Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2008

Posted Dec 3rd 2008 11:37PM by Lauren Williams
Filed under: Style and Beauty, Style Spotter, Life and Style

No one wears floor-length fur coats with sparkly lingerie unless they're Lil Kim... or a Victoria's Secret model.

The annual Victoria's Secret Fashion Show aired last night and featured the lingerie franchise's infamous Angels -- including Selita Ebanks with a brand-new bob -- sporting bras and panties with things that normal folk would never actually wear with bras and panties, like mammoth-sized wings and thigh-high, lace-up stilettos.

The College Survival Guide

    A Fridge
Regardless of whether you have a wonderful sized meal plan, your fridge may come in handy with leftovers or when you feel like stocking it with bottled drinks.

    Computer
The convenience of a computer is essential when sending your kids off to college. Forget the hike to the computer lab across campus students need a computer in the comfort of their room. A printer comes in handy as well. Depending on whether your child plans to carry his laptop around campus, you might opt for a desk top since they're lighter on the pockets.

    Snacks
You will surely survive with off of a meal plan but it doesn't hurt to stock up on snacks when you don't feel like leaving your dorm room. Bottled water, pop corn, cereal and Ramen noodles are all low budget snacks to stock up on. Just be weary of the freshman 15.

    Things from home
Some college students suffer from homesickness the first year. It's best to surround yourself with things like photos of the family, pillows or even stuffed animals. Anything that reminds your child of home.

    MP3 Player
With all the stress that comes from school and exams, sometimes it's nice to block out the chaos in your life and even your roommate with music. It's nearly impossible to find students walking to class who aren't jamming to tunes.

    Budget
Students who enter college often come in at the ripening age of 18. A great time for credit cards. Parents beware, your child may end up ruining their credit at a young age

    Alarm Clock
When you're in college you don't have the luxury of getting awaken by your parents. It's now your responsibility to get to class on time so alarm clocks are a must. But keep your roommate in mind. You shouldn't wake him up ever morning with a blow horn alarm.

    Cleaning supplies
Now you don't necessarily need to bring in the rubber gloves, mop and gas mask but it doesn't hurt to bring along Clorox all purpose wipes for spills or dust. Vacuums and brooms come in handy too depending if you have a carpeted dorm.

    Bedding
What most parents aren't aware of is that most college beds are twin sized but extra long and require special sheets. When shopping keep your eye open for sheets that clearly state 'extra long' or else your child may come up short.

    Shower shoes
You really don't know what some people do in the shower these days. College showers are known to be creeping with germs so spare yourself the fungus and purchase flip flops for the shower. You'll thank us later!

Usher opened the show, and celebs like Lenny Kravitz, Seal, Sanaa Lathan, Gabrielle Union, Terrence Howard, Martha Stewart, Paris Hilton, Mario Lopez and Diddy were sprinkled throughout the audience. The full outfits, like the huge bow-shaped contraption Heidi Klum wore for the finale, are definitely not available at your local mall's Vicky's, but underneath the feathers and glitter you might have spotted some moderately-priced lingerie to give (or to wear for) that special someone for the holidays.

Sexy Lingerie for Love

    The Sexpot
Sexpots love to be the center of attention especially in the boudoir where their naughty attitudes and risque lingerie go hand in hand. Their undergarments have a tendency of revealing more skin and less fabric. Shop for these friskykittens at Agent Provocateur, a lingerie boutique made especially for your sexy gal or guy. The Fashionista/o
Looking good and feeling good extends to the fashionista's knickers. They care very little about comfort, and ease is not readily found in their vocab. They are however, concerned with the look of their lingerie. The fashionista loves trendy undergarments that will not only compliment their outer garments but will also match the mood they are in that day. Shop for your fickle fashion girl or guy at Henri Bendel. (Photo: Donn Thompson, Getty Images)

    The Simpleton
Simpletons want effortless lingerie that can easily come on and off without the use of complicated pins, clips, bows, ties and what nots. Little use of lace and extracted extras are perfect lingerie options for our uncomplicated Simpletons. Shop at Eres for streamlined lingerie. (Photo: Corbis)

    The Avant Garde
For the Avant Garde, their lingerie is distinctive from common bra/panty sets and boxers or briefs. With the use of crystals or beading and asymmetrical cuts the Avant Garde wants to own lingerie that is different and they want to be indifferent to their different lingerie. They care only for the unconventional look anything else would simply be passe. Shop at Lingerie on Lex. (Photo: Getty Images)

    The Intellectual
The intellectual adores undergarments that are almost as smart as they are. Their lingerie must have a clever structural design and fit their shape perfectly, as well as serve a specific purpose of holding, smoothing or exaggerating parts of the body. Shop for your smart ass at Catriona MacKechnie. (Photo: Getty Images)

    The Artist
The Artist's use of imagination in their art studio is conveyed in their choice of lingerie. Bring forth the flowers, add more lace, and give them three different types of fabric on their lingerie and the Artists will be satisfied. Ahhhhhhh!!! Shop for your art lover at Kiki de Montparnasse. The Dominatrix
Leather, pleather, and latex are key fabrics that will keep this dominatrix happy or should we say angry, very, very angry. Cotton is a no-no. Frills are for wimps and white is just not right. Shop for your aggressive Dominatrix at Dick and Kitty by mychael knight. (Photo: Getty Images)

    The Demure
Sweet, sweet Demures. Every night with the Demures is like their wedding night. Not only do they want modest lingerie, but they crave class as well. Our shy Demures can shop at Only Hearts to relive or fulfill wedding night bliss. (Photo: Jupiter Images)

1. TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH I DIDNT CARE TO WATCH, EVEN MY MOTHER CALLED ME AND TOLD ME TO WATCH AND I REPLIED MOM, WHO THE HELL CARES ABOUT THOSE SKINNY B*TCHES THAT ARE PURPOSELY STRAVING THEMSELVES YOU NEED TO WATCH "EYE ON KENYA" THAT WAS ON UPN 9 THAT DEALT WITH THE REALITY OF KIDS LIVING IN EXTREME POVERTY AND STARVING IN KENYA NOW THAT WAS A REAL ISSUE "PEACE"

LORRAINE at 9:03AM on Dec 4th 2008

2. I watch the show each year.......... and coming from a mom with an anorexic teenage daughter - boy, you are so off........... these women are not anorexics. They have meat on their bones - take not of all the cleavage and buttocks'! Anyway - i was a bit disappointed on the lack of Christmas"y" costumes. The stage is usually much more festive....... but all in all great costumes and the girls are just gorgeous.

Kim Duncan at 9:40AM on Dec 4th 2008

3. I agree there wasn't a lot of Christmas"y" costumes. I also second your thought these women are not starving themselves they look just fine to me. I thought Heidi Klum's bow that she wore on the last run was very cute. I also like the woman who had the butterfly wings then had all of the other butterflys attached to it. Overall I was very pleased with the show. Great music, great setting, and lovely costumes.

Joy at 10:48AM on Dec 4th 2008

4. Please! You got to be kidding! Victoria Secrets1 I dont like Victoria anyway. She was always putting dead flies in my jelly sandwitchs in grade school! For me EYES ON KEYA did more to raise my passion get my fires going, to get up and take a stand, to be hot with disire to get up and do something about hunger in the world. that film gave me more of a spiritual rise tha all of victorias bony-assed bitc-woops-i mean women

jonayone at 11:54AM on Dec 4th 2008

5. I thought the show was extremely exciting and artsy..............good for the moral and should have been motivationally inspiring.... The girls had meat and muscle.......so that's a good thing. Overall Fabulosity!!!

barbara at 1:31PM on Dec 4th 2008

6. To Lorraine. Why do those models have to be called nasty names by you, just because you can't meet their physical standards? You're nothing by the typical "overweight" BW that instead of trying to raise the bar you only attempt to denegrate others! Most BW are nothing but "crabs in a barrel"! Just more sad jealousy!

eric at 1:53PM on Dec 4th 2008

7. jonayone...to be passionate about something, it would help if you could actually spell what you are talking about! ok you enjoyed "Eyes on Kenya" but you dont have to knock the Victoria Secrets fashion show...what you knew a Victoria personally that put flies in your sandwich's lol get over it!

Staci at 2:29PM on Dec 4th 2008

8. To Joy - the woman with the butterfly wings is Miranda Kerr from Australia. She's one of my faves! And the butterfly wings were definitely my fave wings of the night. I like how they covered the shoulder harness with fake puff sleeves. To Lorraine - you obviously don't know anything about what you are judging. These woman are curvy and athletic. One of them even loves food and just exercises a lot so she can eat what she wants. Also, if you read their profiles they involved in humanitarian efforts and use their celebrity status and money to make changes. What do YOU do besides watching world problems on your tv?

Cynde at 2:49PM on Dec 4th 2008

9. the show was great i loved all of the outfits they rocked so did usher with his preformace for u'll it was so cool

leslie williamson at 2:52PM on Dec 4th 2008

10. like the show those women work hard to get where they are today.modeling is not easy i say if you got it use it and they use it well. and i to all haters dont get mad because you cant get in those outfits.

saleeda at 3:41PM on Dec 4th 2008

11. Ugh! I think this will be the last time I attempt to watch this show. In fact, this year was the worst. There was more back-stage footage than trips down the runway and the girls seemed to be having WAY more fun than those of us who were trying to get through the show. I mean seriously, we get it, you are a Victoria's Secret girl and you are having a blast being one. Keep the camera on the runway OR show us all the other celebs that attended, but a t.v. show that contained more information about how they put the show together than the actual show itself isn't what I call a success.

Jackie at 4:40PM on Dec 4th 2008

12. Lorraine, you talk like that to your mom. No honor or respect to her. God help us.

Ann at 5:17PM on Dec 4th 2008

13. Wow...that was the most despicable lingerie I have ever seen...what a waste! I am truly shocked at how messy and surprisingly tacky the show was! I am not mad at the girls and their weight as the first responder recited...honestly, everyone has a choice and to eat or not to eat...to watch the program, or not to watch the program is an individuals prerogative...I just didn't understand attacking the girls...it is how they have chosen to make a living...I am not mad at them...so shouldn't the first responder. We are all beautiful as we are...just look inside and find your best kept secret and share it, perhaps then you will receive love larger than you hoped for...tearing anyone down for reasons that have absolutely nothing to do with you, is never appropriate! Love to all ~ hopefully next go round we can all see better lingerie!

Sloane at 5:18PM on Dec 4th 2008

14. I liked the show a lot, some of the outfits will kind of make you blush, but all in all I thought it was very fashionstrong. and to me thats a good thing. I wish they could come to Sacramento Ca, just once.
well I wish all you lovely ladies well. And all I have to say is Vah Vah Victoria, you rock Girl.

Jamelle at 5:30PM on Dec 4th 2008

15. ms. Ebanks I watched the show last nite here in miami, and I heard your comment on "dating" and not only are you beautiful/intelligent, but with common-sense aqppraoch to life, GOD BLESS YOU YOU ARE A POSTIVE ROLE for young black ladies aspiring to emulate you.
