Every now and again, OK maybe a little too much, this Style Spotter enjoys after work drinks and light dinner with friends. However, for those of you new to the city it can be a hassle to find a chic place to unwind after such a hectic metropolitan day. You need a restaurant/bar where reservations are unnecessary, where cocktails are dangerously pretty and where the appetizers are what they should be... appetizing!
Well, my fabulous sister-in-law and I walked down trendy 5th Avenue in Park Slope, Brooklyn to spot after work hot spots for those in need of a proper dose of spring time fun!

Nana located on 155 5th Avenue is a modern mix of Asian Fusion. There's a delectable sushi bar and drinks range from sake to raspberry, white chocolate martini's. So, very good.(hiccup!)

Once again, New York City was bright and vibrant today with terrific mid 70's weather, baby blue skies and a bright sun, which all assisted in creating a happy pace for me and my fellow city dwellers. As I skipped around Bryant Park, I wanted to know what folks were wearing on such a sun filled day. So today's You've Been Spotted blog, which is the first of many, shall begin in the beginning... with the shoes of course. After all, the shoe is the period at the bottom of an exclamation mark! There would be no point to a chic outfit without a fashionable pair. Check out a few folks in the park who were sporting trendy spring footwear.

Why, yes there is! Matter of fact there were plenty at last night's Metropolitan Museum of Art's annual gala. Fashion's Juice Crew, fantastic movie stars, superb journalists and socialites of all kinds came out for the "Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy," exhibit.
In a social situation as this, and especially because of the super, fantastic theme, many celebs did not disappoint and were forced to be creative, empowering and amazing, adjectives, which also describe the superhero.

Pierre Hardy is best known, at present moment for teaming up with Gap to design super stylish, extremely simple 2008 spring/summer shoes for the mass market clothing chain. But most folks do not know Pierre Hardy as the Parisian designer of whimsical accessories that are adored by his high end clientele, the shoes especially.
Hardy began his career with Christian Dior's shoe collection in 1988. He was soon recognized for his achievements and began collaborating with Vogue Homme International Magazine, where he was in charge of the show page, editing and illustration. In the summer of 1999, Pierre Hardy launched his successful, self-titled collection. The men's collection debuted in 2001. Pierre Hardy is now the creative director for Hermes Jewelry and also designs the shoe collection for Balenciaga as well as The Pierre Hardy Shoe Collection.
Hardy brilliantly mixes comfort and artistic design in creating what is best described as the perfect high heel for any tomboy. And even though we first saw this look with the Manolo Blahnik Timberland shoe, it was Pierre who took it to another level. Fashionable tomboys applauded, while fashion's girlie-girls shrieked in delight of the hot new trend.
Last year the "tomboy shoe" was revisited, when Hardy created a vibrant shoe that was more sneaker than shoe.

From capes to leggings, and masks to cuffs, the style of the superhero has influenced fashion with its exaggerated wham!, bam!, kazaam! costumes.
On May 7th through September 1st, 2008, fashion's heroines will unite at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, in Gotham City (New York City) for an exhibition, which will display the abstract similarities between fashion and the superhero. With the assistance of movie costumes, haute couture and high performance sportswear the exhibit will express fashion's power to empower and transform.

With every former model and high-end stylist rapidly conversing into their handy miniature tape recorders, books regarding fashion have become just as plentiful as H&M stores in Amsterdam.
After handy assistant types style sage book, book gets published and the fashion wunderkind goes on a press spree and that is exactly where we find Simon Doonan, creative director of Barneys, dishing about his new book Eccentric Glamour: Creating an Insanely More Fabulous You.

Now that spring has finally sprung, an array of colors fills the landscape and we fashionistas must stay in-tuned with spring's fresh shades. With assistance from colors of red roses to purple hibiscus, this season's wardrobe should mimic a lovely, vibrant garden. But don't grab your AMEX so quickly! First, you must decide which hue is right for you!

