Do you know someone with HIV or AIDS? No, I don't know anyone with HIV/AIDS. Now the part that shocked me was when she told me about the guys reactions. She was saying she has gotten everything from a guy pouring his drink on her to some just cursing her out and leaving her. Those cats are CRAZY. In a real sense they should be thankful she told them up front before something sexual happened or they developed deep feelings for her. I can see them NOT wanting to be involved with someone who has an infectious largely sexually transmitted disease, but their reactions were over the top, and "may" contribute to this young lady in the future not being as forthcoming about her positive HIV/AIDS status. My question is do people with the virus try to exclusively date others in the same situation or is it common for them to date people without? My guess would be that a LOT of people with HIV date people without HIV and figure they will tell them later, but I don't really know anyone in that situation so I don't know how ANY of them cope with dating. |

LOL, General Hospital huh!
Well, I know TV shows are really just concerned with getting ratings. But, I think they have done a good job informing people about the illness and reaching people who like to turn their head away from things like this. I was at the salon a couple of weeks ago, trying to teach fully grown women the difference between HPV and Herpes and they were like "No, that's disgusting change the conversation". Well, they may be older and married and feel like it doesn't apply, but they are passing that attitude of "This will not affect me" onto their children. |

No I've never known anyone with it nor have I known anyone that has died from complications although I do suspect certain people, mainly because of their reckless lifestyles(drug use, screwing any and everybody, screwing people for money) may have it. I get tested every year and I think it should be mandatory if you get a physical. I think there are way more people out there running around with the disease looking "normal" and having unprotected sex with their partners.. As we all know, alot of people still don't use protection and I've been criticized by females for even suggesting using protection, which is basically a red flag to me. |

The jury is still out on the person that I have been told about.....my uncle........we(the family) can not get a straight answer out of him.....I mean lying about HIV/AIDS is nothing to play with....but let me put it this way......my uncle can lie the paint off the school bus.......and he is a scam artist to the fullest.....so, right now....i would probably say no......but if I am wrong.....yes, I do know someone....and he is Bi....so, I guess it is true........ |

I've seen people with the virus and I can say that they live pretty normal lives. Had a guy to ask me out once and I knew he had AIDS. He used to be a resident at a nursing home that my mother worked in and I asked my mother what was wrong with him because he looked very healthy and was really attractive. She told me that he had aids and he was there for medication treatments. I ran into him at a grocery store about 2 months later and he asked me out to lunch. He did not remember me and he definitely didn't mention his situation. But I guess that's not something that they immediately tell folks. However, I rejected his invitation.

My best firend's brother is HIV positive...My sister's baby daddy found out about 2 months ago that his girlfriend had it and she infected him...She died on Friday from the diseaseMy cousin's wife...Her best friend just died from it...Also one of my home girl her father has the virus...All these cases are in Miami...I am currently in the MIA and everywhere I go my sister points to someone who is rumored to have the virus. Most of the guys are sharp and still looking good. This disease is no joke and I don't understand why people are still having unprotected sex. I can care less what people say about my chose to use a dildo..At least I am disease free. Wow, to KNOW that many people who are that close to you have HIV/AIDS is a statistical rarity. |

I don't think so...It's a possiility that we have friends or our friends family who have the disease and they had no idea or refuse to disclose the information...My friends and my cousins laugh at me because I say if I hook-up with a guy we have to get tested together...

ITA, their reactions were way over the top. That's why I was shocked. I mean it's not like she tricked you into asking her out of into bed. I feel you. It just has me thinking, would it be easier just to find or network and date others with the disease? I mean I would not want to put limitations on anyone, but I guess from the outside looking in that's what i would think. |

I feel you. It was really good that you learned this from the show. I was just thinking how funny it was that it was General Hospital. But it's great. People need to stop letting the "It's not my problem" attitude affect their being educated about certain things. A recent article addressed a huge problem her in a Florida nursing home and how it's patients were experiencing a sudden growth of Herpes! Normally you would wonder WTH, but they found out one of the guys contracted it, then it started to spread because many of these 80 year old were in the home getting their freak on with multiple partners. |

Well, it's very true that earlier in the epidemic, it was not uncommon for people to have and die from complications due to AIDS and claim "cancer" as the cause of death. Many of the instances of this that I know of are from celebrities such as Robert Reed (dad on The Brady Bunch), Larry Riley (starred in A Solider's Story and later on Knots Landing), Howard Rollins, Jr. (starred in Ragtime and In The Heat of the Night), and James Cleveland (gospel music legend), among others. With the exception of James Cleveland, it was later revealed publicly all of these men died from complications of HIV/AIDS, which may have included HIV/AIDS-related cancers. Jesus, be a fence around me every day Jesus I want you to protect me as I travel along the way I know you can, I know you will Fight my battles if I keep still Lord, be a fence around me everyday!!!!! Peace - Savvy2000

Yeah, I would think if I had it, I would try to live a normal life. But I after hearing about this lady, it makes me wonder how the social/dating life comes out for that person living with the disease. I wonder would the guy have told you if you accepted his invite to lunch or if he got more personal time with you. Hmmm. |
