A-Rod Looks Beyond Baseball, Jeter Understands

Posted Jul 23rd 2008 11:27AM by Quibian Salazar-Moreno
Filed under: Casually Obsessed

According to the Wall Street Journal, Yankees star Alex Rodriguez has signed an agreement with the William Morris Agency, a huge talent agency the represents folks like Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe, along with Serena Williams, Kevin Garnett, and Dwyane Wade. Is A-Rod trying to get into acting? Maybe record an album?

"Partnering with William Morris will enable me to broaden the scope of my career in creative and innovative ways," Rodriguez said in a statement. "I'm excited to see what we will be able to accomplish together, both domestically and abroad."A-Rod won't comment anymore on the deal, but his teammate, Derek Jeter, totally understands the move. Athletes nowadays need more representation than just a sports agent.

"Now, there's more attention. There's more media attention on everyone," Jeter told the Associated Press. "In the past I think athletes played sports and that was it. You played your game and you didn't really see them much away from the field, court, whatever their sport of choice was. Now, like you say, you've got athletes endorsing things. I mean, all that's changed over the last 20 or so years. It probably all started with MJ. Now you've got athletes doing all kinds of different things."
