Healthy Hair Trend - Steaming

Yhst5595168724967_2007_125883255 What is it: A method of deep conditioning.

How to do it: Apply conditioner to wet or dry hair. Cover with wet towel and plastic cap. Sit under a steamer, heat cap or additional hot towel. Use with a deep conditioner to moisturize and strengthen the hair.

Benefits: Hair is more moisturized and softer. Curls become more defined.

How it Works: The steam heat raises the cuticle and allows the conditioner to penetrate easier.

Ready to start steaming? Here are some options:

For serious steamers - check out a stand alone professional steamer. They usually run around $200 but you may be able to find a deal on Ebay or Craigslist. It's actually a pretty good investment if you have a house full of women or have a small salon.

For the occasional steamer - try to locate a salon in your area that uses steam treatments or pick up a table top steamer or steam cap for home use.

Not sure yet?? Create a makeshift steam treatment but covering head with a hot wet towel, plastic cap and sit under a dryer and see how you like it!

Hope this helps! As always, you can find more tips at Healthy Textures or on our Social Network (over 3800 members to date).

1. This is amazing!Everything old certainly at one point, becomes new again. The elder women in my family used to do this years ago. In fact, any old jar(80's) of high end conditioner, will suggest this as a hair tip! Go figure...

2. I read some article on this at http://www.latest-hairstyles.com and they didn't recommend it because of some issue I forgot what. Does anyone have any reviews on this or another opinion. My hair gets really dry and if this works I will be more than happy to try it while I am watching tv.

6. I tried a variation of this last night and IT WAS WONDERFUL!!!! I soaked a medium to large size towel in spring water, and wrapped it around my head which was lathered in conditioner. I then took a plastic cap or a large plastic bag depending on the size of the towel and wrapped it over the towel. I have a professional grade hooded dryer, so I had sat under it with both the towel and the plastic bag for a little over 30 minutes.
MY HAIR WAS SOOOO SOFT, SILKY AND MANAGEABLE. No dryness at all even today (the day after) my hair feels WONDERFUL. I would recommend every one try this ESPECIALLY those with dry/natural/processed hair. IT WORKS!!! I wish I had known about this sooner. I will do this EVERYTIME I wash my hair. By the way, I don't use shampoo. I conditioner wash only.
