STAR FIRED FROM THE VIEW(274)

They shouldn't have done Star like that. I hope she lands on her feet. Star Jones Reynolds: 'I Was Fired'
"Something's been on my heart for a little bit, and after much prayer and counsel I feel like this is the right time to tell you that the show is moving in another direction for its tenth season and I will not be returning as cohost next year," she said on the air. "That's shocking to me," interrupted Joy Behar, prompting Jones Reynolds to link hands with her cohosts. Thanking the show's creator, Barbara Walters, "for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime," Jones Reynolds concluded by saying, "I'm not sure what the future holds, but I'm absolutely sure who holds the future." After some discussion, Walters said, "It is a new chapter for Star. It will be a new chapter for The View in the fall." So why is Jones Reynolds leaving? Contrary to speculation that she's unhappy about the upcoming addition of Rosie O'Donnell – one of her most vocal critics – to the show this fall, she reveals exclusively in this week's PEOPLE magazine that the departure was not her choice. "What you don't know is that my contract was not renewed for the tenth season," she tells PEOPLE. "I feel like I was fired." She adds that she was told her contract wouldn't be renewed just days before news leaked that O'Donnell would be joining The View. Jones Reynolds, 44, was part of the original lineup with Meredith Vieira (who has already departed to replace Katie Couric on the Today show), Behar and Walters. _____________________________________________________________

I had believed that Barbara was trying to make Star quit a while ago. I also believe Meredith could see the writing on the wall as well and left before she was asked to. Both of these women are reaching a certain age, and the only grande damme Barbara wants on that stage is her own wrinkled botoxed self. She is probably trying to reach a "young" demographic. What I am so happy about is that this show will go down in flames, killed by the evil spirit that is Rosie O'Donnell... who even in doing good can't help but speak evil about folks. Rosie will turn on young America's Conservative Princess, Elizabeth, and turn on her in an ugly manner. And the protests will begin, the advertisers will flinch and viola. Barbara played Star up, promoted her wedding on the show, allowed her certain latitudes, and then when it backfired decided to cut all ties of her. Not to mention that Star reportedly has political contacts now in the Democratic party and in social settings that were rivaling Barbaras. They were literally in the same circles and parties where the other hosts were never invited. This had to promote some ill will in Grande Dame Barb. I believe she should use this move to leave entertainment entirely and go into another phase of her life. Maybe behind the scenes in law or politics or consulting. And Barbara, well, I look forward to her comeuppance.
I wonder how long this signature will stay up....

As an African American woman, I was through when they announced Rosie as a co-host. This is the woman who lost her mother to cancer, but berated a staff member and intimated that she'd received cancer for crossing Rosie. This is a woman who killed a magazine and launched a failed Broadway review that ended so acrimoniously that the star was sick to death of her. What's she done lately that's a success in the mainstream media? Suessical? Yeah, that's still running. Not. This is a woman who on the View argued that there were NO black male role models at all. None. Based upon what? This is a woman who told her lover's parents that they would have to abandon their theology or never see their daughter again. America will turn on this show and not because Rosie is gay. But because her spirit holds bitterness, control issues and ill will. America has gotten used to fun loving Ellen now. (Which is the only reason I believe Rosie wants to be back on daytime so badly). But Rosie aside, the hiring of someone who unprovoked attacked a co-host over and over again in the media, on her own blogs, etc. is unheard of. It was a deliberate attempt to make Star quit. I'm glad she didn't. The heart of Barbara Walters is laid bare. What Barbara doesn't realize is that there are many other venues now to get your shine on for celebs outside of her "specials". She's not the only game in town now and her deliberate actions may have pissed off some very influential people. I forsee a lot of black actors and musicians on Regis, on Conan, on Dave and on Jay. On E and on Oprah. But not The View.

I truly believe that Rosie O'Donnell has a toxic personality. She is one of the most outwardly obnoxious people I think I've ever seen in the entertainment field. I'm sure there are others, but she is so obvious with hers that it's almost impossible to understand how she has made it as far as she has. Nothing at all is likeable about her and she brings her toxicity to everything she does - it sank her show, it sank her magazine, and it's going to sink The View, which was once a very empowering program for women in television. If I were Star, my next career move would take me out of the public eye for a while. Even though I think Babawawa was foul to her, I think that Star has played a role in her own demise, what with all the excesses leading up to her wedding, the shameless self-promotion, and her own fuzziness on the details of her weight loss. It would not have been possible for that show to sustain two personalities like Rosie and Star on it, so perhaps this is for the best. This should be a sobering and humbling lesson for her, and she can arise from this stronger and more focused that ever. Despite all the ridicule she is subject to on BV, I admire Star and what she has accomplished in life, and I hope to see great things from her in the future. Jesus, be a fence around me every day Jesus I want you to protect me as I travel along the way I know you can, I know you will Fight my battles if I keep still Lord, be a fence around me everyday!!!!! I think if she's smart she'll leave television alone for a while. Let it simmer down. I think the nail in Star's coffin was an episode I saw on the View a long time ago with Hillary Clinton. Star came out and said, "You know if you ever ran for President I would quit this job to work for you. I've told you that." Hillary smiled and did NOTHING to deny that she would seek out Star's support as an employee. I can't remember if Barbara was on that day or not. But I'm sure her behind is not too thrilled about Star hanging with the Denise Rich's, the Gores, the Trumps, the Clintons, et. all.

I do too. She really seems nasty person. For all of her blustering about Star's faking this or that, she was the one who faked Ms. Bubbly heterosexual on her talk show for years. Then she got angry when the real her was not accepted. Star Jones' biggest problem in my estimation was the belief of her own press. No one person is as big as they think they are. Even though she acknowledged God's help she really went overboard with a lot of details about her life. Who cares if she had a big old wedding (I really don't care, your wedding day should be whatever you want). She just seemed to believe that she had a bigger fan base than she did. When will we learn? You can get your Juris Doctorate, you can host a TV talk show. You can become very wealthy. But there is still going to be a segment of the population that seeks your downfall on the basis that "black women can't have anything." Some of them will be black. Some will be white. Not too long ago when those "leaks" were coming out about Barbara disliking Star (which I believe were planted by team Barb), Star's publicist said Star considered Barbara a "mentor". If that's true, that's a BIG mistake. As a sister, if you hitch your wagon to a white woman's professional train you're sure to end up in the mud. They never seem to want you to have more than they do, let alone as much. Be your own mentor. OR: Seek out a mentor who has to face the same challenges as you, inclusive of racism. Or get that mentorship from a higher power.
