Stuntin' In Your Stunnas!

Posted Jul 23rd 2008 10:51PM by Kiante Young
Filed under: Lifestyle, Style Spotter

It has been said that the eyes are the window to the soul. What happens when you want to close that window? Just put on a pair of shades.

The ultimate accessory, sunglasses, shades or as we call them in the hood, stunners can take your outfit to a whole 'nother level.

Creating mystery and partial anonymity, stunners are instant confidence boosters. You ever notice that people who have on shades hold their head just a little bit higher?

Shades also can hide red-eyes, black eyes and sleepy eyes. Amazingly though the Chinese had other uses for them.

According to 100 Inventions That Shaped The World by Bill Yenne and, Panati's Extraordinary Origins of Everyday Things by Charles Panati, Chinese judges used smoke-colored quartz lenses to conceal the expressions of their eyes in court in the 1300's.

In 1430, vision-correcting darkened eyeglasses were used to fix vision impairments. These were brought to China from Italy.

In 1752, James Ayscough invented glassed with hinges then went on to create glasses with blue and green tinted lenses.

In 1929, Sam Foster, founder of the Foster Grant company sold the first pair of Foster Grant sunglasses on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City, NJ and the rest is history. The first polarized sunglasses become in 1936 when Ray Ban began using Edwin H. Land Polaroid filter to reduce glare from the sun.

From Prada to Sean John, every major clothing lines has its own line to hater blockers. Check out the pictures below and let us know which pair of shades tickles your fancy.

Fellas by the way, make sure you get shades that fit your face and when people do things to get you down, just put on your hater blockers, hold your head up high and keep on grinding!

1. There is just one pair of shades worth wearing.RAY-BAN! Anything else is just a waist of dough. I have been wearing them since the 60's when I stole my first pair from where I got fired the only time in my life at Bonwit-Teller in Manhasset LI. When I left and went on to the salt mines at least I had 15 pairs of them.Today,I have 4 pair that I actually spent the c-note or better for.[Thank God for Macy's Platinum charge card]

3. Damn Diddy is fly. I hate thqat negro but he can sure dress nice. I like the Prada shades and i like the Oakleys. The Aviators are cool too but I had them when i was younger.

Way back in the day. Man can yall donate some shades to my I-need-shades-fund? Cause I went to sunglass hut and the shades are so expensive.

6. These glasses are all the same style, just different names stuck on them. Glasses need to be made that protects your eyes from the top, the sides, or any direction. Why do you think that at 40yrs everyone has glaucoma and cataracts?

Alexis at 8:49PM on Jul 26th 2008

7. It seems like these blacks would get it though their heads, that there are no new styles under the sun. What here today, has been worn before. The gangster look is as old as the hills. Prada is nothing but a knock-off. Can't get what you want from Chinese Wal-Marts. Oh, how they run there though!

8. Versace frames are the way to go for people with wide faces

9. My people, my people, my people....When are you gonna realize how enslaved you are to the enrichment of the White designer? You go out and buy all this crap because "so and so" is wearing it, or because somebody says it's what they wear, or because some magazine told you it's the "hip new thing", and you wonder why we have no real power or wealth in our communities. We'll live in a project, but go buy a Benz we have to hide at night from the re-po man! We'll run and buy the latest, most expensive cell phones to "floss" even tho we don't have a damn job to pay the bill! We'll put $5,ooo into wheels, and sound systems for a $100 car so we can rattle down the street and be heard for blocks. Wake the hell up!
Ghetto "Fabulous" ain't fabulous in the least - it's a condition. One that makes you consume worthless sh*t that only makes someone else even richer. And that someone else looks nothing like you, nor has any use for you, except to buy their junk. Prada, Gucci, none of them would even consider giving you a job! They're playin' you for what you are - poor bama's tryin' to fake bein' rich. Suckers.

10. Warren you are so bold but telling the God honest truth.

Diamond at 10:00PM on Jul 28th 2008

11. Um.. why do you negroes get so antsy about spending a little money. I drive a Benz and the repo man aint coming for me. My car is paid for. I dont live in the projects but the building i live looks just like a project building. To be real with you.. I wish i lived in the projects so my rent would be cheaper. Also I wear expensive clothes and no name clothes. Nothing wrong with buying something nice.

Warren you are just another uptight negro who is still mad at all the beatings you got in elementary school. This brother who wrote this article dropped some knowledge on where shades came from. You didnt even mention that. Too busy criticizing.

Negroes talk about blacks doing this and blacks doing that like white people dont make the same mistakes..

Its the whole country is living above their means not just black people.

So Warren. Get a life and some Prada shades. Probably cant afford it.

Jan Jan in the house!
