The red carpet was more of a runway this week for celebs who served style for the masses. From Los Angeles to London to France, severals stunners including Janet Jackson, Eva Longoria, Kelly Rowland, Eve and Joy Bryant showed up in (dare we say it?) 'copy me' or 'don't copy' me looks. Attention-grabbing in their bold-bright hues, animal prints and limited-edition numbers, it was certainly the sistas that were the highlight of the week. There was quite a stir in
Los Angeles Tuesday night when British fashion designer Alexander McQueen opened his first store there. The opening, which was highly anticipated by
Hollywood starlets who covet his super high-end-never imitated-designs, was attended by West Coast residents Janet Jackson, Eve, Joy Bryant and Sex and The City hunk Jason Lewis, to name a few. It was acknowledged that the crowd gasped when Janet arrived in her custom McQueen kimono.
Did it leave you breathless? Would you love or leave this look?

The events surrounding last weekend's NFL Draft Pick in New York City drew more than a handful of NFL's finest. Knowing they'd come out to take advantage of party perks includuing potential endorsement deals and skintight dress-clad beauties, this Stylespotter jumped on the opportunity to ask several including New York Jets cutie Kerry Rhodes (above) and a model, former ANTM contestant Whitney Cunningham, to weigh in their opnion of the new, limited-edition Sean John Unforgivable Black and Unforgivable Woman Black scents. (We couldn't leave the ladies out of this one, sorry.)
Packaged in beautiful, solid black bottles there was no denying its sex appeal visually but did the scent hold up to its image? Remembering that honesty was the best policy they kept it very real and divulged their most recent purchase and dream campaign they'd love to be in.

British Harpers Bazaar May 2008 cover featuring Liya Kebde
It was announced this week that supermodel Liya Kebede was tapped to play Somalian model Waris Dirie in Desert Flower, a film based on Dirie's successful autobiography about her tragic experience with female circumcision. Kebede is slated to begin filming in Europe in June.
Kebede has also added a fifth job to her growing list of many roles: childrenswear designer. The model/activist/ambassador/actress launched a beautiful line of children's clothing that is handmade in her native Ethiopia this season called Lemlem. The Estee Lauder model (the only woman of color in its 59 year history to be one) employed local weavers to do the embroidery and handweaving to improve economic conditions there. Kebede held a launch party recently for the fall line (its second season) which was attended by the likes of model/tv host Veronica Webb and Showtime's Weeds star Mary Louise Parker among others.

Socialite Genevieve Jones' penchant for leaving many to wonder exactly who she is and where she came from has caused quite a stir; however, her new jewelry line is also worth getting familiar with.
A photographer favorite on the high society and fashion scene, Jones constantly makes shutterbugs go off trying to capture shots of her bronze porcelain-like skin and keen sense of style.
While her peers are constantly left wondering how she's achieved such status in such a short period, quietly Jones has been cashing in on her popularity by working on a beautiful, red carpet-worthy line of jewels that those she rubs shoulders are likley to sport at the ultra-exclusive, invite-only events they regularly attend.
Genevieve Jones is the latest addition to the crop of socialite-cum-designers, joining the ranks of Rachel Roy and Tory Burch.

Rocker Lenny Kravitz' love for fashion has garnered him an enviable product placement that most musicians would covet -- he is being outfitted by Gucci with an array of custom and Fall '08 collection clothing for his upcoming tour.
Starting May 29 expect to see Kravitz donning 20 head-to-toe Gucci looks for his "Love Revolution" tour.

Kravitz is a great fit for the Italian brand; his personal style parallels some of their lineup including fitted pants, slick leather jackets, fur-trimmed bombers and hippie references such as long scarves tied around the waist. The tour will promote his latest album "It's Time for a Love Revolution", which dropped in February.

It seems that Ghana is the latest country that stands to benefit from charitable fashionistas. Margherita Missoni, the socialite/model/media darling of the Italian Missoni fashion family has teamed with jewelry designer Ileana Makri and hip-hop mogul Damon Dash to create items to benefit OrphanAid Africa a non-profit that focuses on supporting orphans and impoverished children there.