Let's give a big congratulations to the newly crowned Miss USA!
Crystle Stewart, 26, of Missouri City, Texas, has rightfully won the very pretty crown coveted by many pretty girls. Prior to snagging the title, Stewart had her own party-planning and motivational speaking company, as well as modeled professionally.
Stewart completed her degree in Consumer Science and Merchandising at the University of Houston. She is also founder of "Inside/Out" which aids young women in building self-esteem. She won a silver medal in the relay at Jr. Olympics and is a fourth generation educator who says she wants to dedicate her life to international philanthropy.
Acording to pageant tradition, during her reign, Crystle will work with the official causes of Miss USA, which include breast and ovarian cancer advocacy. She will travel nationally as an advocate for organizations such as the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance, the National Breast Cancer Coalition, Susan G. Komen for the Cure and Gilda's Club, among others.
She will represent the USA at the Miss Universe pageant set to be held on July 14, 2008 in Nha Trang, Vietnam.
Stewart is the fourth African-American to win the Miss USA title.

I love when high-end designers unite with affordable retail chains. When Gap worked with Pierre Hardy, I snagged a pair of cute silver sandals! When Proenza Schoular created a line for Target, I waited 2 hours in the overly crowded store to cop a few of their adorable spring dresses. And now to my funkadelic delight design company Marimekko has teamed with H&M!

As spring has sprung it's time for us ladies to regroup and re-groom. Legs must be waxed, underarm hair must be removed (oh for sure!) and nails have got to be done!
Pedis and manis are weekly rituals for most metropolitan ladies and a few metro-sexual men who feel naked without a fresh coat of nail polish glistening in the spring sun. So Style Spotter has spotted a few fab nail trends for 2008.

For more drama than MTV's, The Hills add 3 demensional appliques on nails.

In the same vein of "hot tranny mess," the phrase made popular by fierce Project Runway winner Christian Siriano, music mogul and fashion's it boy, Diddy has also coined a new phrase for our urban patois, No Bitchassness. (loves it! snap!)

On a episode of MTV's hit reality show Making the Band, Diddy verbally disciplines one of the band members.
"You have some bitchassness in you, don't you? Cause I saw some bitchassness in you."
And with those few words a new idiom was born!

It is every girl's dream, OK, maybe mine and probably a few hundred other women who love Louis Vuitton handbags and luggage, who collect these well crafted, functional bags as a small reminder of personal achievements. So any fashionista worth her weight in LVs would be delighted to simply be in the presence of one of the greatest artist and Louis Vuitton co-designer, Takashi Murakami. (Applause!)

I was thrilled to learn that in my very own borough of Brooklyn at the Brooklyn Museum there would be an exhibition of a fully operational Louis Vuitton store within and as part of © Murakami, a retrospective of more that 90 works by Takashi Murakami, on view from April 5th through July 13th, 2008.
Brooklyn Museum's comical interpretation of Canal Street Vendors - however these bags are legitimate!

Brooklyn stand up!

This past Friday I attended the 3rd annual Brooklyn Fashion Week(end) show. I, myself am from Park Slope, Brooklyn, but was still somewhat hesitant of what one would expect to see at a Brooklyn Fashion show. Would I it be a bootleg version of the Project Runway finale?
Oh no, on the contrary my dear fashionistas on the contrary!
On Friday, March 21st at the Northside Piers in Williamsburg, I, along with a hundred people or so were treated to a fantastic, charming show by three talented designers.
First designer out was Catalin Botezatu from Romania who gave us a spectacular haute coutore show, which was humorously reminiscent of Chris March's ( Project Runway finalist) 2008 Fall line. Botezatu presented us with looks of dark glam, sexy silhouettes and what could have easily been human hair weave trimmings! Has Chris March started a new movement! (Me and Michael Kors certainly hope not!)

As expected, 'Welcome To The Dollhouse,' the new album from Bad Boy's Danity Kane, was #1 on the Soundscan/Billboard 200 album chart, marking the biggest debut from a female pop group since Destiny's Child in 2001.
So Danity Kane's album is #1, their fashion not so much! As a group their style is impeccable (can someone say STYLIST???) but individually it can be a little sloppy and undone. Hi Aubrey and D. Woods!

L.A. Fashion Week has come and gone just as quickly as the flu epidemic. Some of our favorite female celebs where out and about during that fashionable week in L.A.

The blogosphere has been reporting that Tichina Arnold has vastly improved her style and Style Spotter so agrees. The hat and accessories add a fresh, current look to her simple black top.

In this avant garde look, Ms. Arnold mixed a little bit of Grace Jones with her gladiator heels and an English nanny with her jacket and dress ensemble. No style was spotted here. Moving along...
