WTF!? Barack 'Osama' Printed On NY Ballots

Posted Oct 10th 2008 3:00PM by Carmen Dixon
Filed under: BlackSpin, Elections, Barack Obama, News

In what may turn out to be one of the nastiest, hardest fought election seasons in our lifetime, the dirty tricks are starting early.

In Troy, New York, voting officials claim it was a "typo" that is responsible for Barack Obama's name appearing as 'Barack Osama' on a ballot already distributed to hundreds of voters.

According to timesunion.com:

TROY - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's last name is spelled "Osama" on hundreds of absentee ballots mailed out this week to voters in Rensselaer County.

The misspelling, which elections officials on both sides of the aisle insist was simply a typo, is causing embarrassment for the county.

''No question this is an honest mistake innocently done,'' said Edward McDonough, the Democratic commissioner. ''We catch almost everything.''

''This was a typo,'' said Republican Commissioner Larry Bugbee. ''We have three different staff members who proof these things and somehow the typo got by us.''

According to the paper, Officials say the flawed ballots were sent to approximately 300 voters. On row 1A Barack Obama's name is spelled Barack Osama. Is it a Freudian slip, intentional act or a mistake? Voters are sure to have opinions, and one pol pointed out that the letters 's' and 'b' are not exactly keyboard neighbors.

Oh please. In the words of Judge Judy, "Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining!" At least they could have come up with an excuse like "the B key was broken." Something.
But even the county Democratic election commissioner is apologizing for what he calls a terrible mistake.

McDonough said the absentee ballots went out to voters in Brunswick, Nassau, Sand Lake, Schaghticoke and Schodack with the error.

So far three people have called to point it out, he said. Those people will get new ballots sent to them.
Sure it's an insulting incident but one voter wisely wonders about the larger ramifications of such a misspelling appearing on an official ballot:

One Sand Lake resident who caught the misspelling, and who asked to remain anonymous, was skeptical.

''It's a little suspicious and at least grossly incompetent,'' the voter said, wondering ''if I crossed out the name and wrote in the right spelling my ballot would be invalid?"
Well would it? THAT is the question for the county election commissioners.

1. This is absolutely disgusting. And we are supposed to beleive it is a honest typographical errror. GIVE ME A BREAK!!! There should be an investigation on the chain of custody of this ballot before it was printed. Someone did this on purpose and it should be absolutely illegal. This is just plain F*#king with our democracy. It is a sad sad day.

5. Upstate New York has always been Klan country...a bunch of undereducated white people whose main source of income is the prison system..now, is anyone truly surprised by this type of thing? Just forget the nonsense and keep the focus..GET THE REPUBLICANS OUT OF OFFICE ONCE & FOR ALL!!!

6. This is not a mistake. As time gets closer for everyone to go to the polls, many more "accidents" will occur. Is it an accident that the McCain camp is getting more and more volitale in is description of Obama? Now is the time for everyone to be very careful of the atmoshere. Race has always been a touchy subject and leaves people very skeptical about the motives behinds the "mistakes". Calling someone a terrorist or implying they are a terrorist in todays time is simply irresponsible and ignorant! But how soon I for get, prejudice was born from ignorance.

7. Since Obama is a Muslim, will he do away with the White House Christmas tree?

Abner at 4:58PM on Oct 10th 2008

8. That is beyond hateful of these petty voting officials. Obama is our next president and world leader. He has come this far by divine grace and he will succeed. I've already voted Absentee Ballot in Virginia to be sure I will not miss this most important election on any lifetime.

McCain and Palin are immoral and unkind and this is plain to see for all. Unfortunately, this does not surprise anyone. Enough with the hate. He is the next president. THE NEXT PRESIDNET, THANK YOU GOD!!!!

10. Everyone responsible for the "mistake" should be fired!

If Obama's lead gets too far ahead of McCain'ts, I suspect we will see one or more terrorism alerts between now and Election Day. They're going to pull out all of the tricks!

11. Foolish, racist ploys! The uglier McCain and his supporters get, the higher Barack Obama will sail.

My brothers and sister, pray for Sen. Obama and his family. Ask God to protect them (there too many angry loonies out, now that McCain is losing and inciting his crowd of supporters). There are many of us praying for Obama's protection, asking for the blood of Jesus to cover him (not discriminating against other religions and/or faiths, but what I believe according to the Bible: "In Jesus Name").

Others can pray in the matter they prefer, but that is my personal prayer to God for Sen. Obama and his family.

Anybody named ABNER shouldn't be questioning anyone about Christmas trees, you need to be questioning your parents about naming you ABNER.

14. This was done on purpose and the individual or individuals responsible should be investigated. A person had to be either thinking "Osama" to type that. Moreover, Even if it was a "TYPO" OUT OF ALL THE LETTERS THAT DIDN'T SHOW UP HOW DID THE (S) HAPPEN TO SHOW UP. Those odds are Probably 1:100000000 or whatever. Someone should play the lottery with those odds. It could have be mistakenly oaama, ocama, olama and it goes on but it happen to show up as "OSAMA" someone is playing with democracy.

15. You know it's not suprising to me because we don't live far from Jena, Louisiana and we see it all the time here. I want to put up an Obama sign but decided against it because I know how they (racists)work. They'll shoot it, or us. There have been burning crosses in Oklahoma i think it was. They have their McCain signs up. So look for more of it around the states. They are mad as hell!!! Be careful!
