"Phat Girlz"...Monique's New Movie(1042)
|
Black Women do not support this movie. There is an agenda to make these type of movies. This movie makes Black Women look stupid. This movie doesnt just deal with wieght issues, but stereotypical issues of Black Women. Don't take your daughters to see this movie. Its garbage, its crap, and portyrays the notion that Black Women are second class citizens. TWO THUMBS WAY DOWN. |
|
I really hate it when we blame movies for how we are depicted in the public eye. The truth is that we as a group of women made our own beds hard. We are negative about each other, hating on each other, deceitful towards one another and blaming of others for why we are this way. We do not stick to anything that makes sense. We change like the weather yet we want others to see us as stable people in this culture. This is a movie made for fun not to be taken personal but if you find yourself feeling something more emotional than humor then I would suggest you sweep around your own front door. I am a Black female, sexy as hell and could careless who thinks what of me. I know that I am all that and I do not need anyone to justify me for being me. Try uplifting your sisters and their endeavors no matter what they may be and try to see the laughter in things. Taking everything to heart makes bitter, angry and unhappy women. I believe in the empowerment of thinking positive and how it affects everything you do. I get some "me" time so that I can see the world from a better perspective and I just do not have time to believe that others opinions of me should be how I should see myself . Look deeper than the skin girl and I promise you that you will never find a better you than the one you will see on that day. God Bless You

I think Mo'Nique is doing what entertainers have been doing since the beginning of time. Finding her niche..stickin with it and getting the paper. In a time where gastric bypass surgery, liposuction and tummy tucks are just an appt and a credit card away, she's made the choice to stay a big woman. It could be because she's comfortable with herself...or because being big is her claim to fame and it makes her money. It's probably a combination of both. For years, fat jokes have reigned supreme against women like Oprah, Roseanne, Kirstie Alley, etc Why is everyone getting so up in arms now that the tables are turned around and a thin joke actually exists? I say calm down and continue to watch SNL, MADTV, or In Living Color reruns where in at least one skit per show someone is donning a fat suit and downing big people. It's not that serious. |

i think that its more about making it b okay to b f.a.t. letting smaller women know that we could make them feel like we do she trying to start a generation of confident plus size women,if u understood whether,f.a.t. or skin and bones we all have feelings .so just like u said her big azz,she just flippin it and saying wit yo emanciated azz.

I will agree with you. But listen, i am 5'5 size 18-20. i should probably be a size 8-10, but you know what i m healthy, no problems except a heart murmur that i had when i was slimmer. I love myself, we have to take accxount for ourselves. Monique's diagnosis say s she is healthy. i see alot beautiful full women who are in good health, there are alot of skinnier women who are unhealthy too. The scale goes both ways. |

I disagree. Love the skin your in. Don't hate the player, hate the game. I think it is refreshing for an overweight person to celebrate who they really are. In the past the images in the world have focused on being white and skinny. So some young girls think it is a sin to be overweight. I haven't seen the movie, so I am not going to comment on it's story line. I applaude any woman who is comfortable with the way she is. If being overweight has presented some health risks, by all means do something about it. I don't hate skinny or fat women. I 'm not really concerned about how a person looks. It's what is on the inside of a person. The person's soul and how they feel about themselves. Worldy images for a long time has been to be skinny, white and have long hair. We have comformed to those images by changes our hair, bleaching the skin, crash diets, and etc. Monique is just projecting another image. I like it. It is okay to be who you are. If you like it upgrade it or down size it. Some of us need a little upgrading or down sizing. If your're skinny and don't like, chnage it. If your'e fat and don't like, change it. Don't hate someone else for what they feel they need to do, to promote change. It's all good. Love who you are, don't others for what loving who they are. |

I don't think she is funny either never have. I don 't like how they make her character on the Parkers look really needy for a man. I think she does try to take it a little to far sometimes and the movie really does not look all that funny. I am a big girl myself and I don't flaunt myself and act as if skinnier women are better then me because I am big. Skinny women envy me anyway because my husband is fine and you always hear when we are in public how did they get together or they try to get at him. He loves me to death and does not want me to change but, I know I don't want to be a size 22 for the rest of my life so it is being worked on. My husband always says to me do what will make you feel better you have my support regaurdless in anything you want to do. The man gets up every morning and tells me how beautiful I am no matter how tore up I be looking and has been doing for the 13 years I have known him. If anything you skinny women need to watch out because it is about the big girls no matter how ya'll feel and like my cousin told me don't knowbody want a bone but a dog remember that! BE BLESSED!

