'The View' host Sherri Shepherd covers the latest issue of 'Precious Times' magazine.

In an eight-page feature story in the Christian women's lifestyle publication, the 41-year-old comedienne shares candid revelations about her faith, including her conversion from being a Jehovah's Witness to Christianity.

"Before I converted to Christianity, I was a Jehovah's Witness. In 1993, my mother was dying from diabetic complications. My sister was heavy into drugs, and we would have to go and get her from crack houses. I was in a very physically abusive relationship. I was sleeping with a lot of guys and had more abortions than I would like to count. I had very low self-esteem and just wanted to die. I felt if someone killed me, it wouldn't even make a difference. But God showed me that it would make a difference," she told the glossy.

The Chicago-native, who is currently Sherri Shepherd on the red carpet at the 'Daytime Emmy Awards'embroiled in a divorce and custody battle with her husband Jeffrey Tarpley, also confessed that it is hard being taken to task about her faith on the live ABC talk show.

"Oh sometimes I say, 'Lord, Juanita Bynum or Joyce Myers would be so good at this table. They could lay hands on Barbara Walters and get her saved,'" she declared. "I ask the Lord, 'Why am I here?' I have to trust God when He says, 'Because I said so.'"

The former 'Less Than Perfect' star, fresh off a hosting stint at the 'Daytime Emmy Awards,' has lost more than 30 pounds after being diagnosed as a diabetic.

"One day on 'The View' I noticed that we had a lot of big girls in the audience," she recalled. "I told them to stick around because we were going to have a large woman fashion show. They looked at me and said, 'Sherri, you are not a big girl.' I was so embarrassed. However, a lot of women look at me and say I give them hope. I really want them to be healthy. We carry sixty extra pounds on our joints when we're overweight. Some things are just not okay."

In addition to hosting 'The View,' Shepherd will voice two characters in 'Madagascar's' sequel, 'Madagascar: The Crate Escape.' She also appears in Lee Daniels' forthcoming film, 'Push,' which stars Mo'Nique, Lenny Kravitz and Paula Patton.

1. ...I had very low self-esteem and just wanted to die. I felt if someone killed me, it wouldn't even make a difference. But God showed me that it would make a difference," she told the glossy.

Sherry, you are a living testimony to the omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscience grace of God Almighty, All-Beautiful, All-Knowing, All-Wise. Sometimes, we have to make our beds in Hell before we realize from whence our help comes. It comes from God, and you are a shining example of his loving kindness, mercy and forgiveness. Despite the fact that you are a self-confessed serial murderess (multiple abortions), a fornicator, and have committed a host of other sinful acts, the Lord forgave you and loves you. He gave you a truly blessed life, including a beloved son and a tremendously successful career. The best Christian leads by example. People can look at you, and see, that no matter what they might be involved in currently, that they, too, can be saved. It doesn't matter if you are a drug-addicted, fornicating, lying, thieving, good-for-nothing, come on over to the Potter's House. He will put your life back together again. I wish you continued success. Glory to God!

Peace and Blessings!

4. Sherri
God know just where you are.
For He is the one that has brought you this far.
You are just where He wants you to be.
For it is in you, Christ others will see.
You are heeding His call.
For without Him, we are nothing at all.
Just don't get wrapped up in things of this world.
Becaus He is using you Girl!

5. I really respect and admire this woman's honesty. It really gives a lot of hope to women facing similar issues. This comes from a non-Christian who does believe in God. What religion we are is irrelevant as long as whatever path we follow brings us closer to where we need to be.

Alexandra at 3:48PM on Jul 18th 2008

6. "Before I converted to Christianity, I was a Jehovah's Witness "

Jehovha Witnesses ARE Christians.
I do not agree with their form of christianity, but they are Christians.

