Oprah Winfrey: Turning 9/11 Into Gold?

Posted Aug 26th 2008 12:59PM by Brennan Williams
Filed under: Entertainment Newswire, Entertainment

By Brennan Williams, BlackVoices.com

With the seventh anniversary of the September 11th terror attacks approaching us within the next few weeks, media queen Oprah Winfrey reportedly has big plans to mark the day on a positive note.

According to 'The New York Post,' Winfrey is attempting to feature every American Olympic gold medalist from the recent Beijing games in support of her special September 11 show.

Now that's could be golden -- only if it was true.

Agents for several Olympic athletes including Ronda Rousey, who mentioned via her website that she would be participating in the show, were contacted by Winfrey's producers about taking part on the special.

Although the show has yet to be etched in stone, a spokesman for Winfrey allegedly told the 'Post' that the taping would center on the winning 36 gold medals at the Beijing Olympics instead of the remembering the September 11 attacks.

"Rather than focus on the tragedy of the attack seven years on, an Olympic-champions show would be an irresistible piece of patriotism - marking the day with a positive note."

In communicating to Blackvoices.com on Aug. 29, a rep for Harpo, Inc. said the previous reports were inaccurate and clarified that Winfrey "will feature 150 Olympic medalists on the season premiere that airs September 8."

Details for Sept. 11 show were not available at presstime.

2. If Oprah wanted to do a "Blockbuster 9-11" show, she'd invite the Bush Fly to explain our current political situation and why she became political. She'd explain how her leadership forum was invited to listen to a "Quasi-Liberal" and the ideas shared started a Youth Movement behind Obama. This Bush Fly just happens to be the same person who led the drive to impeach President Clinton and prevented Hillary from being "Inevitable." Now that's a blockbuster. If that's not enough we could talk about how campaign finance changed fundraising and Hollywood. By the grace of God, one person can make a difference.

3. Thought this would be of interest.

Since September 2001 I have maintained a free and confidential "9/11 list-serv".

The "9/11 list-serv" distributes daily e-mails containing newspaper articles and other relevant information re: 9/11 issues of interest to 9/11 families, 9/11 organizations and interested individuals.

The 9/11 List-serv archives can be accessed at http://groups.google.com/group/911-list-serv

5. I think too many people forget what happened on 9/11 and I think by not having a show about it your not honoring those who lost their lives... I love Micheal Phelps, but I love my fdny family more. I rather honor them on the 11th!

8. I think she should honor all of the US Medalists gold, silver and bronze. When you just honor the gold, it is like telling the others that they are losers. That is wrong.

13. I would like to see Oprah honoring our wonderful Olympic athletes, but not on 9/11. Yes, it is patriotic, but I think 9/11 should be observed, and respected, separately.