Common' s style -- be it bohemian or "grown & sexy" has become eye-catching and quite appealing. But isn't it funny that lately his most unique "accessory" has been the celebrity gal?
The rapper, featured in the new flick 'Street Kings,' has been linked to several starlets from Erykah Badu, Serena Williams and Taraji P. Henson (confirmed) to rumblings of dating Alicia Keys, Kerry Washington and Tracee Ellis Ross (unconfirmed). Whatever the real deal is, the incorporation of a hot celeb on his arm guarantees the Best Dressed Award.
P.S. We here at Style Spotter certainly don't think of women as accessories. Thank you.

Last month Grammy Award-winner Missy Elliott and her fashion partner adidas launched a contest seeking ambassadors (read: models) for their fall '08
Respect M.E. global ad campaign. In a theme similar to her UPN reality show, 2004's Road To Stardom With Missy Elliott, the rapper/producer/songwriter is seeking potential stars to enter her newest competition,
"Stand up. Be seen". 10 winners will be selected in June and have to serve more than a pretty face- they will help deliver the brand's core message of giving respect to get respect, especially in the urban community. You can't front, Elliott continuously strives to give back through female empowerment.
Could Missy be hip-hop's answer to the "big give"?

This fall actress Eva Mendes will step up her game post-rehab and add model to her resume. It was announced recently that she will be appear in not one but two separate global campaigns for fashion designer Calvin Klein. Work.

Calvin Klein's Francisco Costa with actress Eva Mendes
The Cuban-American actress is known for her roles in several films including "Hitch" with Will Smith, as Denzel Washington's baby mamma in "Training Day" and last year was her sexiest in "We Own The Night" with former Calvin Klein poster boy Mark Walhberg. (How ironic...)
Could she be coming for supermodel Gisele Bundchen?

When Kimora Lee Simmons became Creative Director of Baby Phat and introduced the name on t-shirts at a Phat Farm show in 1999, who would have guessed that the then-aspiring mogul would take the first women's urban brand to the next level by creating an empire that encompasses almost everything for the metropolitan chick's lifestyle?
Almost a decade later Simmons is set to release her third fragrance (yes third, you heard me) Fabulosity to stores nationwide this week. After the success of Goddess and her second, Golden Goddess it should come as no surprise. She celebrated its impending arrival recently with a party in NYC that was attend by beauty insiders and Victoria 's Secret model Selita Ebanks.

MAC Cosmetics recently launched their limited edition Heatherette makeup collection so the other night they threw a disco-themed party to celebrate its release.
With glitter balls hanging overhead for a Studio 54ish vibe at NYC's Kiss n Fly nightclub, there were also bodypainted models on hand, Heatherette Pink round candied popcorn and cotton candy served with a smile by a fierce and fabulous dragqueen.
Heatherette designers Richie Rich and Traver Rains have a pretty forward, gender-bending and over-the-top following (muse Andre J was there) so it was only befitting for Pharell protege/Star Trak artist Teyana Taylor to perform that night.

If you think you're the hottest of the bunch every time you pull out your Apple iPhone, you've got another thing coming. The recent and upcoming launches by cellphone companies that have collaborated with fashion designers, a watch maker and even car companies will surely put last year's hot thing to shame.
Highly anticipated by the tech savvy fashionistas, are phones by Christian Dior, Gucci and this Chanel-inspired Coco phone. The Christian Dior cellphone strap has been a hit among CD fans for quite some time so ity should come as no surprise that the demand inspired the phone as well. There's no word as to when it or the other one rumored to be in the planning stages by Gucci is scheduled for release.

The Coco phone is a concept designed by artist Fred de GARIHLE. This slider handset that would allow the screen to be pushed down to the keyboard, nd the image would display between two glass pieces...very hot.
If this dream phone were to come to fruition it would surely be a success regardles of the price.

Rapper/entrepreneur Nelly must be a pretty big LL Cool J fan. Not long after dressing like LL while performing one of his songs at a VH1 Hip-Hop Honors tribute to him, Nelly is now ready to revive the 80's hip-hop line TROOP. Generation X fondly remembers the bold, bright brand worn prominently by LL in the mid to late 80's, it was one of hip-hop's first paid fashion endorsements. Created in Bronx, NY in 1986, TROOP was worn recently by Japanese rap group Teriyaki Boyz in their video featuring Kanye West and re-introduced by Nelly at least year's BET Hip-Hop Awards.
