Landon Brown: Bobby Brown's Son Talks Whitney, Lindsay, National Enquirer & more

Landon Brown

The day I met Bobby Brown's firstborn Landon Brown for our interview at the Mediterranean restaurant Cravings on Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles , the 'National Enquirer' hit newsstands with a disparaging story about his stepmother Whitney Houston that included quotes from the 22-year-old aspiring singer.

"It's frustrating. I'm actually pretty frustrated," he shrugged after I showed him the article.

"I told him before the interview started that there was no way I would tell him anything negative about my family. Because they are still openly supportive of my career. For me to put people down who are being openly supportive of my music career would be like spitting in their face."

Landon thumbs through the article some more and shakes his head.

Landon Brown reads the National Enquirer article

"He took everything that I said to him and then fabricated half of it," he vented.

The controversial article's headline reads: 'Stepson: Life with Whitney Houston Was A Nightmare.' The feature goes on to question Whitney's parenting skills, claims she kept him away from his sister, Bobbi Kristina and alleges physical abuse on behalf Whitney's mother, Cissy Houston.

"This is like high school gossip," Landon lamented upon reading it.

"You come to me and ask me if I could tell you about my childhood. A lot of people will sit and listen to how my childhood went only because I was always aggravated by my classmates and my peers because of the rumors on television," he continued.

"Just like anybody's family that's on television for some negative s-t, you're going to be harassed about that negative s--t," he added. "Unfortunately for me, my parents Whitney Houston at Clive Davis's Pre-Grammy Dinnerwere being harassed about drug abuse. Being that I'm in this predominantly white town where I'm trying to be a track star, I'm trying to do this and that, the only thing people could focus on was that I was in the news. They want to know the juiciness. They want to know the dirt."

So did he feel misled by the writer?

"I never understood exactly how these people worked," he replied, before adding: "You quoted me on some stuff that I didn't say and say I said it! He wanted me to talk to him about drugs in this [article]. There's no way you can get me to talk about somebody else's business. I'll talk to you about my life."

So did Whitney, who filed for divorce from Bobby in Oct. 2006, really attempt to keep Bobbi Kristina away from Landon when he was a child?

"She never directly did anything," he explained. "She did nothing. She never did me foul. She didn't keep me away from my sister. There were people around her that didn't want me so close to Kristi. But it wasn't Whitney and it wasn't my father. That's my damn sister. Whitney showed me love. It was her assistants and staff that didn't."

Bobby Brown greats Landon backstage at 'Rock The Cradle'And what about the claims that she wouldn't allow you to sleep in the main house of her Mendham, New Jersey estate?

"I can't say that's false," he conceded. "She didn't really let me stay in the main house. Yes, that's true. I guess there's no excuse for her not letting me stay in the main house, even though there is like three houses on the property."

Despite that, Landon still has love for the 'Greatest Love of All' singer.

"Whitney was a great mom," he continued. "She was a really good mom. The only thing I can actually say about this is that it was the stepmother/stepson relationship. Me and her ain't get along at first, because me and her actually had to live together. But this is now a woman who shows me love every time she gets a chance. I still call her my stepmother."

Lindsay LohanDid Cissy Houston really sock you in the face for dancing at one of Whitney's concerts when you were 11-years-old?

"Oh man. Grandma Cissy is real nice. But, you know, she got me. I'm sorry Grandma Cissy. I love Grandma Cissy, but she did slap me in my face for jamming," he confessed.

The 'National Enquirer' also included a sidebar feature that implied that Landon bedded Lindsay Lohan in a 'Stop-&-Go Hookup.' The story said that the star of MTV's 'Rock the Cradle' met the trouble-prone starlet at a party at Sunset Gower Studios and she followed him to the bathroom and they "got together."

"I met her at a club. The club was on a movie lot. I was going to the bathroom when I met her. They are just trying to play off Lindsay Lohan right now," Landon clarified.

"This is wild. This is off the wall," he laughed, after seeing how the writer depicted the encounter. "My father had a concert going on. The club was on the lot. She was on the lot filming something I think. I wasn't dating Lindsay Lohan on the low."

