Frankly Speaking: Niecy Nash Offers Advice To Michelle Obama

"Celebrate the truth of who you are. I think that's the long and the short of it. In any high visibility role, along with it comes so much stress and so much anxiety. You take on trying to fit into what you think other people think you should be or how they think you should look, that's too much stress, you know? Baby, you're trying to get your husband in the White House. You don't have time to be on no diet. Put on a Spanx and hit it! You don't have time for no foolishness. You have to walk in the truth of 'who you are' and celebrate that thing. There are so many other things that take precedence over that, you know what I mean? If you need to have a couple of sizes of dresses in the closet at the White House, then that's what you do. If today that size eight slips on real good and the next week you need to put on a size 10, then that's what you do."

– Actress Niecy Nash ('Do No Disturb'/'Clean House') offered words of wisdom for Michelle Obama, wife of presidential hopeful Barack Obama, in an interview with syndicated columnist Sandra Varner (Talk2SV.com).

Michelle Obama Transformation

This is the woman who could be our first African-American First Lady. Michelle and Barack Obama met as lawyers in private practice in Chicago, and they married soon after. Did she know then what her destiny would hold? (Photo: NYT)

As the vice president of community and external affairs at the University of Chicago Medical Center, Michelle already had a look that was polished and professional, perfect for a president's wife. As her position became more prominent, Mrs. Obama chose to keep her professional and simple attire. Suits and dark colors continue to pervade her wardrobe. (Photo: Alex Wong, Getty Images)

In a rare appearance in formal wear, Michelle and Barack got glam to attend the 36th NAACP Image Awards in 2005. Here we see Michelle in a softer floral ensemble in eye-catching colors we won't see often during the campaign. (Photo: Frederick M. Brown, Getty Images)

Michelle's suit tastes veer towards cropped jackets with pencil skirts. Her simple pearl earrings and white scarf are accessories Jackie Kennedy would approve of. There go those sleeves again! (Photo: Chip Somodevilla, Getty Images)

2. FIRST OF ALL WHEN DID HILARY CLINTON BECOME AFRICAN AMERICAN? WHY DO WE CALL OBAMA A BLACK MAN? HE IS HALF BLACK AND HALF WHITE.

3. Thanks, Jawn! I love me some Niecy Nash – she is so original, so fun, and so loving. Her bubbly personality just shines so brightly in all that she does and it’s a rarity nowadays for someone to have that type of quality. If you are reading this, Niecy – you are admired and loved. Keep doing Y-O-U!

Peace & Blessings,

4. Niecy Nash needs her own talk show. She was on Baisden After Dark on TVOne and she was personable and hilarious.

5. yeah to the person suggesting Neicy should have her own show ,hell if Wendy and Tyra got one why not Neicy.

chas jr at 10:51AM on Sep 6th 2008

6. Niecy Nash is great - I watch Clean House just because of her. And yes, I would much rather see her on a show than that man Wendy Williams!!!

Paulette at 8:34PM on Sep 6th 2008

7. Greetings:
Niecy is funny and real.I* guess something different. I love,Clean House. Like to see her less madeup and hair. But like Oprah, thats show business.
Thanks for listening to my opinion.

Laura at 9:25AM on Sep 7th 2008

8. Oh my, she is too ghetto fab for me, damn. Not funny at all, reminds me of ghetto azz Monique

Smart one at 10:58AM on Sep 7th 2008

9. Yes, I agree with Smart one #8 but, I love me some Monique. She's getting with age.

carla at 1:20PM on Sep 7th 2008

10. Yes. I agree with #8, but I love Monique she's getting better with age.

carla at 1:23PM on Sep 7th 2008

11. Niecy Nash is funny and has her own style. I think she has the personality to make a good talk-show host.

MrMellow at 1:40PM on Sep 7th 2008

12. Yes, it would be nice for Nicey to have her talk show. But that is not present concern. I want to thank Mrs. Nash for her kind words of wisdom. As a pastor, too often we allow people to mandate our persona -- which in actuality is bondage. However, when we are true to ourselves and obedient to God only then does peace engulfs our daily moves. The average black american female is not a size 2-3 and not even a size 8. It would be nice, if I was that but I'm happy being a size 14 (and look good too). Michelle be who you are and don't allow others to place pressures on you that you will only eventually get tired of and stressed out because of. Girl, let go and continue to let God. Be the woman that God created you to be whether it's a size 8 or 10 or 16 (BE YOU!!!!).

wisdomspeaking at 5:27PM on Sep 7th 2008

13. I love Niecy Nash! She is funny, down to earth and seems very personable. I love the show clean house and am disappointed when she is not on because I look for her side jokes and comments. And yes she does need her own show, it would blow Tyra off the air!

Stephanie at 6:30PM on Sep 7th 2008

14. Michelle, you look beautiful. Why in the world would you want to look like the Barbie Doll Cindy McCain? Laura Bush is not skinny. She is a woman with a woman's body. I am more impressed with your brain than your shape. You are one of Barack's biggest assests and you two are great together. A statuesque beautiful, intelligent, black woman is wonderful and what a great first lady you will make. I love your girls. They remind me of my grand-daughters and self-asssured and beautiful. Oh, in case anyone is wondering; I am white and smart enough to know we need a President who will help us all. Not just the rich who can't get around Phoenix without a plane. My daughter lives in downtown Phoenix, is pretty well off, and manages to do so without a plane. Poor Cindy. She can't figure it out. Her IQ is probably lower than her husbands. It just bothers me that they think we are as stupid as they are.

imissmyson at 6:49PM on Sep 7th 2008

15. LEIGHANN KNOWLES don't forget 2% Black Blood constitute being "Black". Thanks to our slave masters.
