Terrence Howard Talks About Not Being In 'Iron Man 2'

Posted Oct 19th 2008 11:50AM by Wilson Morales
Filed under: It's All Reel, Entertainment

Lots of people, including fans, were shocked to read last week when word went out that Terrence Howard was being replaced by Don Cheadle as James 'Rhodey' Rhodes in the upcoming Marvel Studios sequel 'Iron Man 2'. Generally, when someone gets replaced in a film for a sequel, most of the time it has to do with money. Plenty of actors have gone through this so the trend won't stop. Even Howard was caught off guard by the news.

While doing an interview with the radio station NPR for his album, the issue of him being replaced on the film was brought up.

You're not gonna be Jim Rhodes in 'Iron Man 2.'

Howard: Yea, I found that out too.

Really? They didn't...

Howard: It was the surprise of a lifetime. There was no explanation. I read something in the trades that implicated it was about money or something but apparently the contracts that we write and sign aren't worth the paper that they're printed on. And promises aren't kept. Good faith negotiations aren't always held up. You know, even friendships, people that you support...

If you want to hear Terrence talk about this, along with some other stuff, such as his music, family and science, go here.

1. I don't get it; what's up with that? Not that Don Cheadle isn't good, but what is he going to bring to the role that Terrence Howard didn't?

3. This saddens me. I was looking forward to Howard being a super hero. He is a great actor. Don is too serious for this movie I think. I hope they change their mind.

6. Perhaps the franchise felt threatened by the thought of Howard as a superhero. Perhaps in the suit he'd upstage Robert. Cheadle certainly won't. Remember Cheadle as the astronaut -- you probably don't. That's the point.

7. Don't sweat the small stuff something else will come along ur a good actor.

8. If you've ever read Iron Man comics, you know that Terrance, though a great actor, is not physically right for the part. Rhodey is a darker complected man, not a pretty boy "acting" tough. Hi role in IM was to lure the chics. The movie was successful regardless, so the pretty boy is out. Don Cheadle is a great actor too. Why is it that WE only want to see certain of OUR actors in EVERY film. Why can't we be like them and give everybody a shot? Hmmm?

Lee_P at 11:00AM on Oct 25th 2008

9. To me both actors are Superstars and they need to be paid as such and not try to turn one against the other so just keep doing what you do best.
Always with Love and Respect!

10. In my opinion, "Iron Man" was one of the best superhero movies I've ever seen....hummmm maybe after "Superman".
I was extremely disappointed to hear that Mr Howard would not play "Rhodey" in the sequel. Although Mr Cheadle is a very good actor,he is not not the face I and all of my female friends wanted to see on the big screen in IM2.
We couldn't wait for the sequel, but now...I think we're going to wait for the DVD.
I wish the producer would reconsider.

12. Who are these people?

Rebecca Weinberger at 9:26PM on Oct 25th 2008

13. personally, i didn't think terrence was all that great in iron man anyway. he didn't play a military man all that well and was too--fake. fact is, other than iron man (which he didn't carry), the other recent movies he's been in have been lacking these days, so his big head is past due for a deflation.

14. Have you forgot (Black America), it's always about Money and the white man has it and calls the shots in the USA.I don't like it but that's the way it is.