Landon Brown performs on 'Rock The Cradle'So did he meet Lindsay and have sex with her?

"Nah man, I aint have sex with Lindsay Lohan. And I aint tell him I had sex with Lindsay Lohan either. Word is bond, if I slept with Lindsay Lohan, I would still be sleeping with Lindsay Lohan right now," he exclaimed.

Though there was no Lindsay love connection, Landon did confess that he does have a crush on another industry girl.

"I like Rev. Run's daughter. I don't know who Angela Simmons is dating right now, but I've been trying to take her out for the longest," he shared.

Though Landon's childhood wasn't much like the family life depicted on 'Run's House,' he does credit his mother Melika Williams and his stepfather, actor Carl Anthony Payne ('Martin') for trying to keep things normal.

"I love my stepfather. He helped raise me mostly. He's most of how I was raised. Carl Payne is a great dude. Me and him went through the same things me and Carl Anthony Payne at the Black Enterprise Oscar PartyWhitney went through. The whole stepson/stepfather thing. I just had a weird time at one point and time, with Whitney and Carl and the stepparent thing," he said.

There's one piece of advice from his stepfather that Landon regrets dismissing.

"He told me not to talk to them at all," he said about the National Enquirer. "He told me, 'No matter what you say to them, they're going to make everything negative.' He told me not to do it. He was right though!"

During his stint on 'Rock The Cradle,' Landon was open about struggling with the absence of his biological father when he was a child. Now that he's an adult, the two have grown closer.

Landon Brown on the red carpet with his father Bobby Brown"Yeah, it's a lot different," he said about his relationship with Bobby. "When I was younger and my father would take us out, we'd have a great time. But still, that was sporadic. Now it's like we're grown and we can go party together as adults. That s-t is fun! All you can do is be a big kid when you party with my father."

And Landon has a short fuse when it comes to his dad. He had to be calmed down while attending Al B. Sure's 40th birthday party recently upon realizing that comedian Bill Bellamy was in attendance.

"I don't like Bill Bellamy and I don't care who knows it," Landon said emphatically. "My mother and my manager would tell me not to say anything, but I don't give a damn right now. I don't like him. I was going to punch that [N-Word]."

He continued: "First thing was I was in a play. The first play I had ever did in my life with my father Carl. My people was sitting next to him and he was sitting down there talking: 'Who the hell is this [N-Word]? Why is he up there? Landon Brown arrives at Al B. Sure's partyDoes anyone even know who he is?' Are you heckling me at my own show? You came to watch a play with some new people in it and you decide to heckle me. He's lucky I didn't see it because I probably would have ruined the play and jumped off the stage and punched him in his throat. So I calmed down and decided to leave him alone."

That wasn't Landon's last run-in with Bill. Apparently the comic came to see Bobby perform at Stevie's Creole Cafe & Bar in Encino, Calif. and things took a turn for the worst.

"He came to my father's performance at Stevie's. He picks up a bread basket, takes the bread out of the basket, takes the napkin out and walks around for a collection. He walks around and takes up a collection and then gives it to my father," he said angrily.

"It didn't have to be Bill Bellamy! I could have been any man," he said, adding, "any of my family, I hold them very highly. There's no way you are going toBill Bellamy disrespect my father like that and I'm not going to whip your ass. I should have whipped his ass right then and there, but my grandfather was there and he wanted to whip his ass too. You just don't do that. You don't disrespect at somebody's show. And I hold a grudge!"

Landon also isn't happy with former video vixen Karrine "Superhead" Steffans either. Once an acquaintance of his father's, Steffans spoke contemptuously about the 'My Prerogative' singer in her last book, 'The Vixen Diaries.'

"The first time I met Karrine, she was laying in someone's bed naked and she was like, 'who is this?' He told her who I was and she said I was sexy and what not. I was like, 'Cool, this is kind of awkward.' You just got out of the bed with my [N-word] and you gonna tell me I'm sexy," he revealed.

