Frankly Speaking: Oprah Winfrey Says She Never Snubbed Sarah Palin

By Jawn Murray, BlackVoices.comOprah Winfrey

"I just want to go on record saying that I declared back in May of last year that I was not going to use my show as a platform because I chose as a private citizen to speak out for the candidate of my choice and made a decision that none of the candidates would be coming on the show. That was in 2006 the last time he was here. The real thing is, there was this story that I had snubbed [ Alaska ] Governor [Sarah] Palin. I never snubbed Governor Palin 'cause there never was a discussion about Governor Palin being on this show. There wasn't a discussion. There was a report on the internet that said that it happened. I said, 'that didn't happen and no, I will not be interviewing her on the show during the election because I'm not interviewing anyone during the election.'

The week before I had been asked to interview Michelle Obama on the show after her speech, because everyone said, 'what a fabulous speech. You should have her on. I said no for the same reason that I am not using this show for any of thGov. Sarah Paline candidates. God knows she'd be a great interview. The deal is now since everyone knows where I stand, it's a no-win situation. That's why in general people on television don't tell you where they stand. Once you know where they stand, because once you know where they stand when you watch an interview you say, 'oh they're being unfair.'"

– Queen of Talk Oprah Winfrey publicly addressed the rumors that she has "snubbed" Alaska governor and Senator John McCain's pick for Vice President, Sarah Palin by not booking her on her show. Winfrey, who has publicly endorsed and campaigned for Democratic candidate, Senator Barack Obama, used last Friday's show to squash the false report once and for all.

1. Oprah, YOU GO GIRL!!! That's yo' show and you do what you want when you want. I wish more blacks would support you. They don't know you until they watch. I love you for all you do and all that you are!

carr at 10:16PM on Sep 29th 2008

2. If Oprah had decided to have Palin on her show, the Republicans would have written the questions to be asked. That would have given Palin thousands of votes.
I'm proud of Oprah. After she came out and supported Obama, I felt it was time for all the Oprah haters to disappear forever.

rhonda at 10:48PM on Sep 29th 2008

3. Now I hope once and for all people will back off and keep their comments to themselves regarding Sarah Palin not being on Oprahs Show. Newsflash: Sarah Palin was invited to the Good Morning Show and she delcined.

4. i wish oprah could interview the one woman in the world that is the true mother of this country, Mrs. Catherine jackson. Mother of the Jackson Five!! Watch the movie and you will know why.

craig at 12:27AM on Sep 30th 2008

5. Oprah did have Catherine Jackson on her show some years ago along with Joe and Jermaine, back when LaToya was trippin with the guy she was living with and Michael was in trouble. Though I am a Jackson fan, I think that Oprah having Catherine on her show verses the Obamas or Palin is quite two different things and have nothing to do with the current subject matter... lol

6. Oprah has her name on her show for a reason. It's her show and she is entitled to have anyone on for any reason. With that said, Oprah does owe the world an explaination. Why did she decide to become political this year? Why did she decided to support Barack Obama? That "He's Brilliant" line just doesn't tell the whole story. Something or someone motivated Oprah to get politically involved and that someone has a story to tell. This person could be responsible for helping to make Dr. Martin Luther King's Dream a reality. We owe it to history to tell the truth. By the grace of God, one person can make a difference. Oprah was a part of the story, but not the whole story.

7. Talk about racism

azzi at 12:40PM on Sep 30th 2008

8. Ha! If Oprah had been told what to ask Sarah Palin, if she had been a guest on the show--there would have been NO guest on the show. As mentioned, it's Oprah's name on the show. She decided about the candidates long before Sarah Palin was selected-way before we even knew who she was. Oprah did the right thing. Honestly, the way Sarah Palin has blundered interviews, would you really want to see her on Oprah?

Uh no.

