What The Colors You Wear Mean

Posted Aug 27th 2008 10:01PM by Kiante Young

When you were a child, one of the first questions people always asked was: What is your favorite color? For many of us, although we do have a color we absolutely love, that color may not be right for us. Colors have many different meanings and can effect you as well as everyone around you. Before we get to that do you understand what colors symbolize? Well if not let me break it down.

Blue
Blue comes in so many shades in the world around us. From the beautiful sky to the water of our oceans (technically) down to the color of some of our ink pens, the color blue is everywhere. Symbolizing peace, tranquility and being male, this color's claim to fame in fashion came with the development of denim. Nothing is like a cool blue pair of jeans to blend random colors together. Add the white tee from above and a blue Yankee fitted cap and you are good to go.

White
The ultimate color for your summer top, white is a symbol of pureness, newness and innocence. With the ability to reflect light, it helps to keep you cool on a hot day. Meshing perfectly with any outfit, you will look great all day until you get a stain. Susceptible to marks, dirty and food stains, your clean look will be ruined. Be careful when you eat while wearing white especially if its after Labor Day!

Pink
Totally a feminine color until recent years (shout out to Cam'Ron), Pink is gentle color. Naturally calming by nature, a pink shirt under a blue suit is a great blend for a young executive. For young ladies, why not try to blend pink with brown. Trust me it will work!

Red

When red pops up, passion and fire comes to mind. The color of love, red is by far one of the most intense and rambunctious colors. Supposedly this color increases the heart rate and hunger, red can bring the sexy out of you but it can also make you look heavier.

Purple
A symbol of royalty, purple used to be an elitist's color but has grown into a common color. Leaning more into a feminine color, purple is sure to make people stop and stare especially if you have purple shoes to match. Megastar Prince made the color popular with the song, Purple Rain.

Black

Black is a no-brainer color when it comes to putting an outfit together because black goes with everything. A symbol of authority, black absorbs light and is known to make one look thinner. With stains and dirt less visible than all the other colors, black transcends social status and is worn by everyone in one way or another.

Stay tuned gang because next week we will discuss blending colors in your outfit according to your complexion and eye color.

Let us know what your favorite color is and what clothing item you like to wear in that color.

1. My favorite color is purple. Although, I don't have many outfits of the color, I like it because it gives me a sense of royalty. I feel high and mighty when I am wearing it. I have never owned a pair of purplr shoes but I may invest in some.

Black is the ultimate because it does make me look slinder, I can wear the color with anything, and strangely enough, most of the "coolest" clothes are designed in that color.

2. When it comes to picking a favorite color I have a really hard time. As an aries I am drawn to fire colors like reds and burnt oranges. However, at times I am really partial to pink! I love greens, purples, yellows, and especially black. The only color I tend to avoid is blue, though I loooove turquoise, esp. turquoise accessories! My fave color combo is probably the contemporary black and white w/ red accents. I just love all colors, especially in nature. It would be impossible for me to pick a fave. If anyone loves color like me you should def check out colourlovers.com.....

3. Hi, Kiante. My favorite color is (Sapphire Blue). My horoscope is Virgo. Yes, my Birthday is coming up soon. Being that my skin has light golden brown skin tone; my colors that blend terrifically with my skin is tan, beige, green, and different shades of brown. In the summer time, I glow with radiance! I don't like white, purple, or yellow.

11. Now i don't mean to be rude but i think this summary could've been a lot more grammatically correct.
It's great that you are trying to feed people information, about the only OBVIOUS meanings of colors, but this is one of the most unprofessional aol exeprts i have ever read.
Maybe just slow down a little next time, take some time to read it over to yourself and maybe you'll catch those tiny yet critcal mistakes, that make the author seem a little, lets just say, unintelligent.

12. I love the brown family which includes yellow. Yellow is a very sexy color on me, beige and white as well.

13. Kiante,

This is Kisha Browne. We went to school together in NYC. I just saw you on WFAA here in Dallas like 2 weeks ago. I heard you went to Columbia but I didnt know it was like this. You are doing your thing. I went to your website and you are looking good.

i just looked at your articles. They are really good. I actually read a few already but I didnt notice your name. The articles in the style section are normally so boring and irrelevant but your articles are interesting.

By the way, I love black dresses! You know how I do. I am still a fashionista!

I am going to email your website.

Much success to you.

14. Any shade of brown (like me), will do me just fine;from dark mahogany, sienna, caramel,to the lightest shade brown. When a sister/brother wants to higlight her/his natural skin tone, a complimentary shade of brown paired with any color acessories will do the trick.Brown is alway the "new black". YOU GO BROWN.

Sweet Caroline at 4:29PM on Sep 7th 2008

15. My favorite is Purple. I've always thought it was so rich and pretty. I also think being it's my birthstone, I can be a little prejudice when it comes to that color. Although I have a thing for Purple, who does'nt like black? That is the ultimate of all colors!