I think Mo'Nique is doing what entertainers have been doing since the beginning of time. Finding her niche..stickin with it and getting the paper. It could be because she's comfortable with herself...or because being big is her claim to fame and it makes her money. It's probably a combination of both. Exactly, I see it as a gimmick! Nothing more nothing less. I hardly take her seriously. There you have it folks!!!! I guess it's all fun and games when the joke is on someone else. Now, that the tables have turned all of sudden it's a problem. People have the nerve to say she has self esteem issues because of this. Well, what does that say about the self esteem of others that feel it's okay to put fat people down? hmmmmmm Half the people getting upset are far from skinny, by no means are they fat but most of them are nothing of skinny! LOL BV is damn funny!

BTW, for those that have seen the movie what did you think of her skinny(yellow bikini) friend's acting? Her name is Joyful Drake, I went to school with her and I'm curious how she did in this movie.

You know what? Y'all truly do entertain me around here these days, LMAO! I'm trying to figure out why Mo'nique is getting called to task on her bashing yet so many of y'all (not you specifically) come to BV err'day to bash folk not only because of their weight, but their hair color, their nose size, their pinky toe discoloration, their unplucked hair on dey left booty cheek not to mention skin color *gasp* Unfreegin believe, the hypocrisy is astounding. Wow! ...And possibly the main ones getting all bent outta shape about her schtick are probably the same ones who stop short of nothing to berate other women on their looks. I see it all day, errday right on here at the land of friendly blackvoices. *tsk SMDH!
If you don't like what she says then don't listen. We all have choices. If she is out of line, don 't give her your attention. Damn, you are on point in here! ^5

"Phat Girls" is a disgrace. There's no way of getting around it. What I thought I was going to see was all humor and comedy. But, what I saw was a slap in the face to Black Women. By the way, did you notice the continous race reference throughout the movie?. I thought it was a movie about 'Phat Girls". This low budget mess was greenlighted by hollywood specifically for a Black Woman in order for them promote ignorance in young Black Girls who don't possess the knowledge or wisdom to know the difference. This is also the same propaganda that is promoted to young black girls on BET. There is an agenda and Black Women better wake up real quick and see this ish. I keep telling people, tricks are for kids.
Monique was miscat in this movie as the issues she was dealing with should have been played by a person at least 10 to 15 years her junior. Did anyone see Monique's breakdown performance? Give me a f-ing break. Simply put, she was too damn old for this role. Monique, a 35-40 something old Black Women calling herself and other Black Women bitches in the movies. SMDH.
I can't even get into some of the details of the movie, because its disturbing. For example, both characters who were obvioulsly desperate for any man to pay them an attention slept with the first men they encountered. Men, they hardly even knew. At the end of the movie, you had a beautiful fit and in shape Black Woman who still couldnt find that Black Man eating herself to an oblivion to gain weight in order to get herself an African Man. By the way, no Black Man wanted her other two friends because they were too fat. What was the more slimmer sistah problem in finding a man in the U.S.? Im still perplexed at the message this piece of a crap movie was trying to convey. A 12 or 15 year-old black girl watching this mess, may get the wrong message.
The truth is no man wouldnt want the "Phat Girls" not because of their weight, but they lacked maturity and had no respect for themselves. They were miserable, helpless, lazy, had a backwards azz mentality, and possessed the inability to think for themselves. No wonder some of the people in the movie audience were disgusted and left.
Any Black Women taking their daughters to see this picture will need to sit down afterwards and have a real discussion about sexuality, self-image, obesity, respect, and self-esteem.

Let's try to argue or refute exactly what I'm saying. I never once mentioned the health of skinny girls. Truth be told any extreme in weight can be deleterious to one's health. However, we are talking about Monique's unabashed and unfunny glorification of obesity and that's, like it or not, not cool. If we were posting on a topic about Ashley Olsen's new movie, "Stick Figures," I'd have similar comments. One more thing, the only option available besides being fat is not anorexia, there are a lot of beautiful women who fall gracefully in between. |
