Magnolia Pictures To Release 'Diary of A Tired Black Man' In 2009

Posted Sep 15th 2008 12:01PM by Wilson Morales
Filed under: It's All Reel

Not since the Jamaican gangster film 'Shottas' has an independent film genearated so much buzz around the web, and the streets. You can't find anyone who hasn't heard of the film. Here's a film that has played at various festivals, bootleged across the country and is still being talked about after being shown for over 2 years now.

Finally, Magnolia Pictures has decided to pick up the right to 'Diary of A Tired Black Man', which was written, directed, edited, scored and produced by Tim Alexander, and will release the film in February 2009.

The film follows the love life of a successful man (Jimmy Jean-Louise - NBC's Heroes, Mo'Nique's Phat Girlz) as he attempts to navigate 'stereotypes, resentment and anger harbored by black women towards the men in their community.' The provocative film is billed with the tagline, 'Now it's black men's turn to exhale.'

Here's the three minute trailer that got the film off the ground and started the buzz.

1. This picture is probably not that great, but what a great story Tim Alexander has to go tell now. A 3 minute clip that turned into a nationally released movie. Hopefully this will inspire folks to do better 3 minute clips and release them on the web.

2. Could they have gotten someone who spoke clear and understandable English???? Just curious. I had to listen too hard to understand him.

3. Tim, it's ur time and it's about time that this film is seen by all. A film that a lot of black men have lived and most women need to see. I glad that I could be a part of helping you get it showed here in Newark, NJ.

4. I have been waiting for this film to be released for some time now. I have seen the clips and I think that it will be a serious and much needed topic of discussion for the black community. The issue that the film addresses is real and must not be swept under the rug. Can't wait until it's release.

5. I totally enjoyed this clip. Someone has finally put to film the reality of being a black man, somewhat successful and the respect he still does not get from the black (queen, diva, s.b.w.). I can't wait until it comes out. Good lookin'.

6. this clip has really gotten me interested in the film..i heard of the film but i wasnt too sure on what it would be like but now I see..and to airrtogg u sound real ignorant right now by saying" couldn't they of found someone who speaks understandable english" Comments like that are the reason black men are so "tired" and y the rest of the world dosent like americans...eveyone adapts and learns english , cater to us and yet we're so high up on high horses we cant even come down respect someone else culture or some1 who has worked hard enough to break through obstacles and make it.

8. This would have been more interesting if the characters were gay black men. There are more stories to be told regarding relationships in the black community.Someone hopefully will come up with a story about what it is like to be a black gay man, WHO IS NOT ON THE DOWNLOW.

9. Interesting film, but is it needed? Will it mend the gap between Black Men & Women? It doesn't look like it. It looks more like a misplaced jab...

11. You know I've never known a woman to come out of the womb being disappointed in the wackness of Black men. It's a process and Black men need to stop making excuses because they are the causes of this result. Black women, through interaction with Black men end up independent, head-strong, and distrustful, because if a good majority of us relied on our Black lovers we'd be homeless or burdened. Bottom line is women cannot trust a good majority of Black men to provide and protect them, because Black men are weak. A black man can't walk down the street without being harrassed by cops, they have to work twice as hard to excel in business or land a job, they are accosted by a white society in a myriad of ways and it has weakened them. I think their being victims makes them expect more from a sista than anyone is capable of giving another person, especially when she is receiving nothing. We can't assuage their pain so we seem 'drama filled', but being with a woman of another race makes that type of Black man more tolerant and in their sick minds, more tolerated. Lead and we will follow. It's just that simple.

12. THIS IS A OLD FILM I ALREADY HAVE IT ON DVD. AND IT IS A GREAT FILM. I THINK WOMEN OF ALL RACES SHOULD SEE THIS FILM. MAYBE U WILL UNDERSTAND THE VIEW OF A MAN BETTER. THEY CAN GET TIRED ALSO.

13. Black Men Revealed

Both of you are un-educated and it shows. Most whites and other American are un-educated about American history. Because of our white based education. Lies and streotypes have been taught to Americans. First let me talk about slavery-( WHITES LOVE TO TALK ABOUT SLAVERY) it was the first form of welfare for white Americans only. ""Pulling yourself up by your boot staps'' & ''Hard Work"" had nothing to do with the suscess of white Americans. Welfare to this day has always been 67% of all Americans... WHITE! Jim Crow Law"' was a set aside program ( Social Welfare) for whites in America. White racism has destoryed the founding father standard of respect of American value. Black Men Revealed what is not told or mention in schools around the country. Is the fact that whites where the first to receive Affirmative Action in this country. Only difference was you had it at 100% for all white Americans. Now whites have a history of hatred of non-whites . But for blacks and whites there is a different kind a hatred toward blacks. This hatred has helped white coward cops to murder UNARMED black children as young as 5 years old, And adults as old as 92 years old. White hatred of blacks has made it ok in the minds of whites to discriminate against blacks. It helps whites to continue to repeat lies about the past history of America. I truly believe that whites feel above GOD and think they will get away with hatred of man .
