The critically acclaimed film project, 'The Black List: Volume 1,' takes on new life when it will make its debut at The Brooklyn Museum this fall.

Museum spokesperson Adam Husted confirmed to BlackVoices.com that the exhibit – created by acclaimed photographer Timothy Greenfield-Sanders and revered film expert Elvis Mitchell – will be on view from Nov. 21 through March 29, 2009.

Serena Williams, Keenen Ivory Wayans,
Toni Morrison, Chris Rock, Colin Powell, Russell Simmons, Al Sharpton, Kareem-Abdul Jabbar, and Sean "Diddy" Combs are among the many prominent African Americans whose faces are seen and voices heard in 'The Black List Project,' a collection of twenty-five portraits juxtaposed alongside excerpts from a series of filmed interviews.

COMMUNITY: Discussing 'Black List' >>>

"Through these incomparable portraits by one of today's most extraordinarily gifted photographers and the sensitive and probing interviews by one of America's most important film critics, an intimate and unique view of what it is like to be Black in America today emerges," Brooklyn Museum Director Arnold L. Lehman said. "Their diverse voices reveal issues of society, family, and personal identity. We are proud to present this exceptional exhibition."

Along with its premiere on HBO in August; the exhibit hit a multi-city exhibition organized by the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, where it is on view August 3-October 26, 2008. An accompanying coffee-table book, published by the Atria Books division of Simon & Schuster, went on sale last month.

1. Although I've resided in Corinth, Texas for eight years; I was born and raised in New York. I can't wait until the exhibit is shown in Brooklyn! I'll be there with my husband and two sons. Seeing this exhibit will truly help educate my sons,(ages 7&8),that they can strive for glory and attain it if they continue to work hard.

2. THIS IS CERTAINLY A LONG AWAITED EVENT. BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE OF MINE WILL BE SHOWCASED AS THEY RIGHTFULLY SHOUULD BE AND TRUTHFUL SPEAKING; NOT ENOUGH. I APPLAUDE ALL OF THOSE THAT HAVE TAKEN THE TIME TO FORMULATE THIS MUCH NEEDED EXHIBIT. HOPEFULLY, ALL SCHOOL GRADES FOR HEADSTART TO COLLEGE WILL BE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND. I HOPE THAT ALL CITY, STATE AND FEDERAL AGENCIES MAKE SURE THAT THEY CAMPAIGN FOR THIS EXHIBIT AT THEIR JOB FACILITIES AND EMPLOYEES' NEWSLETTERS SENT OUT WELL AS ALL LABOR UNIONS. I LOVE BROOKLYN. I ENJOY MEETING WELL KNOWN BLACK FACES IN THE ALL AVENUES OF THE ARTS. MY CHILDREN AND MYSELF ARE MUSEUM LOVERS, ESPECIALLY BROOKLYN MUSUEM; WE COVERED EACH AREA OF THE MUSEUM AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH. KNOWLEDGE IS PRICELESS AND ALTHOUGHT THERE ARE MANY STRUGGLING IN THIS ECOMONY TO FIND EDUCATION, FUN, FAMILY TIME, MEMORIES FOR A LIFETIME ON A LIMITED BUDGET WITH THEIR CHILDREN(I PACKED LUNCHES FOR US). MY YOUNG ADULT FAMILY AND I STILL FIND THE TIME OVER THE YEARS TO STAY CURRENT WITH OUR HISTORY, OUR PEOPLE AND OUR PASSION FOR SHARING OUR KNOWLEDGE AND MEMORIES WITH OTHERS AND OURSELVES. I AM A FIRST GENERATION BROOKLYNQUEEN, MY ADULT CHILDREN AND GRANDSONS BRINGS US UP TO THREE. RALPH CARTER (GOOD TIMES)WHO IS SO ACTIVE IN THE COMMUNITY THAT IT GOES VERTIUALLY UNNOTICED. I REMEMBER MANDELA COMING TO BED-STY AND RALPH HELD IT DOWN FROM THE STAGE(SAD HOW WE WERE OMITTED FROM THE NEWS MEDIA THAT DAY, WE WERE HIS FIRST OFFICIAL STOP). MOS DEF (FROM A TO Z, BUT FOR ME IT WAS HIS HBO SPECIAL BROUGHT TEARS TO MY EYES. I AM SO PROUD OF HIM,HIS ROLE AS THE FIRST BLACK CARDIO DOCTOR WAS AWESOME AND TRUE. HIS ROLE IN LACKAWANA BLUES ALONG WITH A CAST THAT WAS BEAUTIFUL AND INDEED THEY AWAKENED MANY HEARTS, HIS FACE PROUDLY DISPLAYED WILL ALL DUE RIGHTS ON THE WALL OF THE RESTORATION BUILDING ON FULTON AND MARCY. I WISH THEIR COULD BE A SIGNING OF THOSE COMING IN ATTENDANCE, THAT'S HISTORY MAKING AND A GREAT SHOW OF BLACK PRIDE. WHAT A BLESSING.
