Posted Jul 11th 2008 1:12PM by Wilson Morales
Filed under: It's All Reel

If you are looking to be among the first people to 'The Secret Life of Bees', which stars Jennifer Hudson, Dakota Fanning, Queen Latifah, Alicia Keys, and Sophie Okonedo, you will have to get a ticket at the Toronto Film Festival, where it will make its world premiere.

Also featured in the film are Tristan Wilds, Nate Parker, Paul Bettany, and Hilarie Burton.

The festival will run from September 4 through September 13. Also showing there will be Spike Lee's 'Miracle at St. Anna', and Guy Ritchie's 'RocknRolla' with Idris Elba and Thandie Newton.

Directed by Gina Prince Bythewood, the film is based on a 2002 bestselling novel by American author Sue Monk Kidd.

Set in South Carolina in 1964, story centers on Lily Owens (Fanning), who escapes her lonely life and troubled relationship with her father by running away with her caregiver and only friend (Hudson) to a South Carolina town that holds the secret to her mother's past.Latifah, Okonedo and Keys play the three sisters

1. I can't wait to see this film! It seems to have Oscar written all over it. With two Oscar nominess (Queen Latifah and Sophie Okenedo) and one Oscar Winner (Jennifer Hudson). It should be a shoe in for a ton of oscar nominations for the cast, including Best Director, Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and for of course, the acting by Latifah, Fanning, Okenedo,Paul Bentney,Hudson and even Alicia Keys could snag a nomination as well. I don't know if the performances will be lead or supporting nomination worthy. I'll take a wild guess and say supporting if only because it is an ensamble cast. Good Luck to all the future nominees. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the film will get great reviews, great box office and hopefully a slew of Academy Award Nominations for the film.

3. I read the book and thought it was very moving. I was hoping they would make it into a movie!! I am looking forward to this one. Finally, a decent movie coming out of Hollywood. A very rare sight to behold these days. :-)

7. The "pink house" used in this movie was the homeplace of my mother. It was a part of my life for sixty years. Many precious memories took place in that house. How thrilled my sister and I were when we toured the homeplace during the filming of the movie.May this movie project the true love that rang from this house.

9. I love the book and have been using it in my classroom since it came out. My concern with the casting is that the sisters are so young and Ms. Hudson is so thin. Part of the beauty of the book was the inner beauty of the women which drew both Lilly and her mother to them. Rosealeen was a field hand turned nanny. She was not sophisticated or beautiful, or young as Ms. Hudson obviously is. I will definately see the movie (in fact I can't wait). But, I fear when I show it to my class and ask them to compare and contrast the movie with the book, there will be far more contrasts. I hope not.

10. I want to watch Dakota Fanning - she is the most ENCHANTING young actress on the screen. Her personality will make it a winner.