7. I watch that show all the time and don't remember some of the things in this story. What a life. You never know and it could explain why she holds so tight to her relligion. Glad she found her way to the View, because she needed a break and I have to admit that sometimes she pops out with something that has me cracking up and we all need that occasional good laugh.

georgii1 at 3:56PM on Jul 18th 2008

8. I don't know why Sherri says she converted TO Christianity. Jehovah's Witnesses ARE Christians. All she did was change brand names so to speak. I know it's fashionable for ex-JW's to malign their former faith as non-christian but I come from a mixed family of Catholics, JW's and Protestants and they are ALL Christians. Of course, they each think they have a lock on the "truth" which is part of the problem here. The interesting thing is that all the bad behavior she described would never have been tolerated in a Jehovah's Witness congregation and she would have lost her membership for her refusal to repent. It's called "Disfellowshipping" and it's done as a last resort after much counseling and intervention. It's done with love although it may not seem that way AND to protect the other members from her obvious bad influence. perhaps she "converted" because she was disfellowshipped (politely told nobody in the congregation would associate with her although she would have been welcome to attend public meetings) and didn't want to do what she was told she must to regain entry into her congregation. Sounds to me like there's a lot she's leaving out for convenience. To my mind, calling any other Christian not a Christian is sinful and she should lay off her former congregation when talking about her new "better" version of Christianity. I wish her well though. I'm sure it isn't easy finding your way back to God after everything she says she's done.

9. Sheri,
It's wonderful to hear how God has really changed your life but it's also great to hear you speak openly about how he has helped you. You are doing exactly what God has planned for you. We all have to have the bad to appreciate the good but we don't see that at the time in our "dark" times. God Bess you.

Rosie at 4:00PM on Jul 18th 2008

10. Dear Sherri
I gave 43 yers of my life to Jehovah's Witnesses, all the time thinking I had and was in the only "truth". My husband and son both served prison sentences because of the draft issue in World War 2 and Vietnam. They taught us to be poor citizens.
Thankfully a Christian shared the gospel with us and the whole family was saved and like you I want to tell the world about Jesus Saves and the gospel I preach is just that not fear about the end of the world. If you ever come to Spring Hill Florida I would love to have you speak at my church. Peace and blessings for you always
Diane

11. I am very awe inspired by your committment to change and many people need to take some of the same approaches that you did to better their lives. I do have a concern about the fact that you blame your fathers religion on your mishaps in life. I would like to clarify, If you were not batized, you were not a Jehovahs Witness, you were just the child of one. Also, Jehovah Witnesses are CHRISTIANS, they do believe in Jesus Christ. It's ok that you did not accept the religion many do not for whatever reason, but please do not have people thinking that it is the fault of the religion that you made ill fated mistakes and had a very hard life. This is coming from a child of a Jehovahs Witness!

mcj at 4:02PM on Jul 18th 2008

12. I am truly glad that you turned your life around from the negative to the positive and many women and men need to have the ambition and drive that you have to conquer their demons as you did. But, I truly have a problem with the fact that you blame your fathers religious preference for your mishaps in life. Just to clarify things if you were not baptized you were not a Jehovahs Witness, you were the child of one. Additionally, Jehovah Witnesses are CHRISTIANS they do believe in Jesus Christ. No the religion may not be for you and that is your preference but again please do not blame the religion for anything that you may have went through or your ill fated mistakes. People look up to people they see on television and believe what they read and what they hear, so please clarify your statement. This is coming from a child of a Jehovahs Witness.

mcj at 4:05PM on Jul 18th 2008

13. More abortions than she can count? That's abortions rights for ya. If you dont want it, just suck it out through a straw and into a jar. Nice, Sherry. Thanks for sharing.

kimba at 4:08PM on Jul 18th 2008

14. Hi.....Could someone fill me in on what is going on with Sherri's marriage? I know that about a year ago she caught her husband having an affair and they separated. Then several months later she gave good news on the show that she and her husband had reconciled and that they were getting back together. That was the last I had heard until this article. Does anyone have more information on this? Thank you

Katie at 4:09PM on Jul 18th 2008

15. TO SHERRI.
JEHOVAH'S WELL AWARE OF YOUR STRUGGLES AS A NORMAL INDIVIDUAL.. HE HAS DELIVERED COUNTLESS OF HIS SERVANTS FROM THE THINGS YOU HAVE DESCRIBED,AND FROM THE QUOTED STATEMENTS FROM YOUR INTERVIEW.
AS ONE OF JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES WHO HAS BEEN SHOWN HIS MERCY AND DELIVERANCE AND THAT HAS TASTED THE "GOODNESS OF JEHOVAH",
I WILL SAY THAT " THE SCENE OF THIS WORLD IS CHANGING,AND HE THAT DOES THE WILL OF JEHOVAH, IS THE ONE BEING SAVED"
