God's Down With Bling


Soul star Mary J. Blige isn't shy about flaunting her flashy lifestyle and insists God wants her to have nice things. The singer is a born-again Christian and makes no apologies about her luxurious tastes.

She explains, "My God is a God who wants me to have things. He wants me to bling. He wants me to be the hottest thing on the block. I don't know what kind of God the rest of y'all are serving, but the God I serve says, 'Mary, you need to be the hottest thing this year, and I'm gonna make sure you're doing that.'"

I don't know what kind of God the rest of y'all are serving, but the God I serve says, 'Mary, you need to be the hottest thing this year, and I'm gonna make sure you're doing that.'

God also wants her get on her with her life with Kendu the man that married her. Instead of worrying about the that did'nt marry her. I don't what kind of god y'all serving but my god says shut the F*ck up and live Mary.

Sounds like she is following one of those religion pimps like Keepyo Dolla (Creflo Dollar) or rev. Ike. I am an atheist and respect peoples religious beliefs,but can't  get with the glorification of material things or people being played by ministers who want to take their followers money to live in mansions,wear $3000 suits and have fleets of bentleys !

I was thinking the same thing too. Its ok for her though she's rich and if she wants to contribute to some Pastors 'buy myself a mansion'  fund then thats her loss.
I dont have much respect for these 'religion pimps' as you so eloquently put it but I do respect an adults right to choose and people who get scammed by these so called pastors deserve it for being so dumb.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to be succesful. I believe G-d wants us to be prosperous. However, G-d does not want us to be prosperous in order to attain "Bling". She is sounding like a misguided fool with this statement:  "My God is a God who wants me to have things. He wants me to bling. He wants me to be the hottest thing on the block. " Nah baby, YOU want to be the hottest thing on the block. I truly doubt that G-d wants Mary or any other celebrity or rich person to buy jewelry and cars that could fund the nations without clean water.

I highly doubt G-d has instructed these  "Pastors" to obtain multi-million dollar homes and cars that cost enough buy my house 3 times over. That is waste. I believe that the parishiners(sp) have a duty to keep their leader in a position where he/she does not have to worry about paying the bills. That is his/her job (the preacher) and the people who attend the church have the resposibility of providing their salary. But when there is such excess, shouldn't it be given back to the community? Why should anyone, celebs included, live excessively when others could benefit from their extra pay? That is what MY G-d had ordained. Not vanity and waste like what Mary has talked of in this article.

Why shouldn't God be down with bling.  Hey, the streets of heave is paved with pure gold.  Now "bling" is no big thing with God.  He owns it all.  Only we humans with finite minds cannot understand that the gold here does not even compare with the gold in heaven.  Stop and think about it!

Well, In says in the bible in 1 Timothy 6:17 "Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy" So, it to my understanding that she can be happy about the things that God has blessed her with as long as she doesn't believe that is was nothing good that she has done be it is God and God alone who gave her those things.She should never be arrogant about it.

God is the reason for everything that we have.  do you believe in God at all?? 2 Samuel 7:28 -29 28 O Sovereign LORD, you are God! Your words are trustworthy, and you have promised these good things to your servant.  29 Now be pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever in your sight; for you, O Sovereign LORD, have spoken, and with your blessing the house of your servant will be blessed forever."
 I'm just trying to make sense of Mary's comment. The Lord does want you to be  happy and have nice things but don't forget that those gifts came from him.
