"I could write a book. Let's just say the system doesn't work. If I were black and I killed somebody black, I'd be out in eight years. If I were black and I killed a white person, I'm doing 25 to life."

-- Hollywood wildchild Michelle Rodriguez commenting on her 17 days spent in jail. (Latina)

1. Well, she's basically right

mimi at 11:10AM on May 30th 2008

2. Yeah, she is right, sad but true

Raymetria at 11:15AM on May 30th 2008

3. FYI she was technically in jail for 18 days, as that's 10% of her 180 sentence and the minimum she had to serve to be able to be released of good behavior at the discretion of the sheriff.

But yes, she is sadly correct.

avA at 9:25PM on May 30th 2008

4. Yes, it is very true. My son was at home last year on June 5th in the basement with some of his so called friends just playing a game of dice, one of the guys pulled a gun and shot him to death over $1. He wanted to shot my baby son because they were trying to get this guy to leave the home. He got 8 years for killing Eric, and 2 years for the gun. We will always be without my precious baby it will soon be a year since this happened. Eric has two beautiful little boys, Kaleb and E.J.

5.
I hate to say it but she is correct.

6. Sickening isn't it.

7. the same rule applies to hispanic on hispanic crime

8. She's right and I don't hate one bit that she said it. I am VERY glad she did.

Shandra at 8:12AM on Jun 1st 2008

9. Years ago I was a survivor of a burtal double murder. My mom and my husband both lost their lives. But today I still believe that he should have recieved the death penalty.Instead he was declared insane. No matter what color, what reason,to take a life you should lose your life.Until penalties for real crimes is treated the same, regardless of race,we are forever lost.

Nina at 8:19AM on Jun 1st 2008

10. Any and everyone in the U.S. knows that this is a racist, hypocritical country. The U.S. only wants freedom, justice and equality for the decendents of white Europeans. To hell with people of color. Unfair sentences is one way to take people of color out of the job market, voting process and from enjoying life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

11. she is right there r so many young black guys saleing drugs and killing people for such foolish reasons and don't make enough time they think it's a joke because when they get out they do the same thing AGAIN take someone life. They should have a higher penalty u kill someone u die also so many families are still asking the question WHY

SANDRA HALL at 9:03AM on Jun 1st 2008

12. She is right. Good experience for her though, doing time. She now knows what NAACP stands for!

13. it really matters what state you live in. my son killed a black person in self defence and he recieved 25 years and he was charged with aggravated manslaughter. ( my son is black )

victoria miller at 10:00AM on Jun 1st 2008

14. She's totally right. Then they feel like we should just accept this and move on like nothing is happening.Their always like Black people need to get over it and stay out of the past but we see this crap everyday! We cant help because we're not stupid enough to not notice it.

OmBossy at 10:20AM on Jun 1st 2008

15. She's right, it's also true that depending on what state you live in, and in some cases what community, certain cases are going to handled differently than others. I've seen people walk free on cases, when there should have been a conviction, and I've seen people convicted and the punishment didn't seem to fit the crime.
