Clear View: Sherri Shepherd Isn't Going Anywhere

Posted Aug 20th 2008 8:08AM by Jawn Murray
Filed under: BV Buzz

By Jawn Murray, BlackVoices.comThe hosts of 'The View'

On the heels of tabloid tales that Barbara Walters was planning to fire the newest of 'The View's' co-hosts Sherri Shepherd, ABC has unveiled the daytime chat show's latest promotional picture to promote the forthcoming fall season.

The image includes Walters, Shepherd, Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar and Elizabeth Hasselbeck in their first group photo shoot.

Last season's images were digitally superimposed to make it look as though they were all together.

Sherri Shepherd's Precious Times cover

The 'National Enquirer' was the originator of the erroneous report that claimed that the near-octogenarian Walters was offended by Shepherd's interview with the African-American Christian women's lifestyle magazine 'Precious Times.'

BV Buzz was the first to do a pickup on the intriguing cover story that included the Chicago-bred comedienne sharing her perspective on once being Jehovah's Witness, coming to terms with her prior promiscuity and having to defend Christianity on live television.

During the interview with 'Precious Times' publisher Marilyn J. White, Shepherd joked: "Oh sometimes I say, 'Lord, Juanita Bynum or Joyce Myers would be so good at this table. They could lay hands on Barbara Walters and get her saved.'"

That comment and the 'Who's Your Caddy' star's disclosure of multiple abortions created a whirlwind of media coverage on everything from 'Access Hollywood' to Fox News Channel and every blog and gossip column you can imagine.

The 41-year-old forSherri Shepherdmer 'Less Than Perfect' star, who recently hosted the Daytime Emmy Awards with 'All My Children's' Cameron Mathison, has become an easy target for online blogs and tabloid fodder because of her honesty on 'The View.'

From the very beginning of her tenure on the show in September of 2007, the almost-divorced mother of one came under scrutiny after a debate about Christianity with Walters and Goldberg was taken completely out of context and generated an onslaught of Jessica Simpson-like comparisons for Shepherd.

"I was so nervous and all I heard was how many triglycerides does it take to make Pluto to when the Robitussin comes. And I was like, 'I don't know.' And you have one of those senior, brain poopy moments. But Elisabeth looked at me and said, 'Sherri, you know the earth is round.' And I was like, 'I know the earth is round,' she explained then.

Regardless, ratings for 'The View' are higher than ever because of Shepherd and Goldberg and ABC executives anticipate the show will only get stronger and more exciting as the upcoming presidential election gets closer this fall.

1. Hello Sweet Sherri....we'all love you in Oklahoma. I've never missed a day since you and Whoopi joined the cast. Hugs to all you gal's....Keep entertaining us, it's the best 60 minutes of my morning.

Tina at 3:58PM on Aug 20th 2008

2. I love The View. I have been an avid watcher since the show started. However since Elizabeth Hasselbeck joined the show and the longer she is on, I watch less. She always seems to be the one in the center of the group's conflicts. She wants everyone to believe her views and have her opinion. The other hosts listen and let you have your opinion and them theirs and are able to discuss it nicely. She is the most self rightous person on the show and she has become 'ANNOYING'. If anyone is to go, Barbara should let her go. The last time I looked this is America and I should be able to have my opinion and not have someone argue till I change mine. She talks with very underlying opinions and judgment. Elizabeth, as a Christian you should watch how you speak to and of others!!!

Anna I. Carrasquillo at 4:03PM on Aug 20th 2008

3. I agree that Elizabeth does nothing for the show. She is very immature. Would like the show better without her. Love Joy, Whoopie, and Sherri!!!!!

Sandra Hunter at 4:08PM on Aug 20th 2008

4. Why because someone speaks candidly, especially a woman, everyone get's in an uproar. So she is honest, is that a reason to fire her. Hey, Barbara, clean your own back yard before you clean Sherri's. Remember what you admitted in your book, it doesn't sound as if you are squeaky clean.

Corinne Antoszewski at 4:11PM on Aug 20th 2008

5. Elzabeth Hasselbeck is the worst. She has "diarhhea of the mouth" no brains, no substance, and makes watching The View extremely unpleasant. I do not watch it any more. Get rid of ignorant Hasselbeck, and I might reconsider.

Suz at 4:12PM on Aug 20th 2008

6. Hey, leave Elizabeth alone. Why can't she give her opinion like everyone else does. You don't have to agree with her. I don't think anyone on that show dresses nice, but that is their style.

Corinne Antoszewski at 4:17PM on Aug 20th 2008

7. If anybody should get the ax..... it should be Hasselbeck. I wonder if she looks in the mirror before she walks out on stage

Jenny Parsons at 4:18PM on Aug 20th 2008

8. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE......Barbara, if anyone should go please let it be Elizabeth. She is going to distroy the show. I know alot of people that won't watch the show because of her. She is such a big mouthed idiot. I am so surprised she hasn't been decked on the show. She has no idea what she is talking about. Everyone has their own opinion but she is ridiculous. So Please Barbara, get rid of her not anyone else.

Patty at 4:18PM on Aug 20th 2008

9. I agree with the others Elizabeth gets on my nerves, I try very hard to tune her out. She is self righteous and is very quick to pick out minor mistakes of others and blow them up. Her time has come and gone. Barbara and Gerry if you are looking to empty a chair Elizabeth is the one to go!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yolandra at 4:19PM on Aug 20th 2008

10. What did people honestly expect from Hasselbeck when she got the gig?

Zero marketable skills, she is completely devoid of any talent. Remember folks, her claim to fame is that she is a former gameshow contestant who is banging a backup NFL quarterback. She has always been and will always be nobody.

Bob Barker at 4:21PM on Aug 20th 2008

11. I agree on Elizabeth Hasselbeck, she is way too self centered. I recently have been frequently watching and it seems as if Joy Behar wants to reach across the table and smack her, by some of the glances and gestures observed. I dont wish violence on anyone, but seriously someone needs to shut down the mightier than thou attitude of Elizabeth. She ruins the show.
It's called the VIEW, not the Elizabeth hour of power.

Tammy Campbell at 4:21PM on Aug 20th 2008

12. You bunch of liberal idiots.

G T Mcfarland at 4:21PM on Aug 20th 2008

13. I can not stand the View. After the deal with Star Jones then Rosie (both who I couldnt stand) Im just done with the View. These 2 people just ruined it for me can't stand to watch it any longer. Do like Elizabeth.

Patti at 4:21PM on Aug 20th 2008

14. Please do us all a favor and get rid of Miss Prissy Hasselbeck. I don't even watch the show anymore. She is such a spoiled brat. Sherri is funny and I love her. Like one of the other comments those of you who want to clean others back door mats best make sure yours is clorox clean. Again, Elizabeth needs the pink slip.

Lynne Wayman at 4:23PM on Aug 20th 2008

15. Get rid of Elizabeth. I hate your show since she is on. Very seldom watch anymore with her there. I was a daily fan before.

Robin Greenaff at 4:23PM on Aug 20th 2008
