We have hit the quarter-mark of the 2008 of the NFL season and here are just some random observations we have made here at BV Sports: 1. This year's rookie class is solid. Many of the RBs are leading their teams in rushing and there are two rookie QBs (Joe Flacco and Matt Ryan) who are starting for their respective teams.
2. The St. Louis Rams fired Scott Linehan. Remember during the Kurt Warner days when they were the "Greatest Show on Turf"? Well, at least Marc Bulger should be the starting QB again.
3. Forget Carmen San Diego? Where in the world is Vince Young? Well, clearly the Titans don't need him because they are 4-0.
2008 NFL "Quarter-Season" Awards
Breakout Star:
Micheal Turner-RB, Atlanta Falcons
LaDainian Tomlinson's former backup is not a second fiddle anymore. He is the primary offensive weapon for the former "dirty birds" and has to be on the list for most improved player in the league.
Breakout Star:
Aaron Rodgers-QB, Green Bay Packers
You have to give it up for Aaron Rodgers. He kept his chin up during the Brett Favre situation and now is the undisputed leader of the Packers. He is now among the top ten in NFL passing leaders and has displayed true grit in leading the Pack and "Cheesehead" nation.
Most Devastating Injury:
Tom Brady QB, New England Patriots
When the NFL's poster-child went down, so did the hopes of Pats fans and fantasy-owners alike. Tom Brady's knee caused the balance of power to shift in the AFC. The AFC is now a wide open race.
Second Most Devastating Injury:
Any Receiver from the Seattle Seahawks
Nate Burleson, Bobby Engram, Deion Branch have all bit the dust this season for Seahawk WR corp. Quick, name their starting receivers now. Bet you can't and I bet Matt Hasselbeck is really wondering who is next. I KNOW you don't have any of them on your fantasy team.
Most Disappointing Player:
Vince Young-QB, Tennessee Titans
Does he really have a bum knee? Did he just quit on his team? Who knows what is wrong with Vince Young, but people in Tennessee have to be nervous about him. After all, he was selected to be the franchise QB ahead of former Vanderbilt QB Jay Cutler, who is already a star for the Broncos.
Coach on the HOT SEAT:
Marvin Lewis Cincinnati
Things are a mess in Cincy. Has anyone heard anything from Chad Ocho-Cinco? Carson Palmer's numbers are paltry and team is just in utter disarray. The team is now 0-4 and the one shining star, Marvin Lewis, is now a man sitting on a hot seat.
Most Disappointing Team
Cleveland Browns
A team that was once a "sexy" AFC contender pick is now staring down the barrel of being 0-4. The offense hasn't produced, the defense has been lackluster and the "Brady Quinn" watch is on Erie lake.
Top Rookie
DeSean Jackson-WR, Philadelphia Eagles
In a season of great rookies, Jackson has been a game-changer for the Eagles both as a receiver and as a kick returner. Look for him to post even bigger numbers as the season progresses.
Worst Team
St. Louis Rams The good news is that they just fired Scott Linehan. But the bad news is that there are 12 games to go. Maybe they can still make their season respectable, but the odds are they won't.
4. Lane Kiffin just got fired. How about Marvin Lewis?
5. The Cincinnati Bengals are 0-4, and this is a far cry from the team that was two years removed from AFC Playoffs. They have weapons all over their offense and now it looks like Carson Palmer is not the fantasy stud he used to be.
6. Ben Roethlisberger is turning into the human piñata in Pittsburgh due to the hits he is taken on nearly every play. Why didn't the Steelers draft any help on the offensive line?
7. What happened to the Indianapolis Colts? Injuries and age are finally catching up with them.
8. Why did the Vikings throw QB Tarvaris Jackson into the fire so early? He throws a beautiful deep ball but he needs to work on his intermediate and touch throws.
9. Lions fans were finally put out of their misery. The Matt Millen-era of mediocre teams and WR-drafting is finally over!
10. Brett Favre is still Brett Favre. However, I want to see how he is going to react when the honeymoon is over and the NYC media starts ripping him for his play.

1. What about the Buffalo Bills. Don't sleep on my team. Peace
