Greg Halstead: 'Real World' Housemate Gets Raw About His Roommates

Posted Jul 24th 2008 12:12AM by Jawn Murray
Filed under: BV Buzz

By Jawn Murray, BlackVoices.comGreg Halstead

Greg Halstead was kicked off of 'The Real World: Hollywood' in episode eight after being fired by the improvisation company where the cast was hired to work for allegedly missing a number of performances and rehearsals.

The 21-year-old aspiring model and actor confessed during a candid phone interview that he was shocked that he was sent home and does not believe his firing was warranted.

"I didn't expect to get kicked out of the house for that foolishness," he began. "Honestly, an interesting fact is that no 'Real World' cast member in the history of the show has gotten fired and kicked off. There have been two house members fired and 'Real World' or MTV chose to accommodate them on both occasions and provide them with another job so that they could stay on the show. Ironically, this show, they chose not to do that for whatever reason. There's definitely something weird going on there."

The Daytona Beach, Florida native said he can't come up with any rationale for why the show producers didn't allow him to stay.

"I don't know what it is," he pondered. "I don't know if it's because I was using them more than they were using me, in the sense that I was out in Hollywood pursuing a career and I wasn't really giving the improv any true effort. It's just so weird how I got kicked off. I was late to a practice, not like I didn't go there. I missed one show that we were supposed to watch on the first day of the class, which to me, was like, 'hey, you could have said it was mandatory.' Then, I missedGreg Halstead another show. That's three infractions and one of them wasn't even an infraction because I was late. We also got penalized for being late. We would get docked money from our weekly stipend so it was like you're getting punished for it already. There's bigger things that were going on and I don't understand it because I was picked by the people. So MTV says, 'hey guys, spend two months of your lives on this site voting for the top person who you want to see on the show' and then they kicked me out for nothing. I didn't get it, I don't get it now, and I'm not trying to get it so that's why my relationship with Bunim/Murray is non-existent."

Halstead skipped 'The Real World: Hollywood' cast reunion episode that aired recently and vows to never participate in any future Bunim/Murray-produced franchises.

"I won't be on any the 'Real World/Road Rules' challenges or nothing," he declared. "The only thing I'm doing potentially is the MTV Video Music Awards after I finish doing movies and things like that, which I have in the works now. That will be the only thing I'll be doing. There will be no reunion shows, no ' Hollywood: Two Years Later' or none of that. There's nothing between me and Bunim/Murray anymore. They trashed me out, did me wrong. I know they did me wrong. Everyone in the world thinks that was the most ridiculous trash in the world so they don't explain themselves and think they can do anything they want to do. Now, they're begging me to do the reunion show and I'm like, 'I don't need you so no, I'm not doing it.'"

KimberlyAnd if it appears that Halstead doesn't mince words in regard to 'The Real World's' producers, the mere mention of his roommates has him lashing out.

Kimberly: "A straight-up clown! She's a racist. Foolish. Ugly. Hypocrite. Cock-Blocker. Big Mouth. That's about it."

Dave: "Napoleonic complex. As [the finale] will show you, he's all talk and no back up. He's always telling Daveme, 'Oh you're 6'2 or 6'5, black and you don't understand I'll whip your ass.' [That] episode detailed how much of a Tom he is."

Sarah: "The biggest hypocrite of the house. Everything she did and was just hypocritical. I don't know if you remember, but she called her mom about Bri having sex in that bed and crying. Kim and Dave had sex in that bed. They had sex like rabbits and obviously Sarah never chose to call her mom about them or ask them about it. Again, she is just the biggest hypoSarahcrite that was ever created. She's self righteous and all that stuff."

Brianna: "She's very two-faced to me. I don't really like her. She just is always threatening to beat someone's ass and all this other trash and she doesn't do anything. I don't believe in talking if you're not gonna do anything. Clearly we know that you're not supposed to fight on the show so I don't understand why people just love talking about fighting. It's just ignorant to me. So she was aggravating. She definitely cock-blocked me on a couple of occasions. Again, she's always trying to be cool with Kim and Sarah even though they just bash Brianaher out all the time behind her back. She was just really stupid. Brianna looks worse than an albino in real life, actually. She does have a very albino appeal. When she takes off her makeup, it's like a horror show. Her makeup keeps her looking decent. When you see her in confessionals on the show, she's always made up with heavy makeup. When we saw her without the makeup, she's really pale. She looks so weird when she takes off all of her makeup. I thought the female cast members this season were atrocious. I've seen the other seasons and there was always at least one female who was attractive to society standards. This show is just tWillerrible and Sarah was the most decent looking one, but she was like the mother of Mary."

Will: "Out of all the characters, I probably dislike him the most. He's just very phony and very fake. He's a compulsive liar. He just says one thing and does another all the time. He's just very funny. I told him at the beginning of the show that he was a player. It was just me and him talking so it wasn't like I was blowing up his spot. He was like, 'No, I like girls and I wanna be in love. I'm into the moral relationship thing.' But then, he's out here trashing out, having threesomes and foursomes and cheating on Janelle. It's like, dude, 'come on.'"

The only roommate tJoeyhat Halstead does have positive reflections of is Joey, who went into rehab for drug and alcohol abuse during the series.

"Joey is misunderstood, crazy, fun, honest and loyal," he offered.

But now that the show is over and Halstead is back to "reality," would he participate in 'The Real World: Hollywood ' if he had it to do all over again?