"Automatically I know what kind of girl you are," he continued. "She's a real funny cat. We chilled a few times and she cooked for us. I can't even knock her and say she's a bad person. She has a good sense of humor. I don't knock you for liking sex and for liking to give head. Do what you do and more power to you! But when you write a book and you put my father in it, you've crossed the line," he said.

Landon performs on 'Rock The Cradle'Though his father and stepmother have been mainstays in the tabloids, Landon got his own crash course in tabloid journalism via the 'National Enquirer.'

"I didn't see that going down like that," he said, before adding: "But I'm not famous man. I was just on 'Rock the Cradle.'"

Landon never ordered lunch that day because the tabloid story made him "lose his appetite."

But when we finally wrapped, he rolled up the newspaper, vowed to add the 'National Enquirer' writer to his "s-t list" with Bill Bellamy and said he was off to place a call to Whitney.

1. Hello Landon....How you doin Bae!!..I feel his realness and I think that he is very intellegent.
I wish nothing but endless blessings for him and his family.

2. Landon sounds like a kid in this article. he spews out little rants amd raves. He comes off as immature and trying to make up for going after the money with the National Enquirer. Since he's been a part of the "industry" all his life, his stupid ass should have been aware of Tabloid journalism. With as many homeless people in America, to hear him bitch about having to stay in the "guest house" of a mansion instead of the main house, makes him come off as spoiled and greedy. What was missing in the guest house? Were there rats and roaches? I'd bet not. You sound real stupid Landon. Did you even graduate high school? What have you done other than bitch about what other people did to you? Man up punk!!!

Rejina at 12:22PM on Jun 13th 2008

3. If nothing else, your song has the right name to describe your attitude and singing skills.... "So Weak"!!!

Rejina at 12:24PM on Jun 13th 2008

4. Your step-dad was right...never ever talk to the Enquirer or any of those trash mags. Thank you Jawn for helping Landon tell his story accurately!

Adgurl at 1:58PM on Jun 13th 2008

5. Landon's singing voice is "Tired" and "So,So,Weak", just like the title of his song "So, Weak"! Landon,is not cut out to be a singer. I seen him on one talent star TV show and I couldn't believe what I was hearing? What he need to do instead of getting a vocal coach and pursuing a career in music, is to seek another PROFESSION! Landon, will never be like Bobby! He's cute but, in the article, he sounds so immature. I guess like, father and son?

"Kee Kee 4U" at 7:00PM on Jun 13th 2008

6. I think he sounds alittle like his dad, you can hear "Bobby" in his voice. And I believe that within time, and more experience, Landon will develop into a much better singer, but that's just my opinion ;-)

I like the song as well.

Cheryl at 10:53PM on Jun 13th 2008

7. He is full of mess. I hate when untrained entertainers tell all their business and then get mad at the writer for printing it. Mary J used to do this same mess. Get drunk with a report, run her mouth and then want to back track when the article comes out. This guy tells name drops girls who he has slept with like Lohan-in order to promote his career so why should we think that he wouldnt drop personal issues that he has with Whitney Houston to get his name more out there? I know he said all of things and I can tell a fake article from something real and that article was real-it wasnt even overly done enough for it to be a lie.

Jo Jo at 2:16PM on Jun 16th 2008

8. Bobby Brown's family must be on speed dial with the Enquirer. Just a month or so ago, an aunt was gave an interview about Bobbi Kristina's alleged attempted suicide. Then we all know about the pictures Bobby's sister took and sold to the Enquirer. This behavior by the Brown family proves how much they were living off of Whitney's money. As long as everyone benefitted, no one had anything to say to the tabloids.

tamla at 7:47PM on Jun 16th 2008

9. That is not Ralph Tresvant. How can you forget Rickey Bell. His name is Rickey Bell

Reka at 7:39AM on Jun 17th 2008

10. I have too agree with tamla, as long as everyone was benefitting off Whitney's money everyone was very happy with no thing to say. Now that the well has run dry, there are all types of stories coming out about their lives, I feel sorry for anyone is an artist, they have no real live. They have so many people to take care of,and most of the time they are caring for someone who needs to find their "OWN LIFE".He's talked about Whitney , if I'm Not mistaking, but didn't once come out about him and Whitney having Sex or was it again another way to get Money and Fame. For his song "SO Weak" it's So Weak and SO Cheap. If you can sing live it will make it, if not, find another career. P.S. "STOP FIGHTING HIS FATHER's BATTLES" Bobbie is HE'S OWN MAN OR IS HE? It takes a real man to clear he's own name not he's SON.

