Bobby Brown: The Truth About Usher

Posted Jun 3rd 2008 1:11PM by Brennan Williams

By Brennan Williams, BlackVoices.com

"I've always considered myself 'The King of Stage.' To this very day, I still don't think anyone can get with me on the stage. I own the stage," Bobby Brown confidently proclaims in his new autobiography, 'Being Bobby Brown: The Truth and Nothing But ...'

As previously reported, BlackVoices.com has exclusively obtained an advance copy of the memoir, where Brown also revealed his past relationship with R&B superstar Usher (who he calls his "little mini me").

"I watched one of Usher's shows and he basically did my whole show," the 'My Prerogartive' crooner writes. "It was as if it was me on stage. The thing about it is, I love seeing that. It's a compliment to me as a performer."

The 'former New Edition singer totally understands Usher's reason for emulating his stage performance, to a point in which he once took elements of Prince, Michael Jackson and James Brown.

"I think you take parts of whoever is the hottest act of that era and you incorporate that into your own style," Brown explained. "It's just like taking buttermilk, eggs and corn meal, you whip it up bake it and you have cornbread."

It's quite obvious he gave that same advice to a young Usher, who he said he once personally trained.

However, what many people don't know about the two is the truth to their alleged scuffle that took place at a past birthday party for Usher.

"When I walked into the party I ran into Usher and we immediately gave each other a hug," he explained. "While he was holding me, he turned to the side and kinda put my neck in a playful choke hold and started squeezing me."

It was apparent Usher didn't want to be 'On His Own.'

"I tried to tell him that I couldn't breathe but he couldn't hear me because the music was loud. It didn't help that he was drunk. I was yelling, 'yo, yo, yo let me go! I can't breathe!' He was excited to see me and he was just expressing himself with this gesture. He was so drunk he didn't realize what he was doing."

Following various attempts of telling Usher to let go, Brown had no other choice but to react with aggressive force.

"I picked him up and held him over the DJ booth which had a nice little drop down below."

Damn!

"When I did this, I guess his body guards felt like I was threatening his life so they came to his rescue. They came and pulled us apart which looked like a scuffle to the people around looking on."

Although the situation got a bit out of hand, Brown confirmed it was nothing more than the media blowing everything out of proportion.

Brown's relationship with Usher is rare, considering he keeps his industry friendships very limited.

"The industry is filled with a bunch of fakeness that I can live without," he said. "I'm going to let them do what they do and I'm going to keep on being Bobby!"

1. Why do people buy these books of lies? The artist dont really sit down and write them. They are written by ghost writers and of course everyone slants these auto-biographies to make themselves look good-they leave out like 50% of their lives.

3. I do think the media take a little things out. That's how they get paid.Look at the the movie Spider-man all three versus.

Robert Solomon at 10:11PM on Jun 3rd 2008

4. OMG, this is just hysterical. He's a legend in his own mind. I can't believe he'd think that Usher stole his show. Who would actually believe that? No one cares about this guy anymore. I don't think anyone has in 15 years. I feel sorry for the guy, there is obviously some mental illness going on upstairs.

5. I feel sorry for Bobby Brown a bit. Like many people in the entertainment industry who start out very young, somehow they end up being misguided. I think Bobby had very bad lows and unlike others he is still alive. I really believe that he really tries to do the right things. If this book is part of his healing process, then it will be truthful and I'm all for it. and will support

6. Letting Bobby think is a tad dangerous. Let him continue to play with his lego building blocks. When he grows up let us know. Grin, I know it won't be happening any time soon or in his lifetime.

7. What a waste of tree. How about using one tree and have it fall on his bigger than life ego. Hmmmm, if a tree falls on a has-been, can we hear it fall???

8. Married to a lesbian drug addict for all those years would screw up any mans mind! Whitney is one freaky little sex machine, and always working both sides of the street, and terribly drugged up in the process.

William Dollar at 7:40AM on Jun 4th 2008

9. Yeah, yeah, it's all Whitney's and Janet's fault you are a loser druggie. Be a man and take responsibility for your own actions, Mr. No-Talent.

Johnny Dollar at 7:41AM on Jun 4th 2008

10. Bobby always thought he was the bigger man in New Edition and when he set out on his own he was ok. I did buy his first album. Usher I never cared for, for he's another one who acts as if he's a big man and in more ways he's bigger than what Bobby Brown would have ever been. So to me, both are idiots. As for the media, they are like sharks. They'll turn any little story into a shark's frenzy.

Vincent at 7:48AM on Jun 4th 2008

11. He's evil.

linda at 7:52AM on Jun 4th 2008

12. ....humm...Bobby who? Who cares about Bobby Brown and his no talent self?

Janet Bell at 7:57AM on Jun 4th 2008

13. I wonder if Bobby Brown injured himself writing that book when he bent over and kissed his own ass like that.