"I would do the show again the exact same way," he affirmed.

Moving forward, Halstead said he has a modeling show in development – "My modeling show is going to be similar to 'America's Next Top Model,' but for men," he offered – and is auditioning for film and TV roles.

He is also the new young adult advocate to The Damon and Stella Foundation, which increases awareness of mental health illnesses and suicide prevention.

"I'll be on 'Oprah' in September to talk about the foundation," he revealed.

1. Jawn,

Great interview of Greg and the reason I feel he was dismissed and backed up by Will is that Greg verbally abused a director.

I will post about this on Friday and link back here.

2. GREG, IT WAS ABOUT YOUR ARROGANCE AND YOUR UNWILLNESS TO PARTICIPATE WITH YOUR ROOMMATE THAT IS WHY YOU GOT KICKED OFF THE SHOW. THE SHALLOWNESS GREG GAVE OFF ON THE SHOW MADE ALL HIS ROOMMATE TURN AGAINST HIM. GREG I JUST THINK IT'S TIME FOR YOU TO GET OVER YOURSELF AND CHECK THE SUAVENESS AND SMOOTHNESS AT THE DOOR, GREG SORRY TO INFORM YOU BUT YOUR FIFTEEN MINUTES OF FAME IS UP.

LORRAINE at 2:56PM on Jul 24th 2008

3. Opportunities like the Real World don't come up often. If he was supposed to be at rehearsals and performances and decided to not attend, then he deserved to be fired and kicked off. It's your job and plus you're getting paid for it. No excuses. He screwed up.

5. It seems as if everyone had a problem but Mr. Perfect. Seems as if he needs a reality check. I wonder if he got a real job what excuse he would use for being late or not showing up at all? Wake up and smell the coffee. The world doesn't revolve around you. The Real World didn't stop because you left the show.

Ray Williams at 4:50AM on Jul 25th 2008

6. Greg will never get any work with that attitude. No one wants to work with someone who thinks they know everything and are better than everyone. He took no responsibility for the immature things he did on the show. America dosen't care anymore Greg. It's over.

7. Initially I thought that Greg was kicked off because he was arrogant..a prick…difficult.not liked…I could go on and on..but you get it..But that can’t be it. These are all things that actually would have made the show a little more interesting. Not really sure what it was. Racial?..Humm..Either way..With his attitude…Even though I didn’t think he’s actions warranted him being kicked off the show..I really couldn’t care less. BTW..Someone please tell that boi that he is not as phine as he thinks he is. Yes he has a beautiful body..a beautiful complexion..But something about the symmetry of his eyes..nose..and the shape of his head is just off to me. And that goofy smile!! Cut it out already..Oh yeah..and cut out the Zoolander pout and butch it up little bit…And ummm…A little easier on the air brushing buddy…

BTW..This was the worst Real World ever. Never have I ever gotten to the end of the season and go..”What really just happened here”. A total waste of a seaon.

PS..Thanks Jawn..This had been laying heaving on my heart..

9. I have one word: BITTER. He had all negative things to say and to me that says something about his character. Enjoyed the last video though!

10. i'm sooooo out of the loop when it comes to "the real world"....and proud of it!!!
read the headline and thought maybe it was referring to an old roommate...and i see and read about this whiny clown!
granted it's tough to comment because i've never seen the season.but he sounds like a whiny, vindictive loser!
the fact of the matter is,and past seasons have proven this, the series is a jump off for people who not only have the looks but talent.whether you have a side gig or not...so if he had a side job when he should have been doing what he was suppose to be doing.i have no synpathy for him.c'mon now! you had your 15 minutes (or half that)keep it movin' and stop being a whiny asshole.
it's already an established fact they cast assholes on the show for a better dynamic...which means YOU WERE AN ASSHOLE TOO!
it's all about whose the bigger or cooler asshole...shit! "the real world" ceased to be cool after season 3..and un-interesting after season 5.

11. GREG WAS ARROGANT HE ACTUALLY GOT WHAT HE DESERVED, AND TALKING SOMEONE THAT'S AN ALBINO IS NOT NICE BECAUSE I HAVE 2 BEAUTIFUL ALBINO GRAND BABIES AND I LOVE THEM ADN THEY ARE ADORABLE, YOU SHOULD'VE SAID ALL THAT WHEN U WERE IN THE HOUSE WHEN YOU WERE THERE THE CLASS CLOWN FELL IN UR LAP, WHO STOLE SOME GIRL PANTIES JUST 2 HIDE THEM WHAT DOES THAT SAY ABOUT YOU THANKS

ELOISE at 11:37AM on Jul 26th 2008

12. greg was the epitome of a waste of sperm and an egg.

and if you watched the show, you saw how degrading he was to his female roommates. granted, they were all a mess, but that's not the point. and he's talking about how they weren't pretty based on society's standards, that chick "reva" he chose to be with was a steaming bowl of mess.

i agree with him on joey though. joey was a really good guy, and he was cute, i'm happy he's getting his life together.

14. Young man you are so full of yourself....I have watched real world since the time you were outside playing kickball and on a male cast member perspective...you dont look all that hot either. You are just getting into making it in the entertainment business and already dogging people. You wont go far with the negativity.

shay at 1:04PM on Jul 26th 2008

15. If he had so much to say and he's so confident and all that... why didn't he show up at the reunion? Who's really all talk????
