaneously took a trip to Atlantic City to see him this past Memorial Day.  It was one of the best concerts I've ever been to and I'm glad I listened to that inner voice.

Lord,  I am so dissapointed about this.  I guess death is just apart of life but realizing this doesnt stop the pain

You were SOOOO lucky!

I remember when my Mother saw him in Gary when I was a kid...she was TOTALLY jazzed...

Little did we know that his legendary moves would inspire one of the neighbor kids into being a legend himself!

Ah, I can barely type now...just dried my eyes after hearing some of is songs on the radio....It's 4 in the damn morning!!!

*Sigh* How will these young'uns ever know their musical legacy???

He will be missed. Atleast he made his mark.

Yes, the Godfather of Soul certainly made his mark.  He had a long, distinguished career; one not to be forgotten by blacks or whites.  This one made the front page on msnbc and rightly so.  May he rest in peace.

Well I guess Al Sharpton is going to cut his hair. He was raised by James and said he would not cut his hair until James passed.
