Style Spotted: 2008 ESPY Awards

NFL champ Michael Strahan wih gf Nicole Murphy

The 2008 ESPY Awards ran on ESPN tonight and it was no sursprise that Tiger Woods and the NY GIANTS were the biggest winners of the night. Held at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles last Wednesday, the red carpet arrivals to the event dubbed the 'Oscars for the sports industry,' had a bevy of winners and losers as well in terms of their style.

For the most part the male athletes were pretty conservative in their dark custom-made or designer suits and they let their female counterparts do the talkin'. Boston Celtics' NBA Champs Ken Garnett's wife popped in canary yellow while other opted for classic white: host Justin Timberlake in a white tux, NFLer Terrell Owens in a cool suit with black trim and Rajon Rodo too had a black trim white suit but wore a deep red tie for added effect.

NBA star Carmelo Anthony kept it light in a grey three-piece and two-time ESPY winner Candace Parker from the WNBA was flawless in a satin and crepe buttercream floor-length gown. It's not often you get to see a woman over 6 feet get it right. But no hands down Eddie Murphy's ex-wife Nicole Murphy paramour to NY GIANTS' Michael Strahan totally worked it as did Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham in her pale yellow Roland Mouret. She served major attitude with handsome hubby David Beckham by her side.

The Totally Missed It list includes presenter/R&B star Ashanti's print maxidress which was a bit too casual and felt oddly out of place, Samuel Jackson (surprised?) in his bebop white hat, grey & white outfit and and sneakers.

Hello?

This is the one night you wouldnt catch these ballers in trainers so the same rule should have applied to Sam J as well. And the biggest miss was Shaun Phillips' gold three-piece suit.

All he needed was an iced out goblet, walking cane and Bootsy Collins sunglasses and he certainly would have been the perfect hangman in pimp Don "Bishop" Juan's crew.

1. the epys were ok...i guess. how did john lester not win any type of award. the guy lived through a disease with no cure and came back throw a no-no. sure hamiltons was great and it was one of the most amazing combacks i ever saw, however lesters most likely brought people to tears!! and the little league team from georgia with the walk off HR couldve clearly won three awards, best championship performance, best game, and best finish. and i blame the fans completely. yeah, timberlake was fine but couldnt an athlete lke oden (who was hilarious the entire time) or will ferrell couldve done it. Did anyone mention super bowl ratings were an all time low? so why did everyone vote for the giants on everything? and is candace parker a pro athlete or college athlete? she should definitely only win one of those awards! dont get me wrong, i love candace and she had a great comeback to with her should injury then comin back to help her team. but she is either a pro or college athlete, whitch means should win either the pro or college best female athlete award, period. however, it was one of the most inspiring things to see mr. kevin evertte walking across hat stage less then a year after breaking his neck. he completel deserved that award. why in the world did tom brady win best NFL player? u gave every other award to the giants, why not that one? both of the athletes who had disiblites had truly sad stories that i couldnt believe. there are very few people in the world like them. so the espys were just ok but couldve been soooo much better.