Thomasina at 11:10PM on Sep 30th 2008

9. I for one am disappointed with the whole Oprah/Obama thing. Why is it that the ONLY time Oprah has endorsed a candidate for president happened when the candidate was part black? I had felt that Oprah was trying to help heal the racial wounds of America, but now I'm afraid, she has just shown that she herself is truly racist. Oprah has done a lot of good for so many people. I am sure that she is proud of the fact that we have a black presidential candidate, which does show great progress. But I would daresay, that the reason Oprah has been so successful has not been because of a black audience, but because americans of all races have supported her. Now, however, it looks as though Oprah would only break her policy of "no support for politics" for only a black candidate, and makes it look as though all along, she is racially motivated. Oprah, it would have been okay to quietly back your candidate, as this is a personal decision, but now your reputation, I feel has been hurt by this. Now this Palin thing comes along, and many of your viewers are hurt and angry. This is because you already "broke your rule" , but your audience is a huge variety of women, of not all who are liberal. I think this goes back to why you took the stand in the first place, now you have many angry viewers saying "UNFAIR"! I am in a mixed race marriage, with children of different races, and there is a lot of talk about this among our friends and family.

judy at 1:10PM on Oct 1st 2008

10. Judy tell your friends to go to hell and you too. Oprah has a right to do what she want and back who she wants on HER SHOW. Anyone who got angry over nothing, because she didn't want any candidates on her show until after the election is the racist one.
Sarah Palin the unqualified one doesn't belong on that show or any other show for that matter. So, tell your mixed friends back off and go and find somebody white to be mad at.

Debb at 9:30AM on Oct 2nd 2008

11. I think Oprah is doing the right thing, she shouldn't have Sarah Palin on her show, why should she. After founding out so much about Sarah and her racist mind, I don't think Oprah should ever have her on the show. If Sarah interviews on anybodies show like she did with Katy C. and Charles Gibson, I don't think John McCain even wants her to do any more interviews with anybody. She is a total air head, I can't watch her very long because then I start feeling sorry for her. She really sounds like an idiot.

MONIQUE at 9:58AM on Oct 2nd 2008

12. Oprah has done more for white folks than anyone but I didn't see anyone complaining. She discovered Suzan Orman and help make her famous, She discovered Dr. Phil and help him become famous. She discovered here white personal trainer who then became famous because of her. She discovered the gay designer who she had on here show and became famous. She discovered Rachel Ray who used to be here chef and made her famous. She made ALL of these white people famous when there were other blacks she could have used. NO one complain then. Now all of a sudden Palin won't get an interview and people are trying to apply some racial undertone. One black candidate she supports on her own time but all the other white people she has catuplated to fame and fortunae everyone forgets about. In fact at one time I was starting to think she was a tom because she seemed to just make other whites famous and not really help blacks become that famous. But I then realized she new what she had to do to become more wealthy herself. I think she always had a long range plan. Even in here Oprah magazine. She is on every cover but 99 percent of the images in he magazine are white. Oprah has a plan you can be sure of that. She realizes she can't promote too many blacks publicly or she would loose her audience. So she does what she can in charity work. I think really admires Obama. She never supported Jesse Jackson or Als Sharpton. So she must be sticking her neck out now becaue she really believes in Obama. Plus it doesn't hurt that she is a billionare. So in her mind even if she were to loose her show over this she is set for life. Go Oprah you are a very smart woman

mike at 10:59AM on Oct 2nd 2008

13. well lets talk about who is qualified. How do we measure that? Senator Obama has only spent 143 days as a senator, the rest of the time he has been campaigning for president. This man has no political record for having accomplished anything. My Grandma is more qualified than him and she has been dead for 50 years!!

bobbyg at 11:16AM on Oct 2nd 2008

14. REPUBLICANS NEED TO GET OVER THEMSELVES. OPRAH CAN DO WHAT SHE WANTS ON HER SHOW. PALIN WOULD ONLY MAKE AN ASS OF HERSELF ANYWAY. I DON'T WANT TO SEE HER GO ON OPRAH'S TO CONVINCE ME SHE DOSEN'T KNOW JACK ABOUT NOTHIN! NO ONE CAN MAKE SARAH LOOK STUPID BETTER THAN SARAH. THEY SOMETHING NO OF US SEE IN HER. LIER AND STORY TELLER JUST LIKE MCSHAME!

linda at 1:01PM on Oct 2nd 2008

15. Oprah can do what the hell she chooses, if you don't like it, hell turn to Ellen D, and shut the hell up. She also has a right to endorse who she chooses. Everyone else does it. I wouldn't have that ding dong on my show either, hell what would she have to say to interest anyone? "I can see Russia from Alaska? My daughter is preggers?I was mayor to a teenie weenie town?". She is better in McShames back yard fine tuning this disaster about to occur. Oprah, handle your business Sister.....
