Sanaa Lathan & Nia Long: All In The 'Family'

Two of the most beautiful actresses in black Hollywood are getting a bit animated with their next gigs.

Sanaa Lathan and Nia Long are on board for 'The Cleveland Show,' a spin-off of the popular very adult-friendly animated series 'The Family Guy.'

Earlier this week, casting was announced for the show, which will center around the character Cleveland Brown – which is voiced by white actor Mike Henry.Lathan, who starred in films such as 'Brown Sugar' and 'Love & Basketball' will play Cleveland's wife, Donna, while Long, who starred in last season's ABC drama series 'Big Shots,' will voice the character of rebellious stepdaughter Roberta.

Set to debut next year, 'Cleveland' follows the Browns as they move to Cleveland's Virginia hometown and encounter neighbors including a "redneck" named Lester, a family of bears and a British family enamored with the Victorian era.

In a colorblind casting move, black actor Kevin Michael Richardson will play the part of Lester.

"Clearly, the idea was just to make an ethnically diverse show in front of and behind the camera, which we are," and to create a largely African-American cast for the Brown family, Fox network programming chief Kevin Reilly told reporters during a Television Critics Association meeting this week.

1. Interesting that a white person voices a black character and a black person voices a white redneck. I love Family Guy so it's a no-brainer that this will also be a hit.

2. I CANNOT WAIT! I love Family Guy and I know this one is going to be soooooo fuunny.

3. I love Family Guy! It will be interesting to see how the voice of the baby of The Cleveland Show will be. Even though I think this show will be on the so-so side, I know for a fact that there isn't another animated baby out there that is in the running with Stewie.

4. You poll is insufficient. I do not think folks will tune in because Sanaa (my favorite actress) and Nia are behind the scenes. I think they will tune in if the show is funny. I think it will be funny and I also predict there will be some overly sensitive Black folks that will bellyache about the show.

6. Sannaa Lathan is very beautiful. Nia Long looks like she is trying out for M tv's Tila Tiquilla.

7. Nothing is as good as an original..I won't watch the show because two "beautiful women" are behind the scenes, but because Cleveland & the other characters are funny, too. Question is..can Cleveland & family be as funny as Stewie n'nem?

8. The Family Guy is the most antichristin cartoon I have ever seen, whom ever is writing those antichristian remarks in that cartoon should be brought up on hate crime charges.

9. I'm pysched about the show, but why does one of the kids look like a young black version of Peter Griffin? Come on now!

Msongbird at 3:38PM on Jul 20th 2008

10. "8. The Family Guy is the most antichristin cartoon I have ever seen, whom ever is writing those antichristian remarks in that cartoon should be brought up on hate crime charges."

I have to agree some of the antics are very disrespectful to Christians. However, they are disrespectful, to women, dogs, chickens, old folks, black, whites, hispanics, muslims, Jews, you name it and they have probably picked fun at it or them maybe I should say. I watch the show because I think it's funny...Not every thing, but some of the things they do on that show are hilarious...but I know what to laugh at and what to frown on...I treat the show like I do life.

Jones at 4:47PM on Jul 20th 2008

11. My question is - what is the real story line - because on the family guy Clevland was already married to loretta....but they got a divorce because Loretta had sex with another man -- 'Quagmire" giggity giggity goo....so what ever happened to Clevland junior...does he go with his mother Loretta...isnt this just like a black man to just start up a new family outta the blue....lol....i think in the later episodes Loretta should come back...and wreak havoc on Clevlandand his new familys life...because if the show is going to be true to life...the ex always come back with drama and shenanigans and tomfoolery....( especially black women)....lol

15. Actually Cleveland Jr.is on the show he is the short fat round kid. I hope Peter is on the show because Cleveland pretty boring without him.In my opinion Loretta and Cleveland shouldn't never had broken up.I want to start my own black family guy show but now maybe just put it in a comicbook.
