10 Questions with Jennifer Hudson

Posted May 27th 2008 9:09AM by Wilson Morales
Filed under: It's All Reel

Did Jennifer Hudson really win the Oscar or was it her character, Effie from 'Dreamgirls'?

It's been over a year since winning that elusive trophy, and the world wants to know if she really has the chops for both the music and acting scenes; or whether or not it was just a fluke?

Hudson would like for you to know that it wasn't the latter and that she's been working hard on both fronts to show the range of her talent.

Rather than headline a film because of the Academy Award winning status, the former 'American Idol' finalist chose to take a small, but incredible, role in one of the most highly anticipated films of the summer, 'Sex and the City: The Movie.'

Hudson plays Louise, an assistant to Carrie, portrayed by Sarah Jessica Parker.

Besides that, the first single of her upcoming album drops this month, and she recently completed two films, 'Winged Creatures' and 'The Secret Life of Bees.'

BlackVoices.com film blogger Wilson Morales caught up with the buxom beauty during press rounds for the film She chatted about her role, her upcoming album, and next two films with Forest Whitaker, Queen Latifah, and Alicia Keys.

See what she said below...

5. I feel she was added to the movie 2 pull in the
minority viewers, while they were on the tube they
had no one of color on the show as a regular, no
matter how talented the minority race is, some fail
2 embrace the talent, beauty, have they not figure
it out yet, that we are the ones who run Hollywood
now, have the mega power, Will Smith, Queen Latifah
all the rappers, the so very young and talented
now they want to show case JZ and his new bride they
are the same people they were many mooons ago, when
you have the power roll with it, their kids are all
copying the style of dressing, talk, walk, actually
we are first, what was the word ?, the bottom shall
rise, the top will fall, what was last will be first
first will be last, we are smart, we still made it
born with no silver spoon in our mouth, neither did
we steal from the Indians.............(:

7. Am I looking forward to more of Jennifer Hudson in movies and singing. She is a very talented young lady and it has been too long between engagements. Jennifer is very talented and should have been out in a movie sooner. So yea, I'm looking forward to seeing her acting. She is a very good actress. You can't wait too long or you loose your audience. God Bless you Jennifer and good luck.

10. I am so Godly proud of Jennifer and wish her nothing but success and crazy ridiculous favor of God on her life. Stay true to yourself and your God, Jennifer. Please don't ever sell your soul for fame. God's hand is on you girl! You go!

Sherry at 12:02PM on May 28th 2008

11. Well Samas... They did have Blair Underwood for a time. However, I do get your point. If her Dreamgirls perfromance was any indication, I think she will do well with this role. I look forward to the release of her cd as well. (Whitney.. not so much..Char char, The jury is still out). Great to see JHud again.

Essencelove at 12:07PM on May 28th 2008

12. I agree, the only reason they put J.Hud in the movie was to pull in some black movie goers. I mean, I have personally never watched a single episode of the show but, because J.Hud is in the movie, I will mor than likely go see it.

Raymetria at 12:28PM on May 28th 2008

13. I think Jenifer is awsome she knows what she wants in
life.

I wish I could meet her in person just to chat about
girl stuff. I am just a country girl but would love
to experience a live interview with Jen.

I hope she reads this an emails me. I think she has
an amazing voice as well as an amazing face.

Jenifer you rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

tgirl at 1:01PM on May 28th 2008

14. JHUD, YOU BETTER DO YOUR THANG. I AIN'T MAD AT CHA AT ALL. REGUARDLESS IF THEY PUT YOU IN THE MOVIE FOR SOME FLAVOR OR WHAT EVER, YOU ARE STILL MAKING A NAME FOR YOURSELF. IT FEELS GOOD TO SEE A BLACK WOMAN DOING SOMETHING POSITIVE WITH HER LIFE, AND SHOWING FOLKS THAT IT AIN'T ALL ABOUT ACTING GHETTO, AND CARRYING ON. I HAVE BEEN A FAN OF YOURS FROM DAY ONE, AND HAVEN'T STOPPED YET. AS FOR YOUR SINGING CAREER WHEN YOU DROP THIS BOMB ON THE FOLKS THEY WILL HOLD THEIR HEADS AND SCREAM CAUSE YOU ARE SO TALENTED. IF YOU DO GET TO READ THIS CAN YOU SIGN MY EFFIE DREAMGIRL DOLL FOR ME, AND TELL ME HOW CAN I BECOME ONE OF YOUR HOMIES. YOU SEEM SO DOWN TO EARTH AND REAL. NEVER LOSE IT...

Blackkat78 at 1:20PM on May 28th 2008
