Product Review - Simply Healthy Hair Shampoo and Conditioner

Posted Oct 9th 2008 7:34PM by Gennifer Miller
Filed under: Hair Apparent, Life and Style

363036 Product: Simply Healthy Hair
Price: around $8 for 8.5 fl. Oz (shampoo) and 6.7 fl.oz (conditioner)
Company: Beauty Genesis International

Promises:

Shampoo – The hydrating and detangling shampoo has rich moisturizers and anti-oxidants that give hair sustainable health, agility and suppleness from the first use; while gently cleansing the hair and scalp of excess oil and build-up without over-stripping. Infused with Biotin to help promote faster, healthier hair growth. Helps repair and prevent future breakage and split ends.

Conditioner – This advanced formula is a deep penetrating healthy hair treat that attaches to dry, potentially weak areas helping nourish and repair damage caused by chemicals, heat styling and environmental impurities in seconds. Blended with rich natural hair strengtheners, replenishing oils and protective anti-oxidants to instantly restore softness, integrity and natural shine. Helps to repair and prevent future breakage and split ends.

Instructions:
Shampoo: Start here, by simply pouring a generous amount into your hand and massage through damp hair, creating a rich lather. Rinse, and then repeat.

Conditioner: Simply squeeze a generous amount into your hand and thoroughly saturate your hair. Let it penetrate for 3-5 minutes. Rinse and towel dry hair.

Ingredients:
Shampoo: Deionized Water, Sodium Laureth Sulfate , Cocamidopropyl Betaine , Polyquaternium-10 , Disodium , Vitris Vinifera Seed Oil Grape , Biotin , Cocoamphodipropionate , Glycol Stearate , Glycol Distearate , Coco-Glucoside , Glyceryl Oleate , Glyceryl Stearate , Cocamide MEA , Glycol Distearate , Sodium Laureth Sulfate , Cocamide MEA , Laureth-10 , Propylene Glycol , Diazolidinyl Urea , Methylparaben , Propylparaben , Fragrance , Citric Acid , DMDM Hydantoin
Conditioner: Deionized Water , Glycerine , Dicetyldimonium Chloride , Acetamide MEA , Polyquaternium-37 , Propylene Glycol Dicaprylate/Dicaprate , PPG-1 Trideceth-6 , Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein , Glycol Distearate , Coco-Glucoside , Glyceryl Oleate , Glyceryl Stearate , Polyquaternium-7 , Biotin , Propylene Glycol , Diazolidinyl Urea , Methylparaben , Propylparaben , Vitis Vinifera Seed Oil Grape , DMDM Hydantoin , Fragrance , PG-Propyl Silanetriol , Tetrasodium EDTA , BHT , Tocopherol

Consistency/Scent:

Both products have a really nice scent. It smells clean and fresh. The scent will linger in your hair for a few days.

Results:

It's about four or five weeks since my last relaxer. I washed with the shampoo, lathering twice. When I rinsed out the shampoo, my hair felt moisturized and detangled easily. I applied the conditioner and sat under the dryer for 25 minutes. When I rinsed out the product, my hair was felt silky and soft.
I applied the Simply Healthy leave-in and serum (review coming tomorrow) and set my hair on large rollers. When my hair was dry, I removed the rollers and wrapped.

Positive:

My hair felt so soft, moisturized and silky. It was easy to detangle and set on rollers. When I took my rollers out, my curls were soft and hydrated. I noticed very little breakage in the comb. The conditioner uses grapeseed oil and vegetable protein, which helped strengthen my hair, but made it silky and soft at the same time.

Negative:

The ingredients are not fantastic. There are some parabens and detergents that many will not like.

Overall: This is a new staple for me. I love how soft and silky it made my hair feel. The softness lasted until the next wash. It's also pretty inexpensive and easy to find at most Walgreens (or online at Walgreens.com).

1. I tried this product years ago when I purchased a trial package at the Expo for Today's Black woman hosted in Chicago. This is a wonderful product but the major negative is the price point for the product. I waited a very long time for the product to be available on store shelves and when I saw the price point I was shocked and went back to using my old products. $8 for 8.5oz of shampoo and $8 for 6.7oz for conditioner isn't at all getting a bang for your buck. Again, the product is great but with washing me and may daughter's hair the product was finished in a month and a half!! That's $16 per month, which isn't economical!

2. Must agree that the Shampoo & Conditioner are awesome, but mine wwere both 10 oz. which I thought was a good value, because I normaly use professional products (Mizani, Keracare) which i have paid $15-20 for 8 oz. I really like the hydrating creme, keeps my natural hair soft most of the day and it smells heavenly.

3. MY HAIR IS THINING..BIG TIME, AND I STARTED NOTICING IT A WHILE BACK. DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT SO I STARTED TO WEAR WIGS TO COVER-UP, WHICH WORSENED THE PROBLEM. I'M WILLING TO PAY $16.00 FOR THIS PRODUCT, I'LL BE PRAYING THAT IT WORKS, AS WELL.

5. I've read that buying expensive shampoos are a waste of money as these wash down the drain, but to buy good quality conditioners. Is there any truth to this?

6. I've read that buying expensive shampoos is a waste of money as these wash down the drain and that is better to splurge on a good quality conditioner.
Is there any truth to this?
