Notes from all over

Movie Poster

Sanaa Latham
says she’s getting heat from some African-American friends because she’s starring in "Something New," a movie about an interracial romance. “I know that I’m going to get flack from the black community,” the African American actress tells the upcoming issue of Vibe magazine. “It’s very interesting, because people are like, ‘What are you doing next?’ A romantic comedy. ‘Who’s the guy?’ His name is Simon Baker. ‘Who’s that?’ He’s white. And I’ve had literally black men be like, ‘Uhhhh. I’ll go see it because of you, but I don’t like the story’.”   . . .

Uhg...As many non-Black women appear in movies on television and film and let's not forget music vidoes with BLACK MEN...Why in the HELL should this sista who is acting in a ROLE be dissed???

I saw the previews for this movie and it just seemed odd to me. I'm not really against interracial dating or anything I just thought it seemed odd.

Checkout my website:   http://www.thescentcafe.com

She's broading her acting abilities/skills. Hope the film is well received.

I haven't seen any previews, but it sounds like something I'd see. The cast is good.

Here's an early review. It opens February 3rd -

Whatever, Sanaa. The movie had better be good... had better not put black men down... and had better not degrade black women. If it meets those criteria, I'm still a Sanaa fan. I won't be there on opening night but if someone tells me it's a really good movie, I'd go see it. I never trust movies like these.

Blah! Blah! Blah!

Auntie Big Mama ain't stet'n you if you're talking trash.

I agree with you.  I saw the previews and it did seem very odd.  I like her as an actress, but I'm not really feeling this.  I don't want to say it's because of the interracial dating, but I have to be honest with myself.  Maybe it is the reason why I'm not feeling it, although, I don't really have a problem with interracial relationships.  lol  go figure

Sanaa come over to BV where you will be praised for "expanding/exploring" your options.

Its a MOVIE! Did you see Hitch? Do you watch Grey's Anatomy? Did you see Usher's last film where he was getting it on with an Italian girl?

Let's look at BLACK videos? Have you ever seen a Black female video where anything but a BRUTHA was the love interest? The only one that comes to my mind is that video with Janet Jackson and Antonia Sabato Junior. But you can count 50-11 videos with Black men and groups where the lead is a Bi-racial or Hispanic woman...

SHE IS PLAYING A ROLE.....In her real life she was screwing a Black married man....So, I guess since he was Black, she is a TRUE BLACK WOMAN and not a sell out!!!

Let's not pretend like Black women are not on tv and in the movies with White men.Look at Girlfriends for example.Being with an hispanic is not quite the same as playing opposite a White in my opinion.Truth is Hollywood does not like to show Black on Black romance.WIll Smith wanted Halle Berry for Hitch,But the White studios wouldn't greenlight that.Sanna is one of the finest Black actresses and she and Nia Long are now playing opposite White guys ,yes there will be flack.Look how many films like this Halle B has done.Honestly do you think Sandra Bullock,Julia Roberts or any of the top White actresses are going to  be shown onscreeen kissing Black men  like the sister in Guess Who and Ashton Kutcher,No way,no how.Jennifer Lopez is onscreen with more White men than Hispanic ones.Don't forget whose really controlling the images out there.

I just do not understand why african american actors feel the need to do ir films. We do not get enough films about african american love and it seems when given the oppertunity we are being forced to accept ir films. To each is own of cours but i have always dated black women and it would be nice to see than on film

Again, let's stick with what Sannaa is saying..She is getting FLACK from BM.  Did anyone give Will Smith flack for having Eva Mendes and HITCH was the BIGGEST grossing film that week-end with over $20 million. There are NO Black female actresses CLOSE to making what Black male actors are making...Jamie Foxx, Denzel and Will are all in the 20 million club..

Sanna stars in a small film with a modest budget and fools on here act like this is HER REAL LIFE...

Her REAL life is more sickening to me because sleeping with another woman's husband is WRONG....

Hollywood does show Black on Black romance...Have you ever seen Noah's Arc? *LOL*

I have seen a large number of Independent Black films that show lots of Black love..and intelligence and humor. But, Black folks PREFER to support triflin' ish like SOUL PLANE, BIG MOMMAS HOUSE....

I just do not understand why african american actors feel the need to do ir films. Because there's more conflict within the story. Outside and within. That makes for a better script.

We do not get enough films about african american love and it seems when given the oppertunity we are being forced to accept ir films. Who's forcing us to go see these films? If you're of the opinion that you don't like the subject matter, you certainly don't have to frequent any of these films.

I saw the trailer and it looks like a cute chick flick.  But it seems that it has more to do with being willing to date down than about IR.

Girl, you know better than to ask!

<<As many non-Black women appear in movies on television and film and let's not forget music vidoes with BLACK MEN...Why in the HELL should this sista who is acting in a ROLE be dissed???>>

Because they have to WORK and EAT like everyone else!

<<I just do not understand why african american actors feel the need to do ir films. >>

I know.....but I had to ask it. Sanaa is a wondferful actress playing ROLE...HItch came out and made over 100 million at the box office and Eva Mendes was making the rounds with Will; Grey's Anatomy has Sandro Oh and Isiah Washington in a relationship;  Jamie Foxes' love intereist I think in Miami Vice is either Asian or Hispanic...Hell, Denzel was with Eva Mendes  in that other movie with Sanaa Lathan...These are the 20 million dollar bruthas...Why aren't they being CRITICIZED???? Or asked about their responsibility to BLACK LOVE???
i don't have a problem with the ir thing. but highly educated blk women are always complaining that they can't find a blk man on there level. but a blk women is willing to date a poor white guy in this movie. it just sounds stupid.
where have you been those blk male actors do get criticized for being with non-blk women in movies, right here on this board.
let's not forget that this movie had another title. a title that reference the blk male shortage.