iris at 7:49AM on Jun 17th 2008

11. I'm with most of the people here. Why talk to the tabloids when you know they're not going to tell your story inacurately? Unless I needed the money! For real though, this guy is not cute! He needs to bulk up in a gym, pick a whole different hair style, reposition his smile and throw out his whole wardrobe! I sure hope his other pictures were not so unflattering! I always heard that the children of singers usually turn actors/actresses. He needs to go that direction.

Lakiesha Payne at 8:17AM on Jun 17th 2008

12. DUMB ASS. HE SAID I WONT SAY ANYTHING NEGATIVE ABOUT HIS FAMILY "Because they are still openly supportive of my career". NOW THATS FUNNY, BECAUSE A REAL BROTHER WOULD HAVE SAID "BECAUSE THATS MY FAMILY AND I LOVE THEM. IF YOU DONT TALK CRAP ABOUT YOUR FAMILY ON TV, MAGAZINES AND NEWSPAPERS THEN DONT ASK ME TO TALK CRAP ABOUT MINE." WE KNOW WHERE THIS IS HEADED. AS LONG AS THEY PUTTIN UP THE DOLLARS FOR HIM TO MAKE HIS OWN DOLLARS,THEN ITS ALL LOVE. BUT LET HIS CAREER FALTER AND SOME BIG TIMER ASK HIM TO WRITE A BOOK ABOUT HIS FAMILY FOR A COOL MILLION AND THIS NEGRO WILL WILL TALK MORE THAN SUPERHEAD ON WELFARE.

AMOS BROWN at 8:57AM on Jun 17th 2008

13. Black people are always putting each other down! I think he has a good voice. At least he's not running the streets doing bad things. He's trying to make something of himself and all everyone is saying is his voice is "weak". Well, that's why there's a thing called voice lessons. Plus, name a male singer out today that has a strong voice. You'll probably come up with about 5 at the most. Keep doing what you're doing Landon and don't listen to the haters! Don't let people knock your hustle!!

honeyluv00 at 12:29PM on Jun 17th 2008

14. This is a VERY pretty song. So beautiful. The guitar accompaniment was perfect for it. It could VERY well be a wedding song, first-dance song, or a new couple's: "HEY, baby, that's our song playing!". A sweet-sweet song --- sung oh, so sweetly! Keep up the good work Landon! And don't you DARE accept the funky energy coming off of your haters. You keep doing YOU, and doin' it WELL. Let them wallow in that ish by their damn selves! Crabs in a barrel. You know how that goes. I hope you have a prosperous career and are able to avoid the troubles and pitfalls that so often come with it. Peace and much love.

Sasha at 12:59PM on Jun 17th 2008

15. I'm not buying Landon's story, because first of all he has been around for 22 years, living in the shadows of his celebrity Dad, Stepmom and Stepdad. I'm sure that over those 22 years he has witnessed the negativity the tabloid published about all celebrities including his parents. He would have to be pretty naive to believe that they would not do the same to him. I think Landon took the money and decided he would face the consequences later. An apology here and there would put things back in his playing field and therefore he will have his cake and eat it too. It's a shame it can't be a man and admit to it. Concerning the Bill Bellamy issue at the his dad's show, that was pretty mean and low of Bill and my words to Bill is to remember that those same people you meet on the up, you will run into when you fall and you will fall fast if you can't have respect for others, even and especially when they are down. That was very disrespectful of Bill, but so is Bobby's book he wrote. So I guess that old saying is true, to get RESPECT, you have to earn it. I hope Landon don't make the same mistakes as his dad did and is still doing. Oh yeah, you go Carl Payne for raising a child that isn't yours and really caring about him as if he is yours. Much love to you, Carl. Landon try to grow into a respectful man don't make those same mistakes your dad did.
